Basic InformationName: Cassidy Lynn Daniels
Nickname/Alias/Etc:Misere
Gender: Female
Age: 17
Height: 5'5
Weight: 110
Type: New Student
AppearanceHair Color:Black, with a streak of purple
Eye Color:One blue, one green. The right one's blue, the left one's green. No, wait, they're both green. Hold up, both blue. Huh. Maybe she's switching out contacts or something.
Ethnicity:Caucasian, of Eastern Europe descent.
Physical Appearance:Cassidyās slender. Her arms, legs, and torso are all skinny, albeit this is normally masked a bit by her ensemble. Sheās visibly quirky, a mischievous and mysterious smile almost constantly tugging at the ends of her thin pink lips. Cassidy normally stands upright, solid posture with a smooth, flowing gait. She moves like sheās floating, sounding as if sheās tiptoeing even in a full sprint. Cassidyās voice matches her gait, as a matter of fact: thereās a faint hint of a Southern drawl to her words, but theyāre otherwise sounding as if sheād practiced her off-the-cuff remarks in the mirror for hours before saying them. She has the voice of a storyteller or orator-she talks and you just kinda naturally listen, because her voice is easy on the ears.
Cassidyās eyes. Hoo boy. Iām sure your first thought, upon seeing āone blue, one greenā was that sheās a Mary Sue. Well, thatās not quite true. Sheās like the mother of all Mary Sues. No, but really, Cassidyās eyes seem to change in color in-between blinks at times, or in-between appearances. This phenomenaās subtle, and given that Cassidy likes to wear glasses, masks, etc, rather frequently, this effect often goes unnoticed. Especially as itās never an outright change, from neon green to sky blue. Rather, she skips around between the shades in-between.
Cassidyās wasnāt blessed with the hourglass figure that beauty magazines stress as the ideal form. Thereās a slight curve from her modest chest to her skinny waist, but, well, to put it crudely, Sir Mix-A-Lotās anaconda wouldnāt want none. Her face is almost diamond shape, with a rounded chin and a mess of hair concealing this trait a bit. Her hair is something that Cassidy loves to play with and mix up: frequently, she goes for the āhair draped over one eyeā look, styling her bangs down and at an angle to cover one eye or the other. Her hairās fairly short, but long enough to pull off stunts such as this. I donāt know enough about womenās hairstyles to go into much more depth here.
Attire: S-to-the-tylish. Ya dig? Cassidy enjoys suits. These are normally purple or blue, with a collar tie thatās typically a little askew or a teensy bit too loose, tucked underneath the vest. Yeah Iām fucking up all these terms I donāt wear suits that often. Completing the ensemble is typically an inverness coat and a top hat. While her style may be a century and a half late, you canāt say itās not there. Her clothing is eerily clean. Occasionally, depending on the look sheās going for, sheāll carry her sheath on her belt, but itās usually empty. On her left cheek is a small, diagonal dueling scar. The angle at which itās positioned gives her an appearance of having an almost perpetual upturned grin, like sheās constantly (playfully) smirking at some joke sheās listening to.
PersonalityInnate & Outward Personality:Cassidy Lynn is the one who, as a child, took those stories about the fox outwitting the lion a little too seriously. Sheās a trickster, a schemer, a devious planner and, above all else, someone with a great sense of humor. Cassidy lives for the thrills of life, the adrenaline rushes and needless risks. Sheās very clever-the sort of clever that could never find the time to do homework but always found time to think of silly questions. Cassidy loves a good challenge, a bet, or a mystery of any sort: problem solving, gambling, and adventuring all hold equal thrill to her. Cassidyās the sort whoād want to fuck in the middle of a park with no concealment, at midnight, just for the risk of it. Sheās got a bit of an impulsive streak, and while her from-the-seat-of-her-pants planning style often compensates for it, she can often find herself screwing herself over with dumb decisions or rash choices. Cassidyās also one whoās hard to rattle. She has a very Zen philosophy on life, and merely seeks to have fun. Itās tough to get her riled up or concerned over too much-she has too much fun. For Cassidy, thereās a joke to be found anywhere, a riddle to be sifted through in even the bleakest tragedies. This can often alienate some, as sheās the sort to be giggling at a funeral or something similar. Sheās kind, but not goes-out-of-her-way kind. Cassidy doesnāt get caught up very often in humanitarian causes and whatnot, but sheāll gladly do a performance-if it happens to help someone out, all the better, but sheās not out to save the world. Cassidy has a remarkable sense of humor and finds pranks or insults directed towards her more amusing than anything. Sheās a big fan of pranks and general mischievousness and will likely, if left to her own devices, find some way to mildly annoy someone. = She enjoys being thought of as an enigma, keeping her motives, capabilities, and personal life private. A skilled liar, Cassidy will often fabricate different backstories for herself, different names, wildly inaccurate reasons for whatever sheās doing. Cassidyās in it for the sheer fun of it. She's one for making friends and striking up conversation-she's pretty self-confident, and doesn't let social stigmas or pressures bother her. Cassidy tends to stick out for this reason, but amongst a school of mutants, who doesn't? A perpetual flirt and constant tease, Cassidy never seems to really settle down with anyone but seems to hit on men and women indiscriminately. What sexuality she actually is, well, that's anybody's guess-just like most things with Cassidy. She's the sort of person who will die unhappy because she wasn't able to try everything-Cassidy loves mysteries, discovieres. She'll ask a person point-blank, deeply personal questions, just to see what they'll say. She wants to travel everywhere and do everything. To an extent, this is escapism-Cassidy isn't good at handling things once they get too close, emotionally, and her constant jokes are a defense mechanism of sorts. For whatever reason, Cassidy isn't able to roll with the punches that actually matter to her. Her solution, then, is to never truly get in the ring-she'd rather sit behind the ropes and heckle.
