I don't in any way think I'm above the site, and I do like it, but I always slip into inactivity (at least, I did at the old site) and go play Skyrim or Morrowind or something like that. I wish I got on more, but I really have no motivation...so are there any ideas? Other than being part of a great roleplay, of course. j

A good roleplay will keep me on. It's just that all the roleplays on any site that I have ever taken part it died out too soon.

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum. I didn't take a very close look at all the categories.

Why would you want to be more active if you clearly aren't interested enough in the site to stay active of your own volition? If you're not very active unless you're in a great roleplay, so what? Go do other things, it's not a big deal.

Honestly, I find myself in a cycle.

For a while, I'll be really into writing. Then I'll write a lot.

Then I will get bored with writing, or maybe bored by waiting. I'll go watch a TV show. Then I get into that (read: obsessed) and I stop writing as much.

Then I'll get bored with TV and start playing a video game. I'll get really into that, especially if it's one with some creative aspect (like Kerbal Space Program), and I won't write as much.

Then I'll get bored of the video game and come back to writing.

I've been in the writing cycle for a while, but TV is threatening again. Video Games haven't been a problem for a while, but we'll see how long that lasts.

It's no one's responsibility to entice you, it's yours. And sometimes there will be days or weeks where nothing is of interest to you but it shouldn't stop you from trying. If you can't find anything you like, make something yourself and stick to it. Or make it a habit to come online even for just ten minutes a day, after two weeks it should become more natural and you should find it easier to stop things you like, rather than just everything you don't. Try something new, break out of your comfort zone, network with people, but all of this is on you. Hopefully something clicks for you and gives you a reason to stick around.

EDIT - The last thing you should do is raise your hand for a RP if you really aren't into it. If you're not, figure out why and fix it. The last thing people want is someone who has a record of bailing (be it on accident or not). So be mindful of others, should you suddenly change your mind about committing to a RP. :3

Got to motivate yourself. If you're applying to join an RP you have just as much responsibility to post as the GM does. If others renege on that commitment the only thing you can do is what the rest of us do: Keep looking for an RP with people who understand the commitment required when joining an RP.

Since the site came back up I have joined three different RP's that have, for the most part, died, so all I do is browse the IntChk and RP pages to look for a new RP to apply for. If that's something you don't want to do, then I recommend sticking to Skyrim, where the only player you have to worry about is yourself.

Really wish we could pin this thread for all the advice here - all these answers sound like things people need to be slapped upside the head with once in a while.

Take a longboat with 20 of your finest men, head to where the sun sets. There you will find a village.

Write whenever the urge strikes! When your feet find the Guild, there is no obligation to cycle through roleplays and discussionary topics. If you enjoy writing, try creating literary works featuring characters from your role-plays or of your own creation, and put them up in that subforum I forgot the name of. Some enjoy 1x1 as it sits nicely in the niche between, offering mixed aspects of roleplay and independent writing. I know that when I play Skyrim instead of doing what I said I'd do, I end up writing a craptonne of one-shots, what if's, battle scenes, journal entries, creature concepts, and stuff. Not everyone's cup of tea, but it's on the menu.

Edit: *and put them up in the The Gallery.

On a serious note, try to get a few of your RP friends to nag you. This worked pretty dam well for me when I was lagging behind a fair bit.