Hobbies/Interests:She loves solving puzzles, reading, movies, books, and work involving her hands or anything in front of a crowd. Cassidy likes dancing, magic tricks, exploring and wandering. She picks up new instruments and never masters them, starts books and never finishes them, and kisses and never fin-no I'm not going there.
Skills/Talents: An excellent improviser, Cassidyā extraordinarily quick on her feet and quick-witted. Sheās an excellent liar, has a wonderful poker face, and has plenty of experience staying cool under pressure from years of performing. Cassidyās also good at feeling out a crowd-or individuals-and adjusting her act as necessary to get the best results. Her power lends itself towards anything dexterity-based, and sheās also very good at detecting scams and lies, given her own experience with them. Cassidyās also a superb fencer, and coupled with her reflexes, one of her combat-ready gifts is being able to lunge and parry her skinny little ass off.
Prized Possession:Her fencing sword or her entire ensemble. Her fencing sword, with letters running down the blade, reads "The Last Trick".
Quote(s): Instead of a quote, the can't-help-myself grin of someone who's pranked you good should go here.
History/Bio:I really hate these, and Cassidy will invariably create new ones to suit herself, so Imma ask to exempt this.
Family: Just like the backstory, Cass will create new cousins, mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers whenever it's convenient.
RelationshipsAbilitiesPower Class:Other
Power: Cassidy Lynn is capable of warping reality. Now, this power is obviously very, very powerful, so Iām going to go ahead and assuage your fears and what its limitations are.
First and foremost, think of reality as having inertia. Time and space have momentum. The chair you are sitting in will stay a chair until something with sufficient force comes along and fucks it up sufficiently to make it not a chair. Thatās physics, bitches. Subsequently, Cassidy has to exert a tremendous amount of energy to cause even minor changes in how something works. And, something something uncertainty principle something something Schrodingerās cat something something, sheās able to achieve this more easily if thereās no direct observation.
Let me rephrase that to assuage the totally understandable doubts about this power: Cassidy is only capable of minor alterations, and she's only capable of doing those easily whenever no one is watching.
Sleight of hand. Misdirection. Confusion. This is how Cassidy operates. Where she is weak, she feigns strength. No oneās quite sure of what she can do-if sheās a metahuman or merely a very skilled human magician. Even some of the NEST agents and Academy people have been fooled-she's done her best to make sure there are wildly differing accounts of what she is capable of and what she can do. This is Cassidy's best skill, her one true, totally human power: she's got an intuitive understanding for how to play mind games, and runs the world like the Phantom runs the Opera Populaire.
In other words, Cassidy Lynn wonāt be doing anything very drastic. Doing so would nearly cripple her. Reality also wants to return to normal: so if she changes something, itās likely to change back to normal when she stops focusing on it. Distracting Cassidy or incapacitating her is a good way to fuck up her trickery. She does, however, have several practiced, got-āem-down-cold forms of space-time warping that she can do easily and effectively. They are as follows.
Teleportation. Cassidyās not Nightcrawler. Sheās not poofing off half a mile away, or even doing chains of teleportation to make her impossible to hit. Rather, Cassidy employs a very direct, very short form of teleportation. Again, this is made easier if sheās not being directly observed. She only bends things a bit-she darts around a corner, and when you turn to follow, sheās halfway down the hall. She closes a door behind her, and when you barge in to follow, sheās back out in the hall. Small nudges. Nothing drastic. Anything beyond ten feet is outside of her capabilities. Once again, this is pretty much impossible for her to do if someone is directly observing her-Cassidy would have to kill the lights, and even then she'd be lucky to make it more than a few feet. It'd be pretty taxing. Successive teleporting is difficult, and attempting to use it combatively would be equally tricky.
Conjuration. From nothing, something. This is primarily done in the form of rabbits from hats and doves from hats. Really, Cassidy doesnāt do too much else with this, although sheāll occasionally conjure up very minor things. Again, this takes significant practice and is quite the strain, even for small objects. Cassidy has rabbits and doves down cold, however. She canāt command them, but she can produce a decent number of the latter quickly. They normally last for a minute or so before fading away into nothingness (once again, reality wants to stay reality, and Cassidy Lynn Daniels isn't able to change much) unless she actively focuses on it. Conjurationās tricky, and itās hard to make the objects last. The exception is if sheās conjuring something and swapping it out so to speak. For example, Cassidyās playing poker, and she has four 2ās. She can change those to four aces with ease because swapping out playing cards is nothing. Swapping out those playing cards with hammerhead sharks would be impossible and also ruin Tuesday Poker Night.
Sleight of hand. Unless anyone else claims it, Iām marking Cassidy as the top dog in terms of reflexes and grace. Her ability allows her to perceive reality more naturally, and as such she can see cause and effect coming a little more easily. This is nothing so drastic as precognition-but rather, once something has happened, she knows about it more quickly. Much more quickly. Cassidyās hand-eye coordination and dexterity are superb. Sheās quite sneaky. No drawback here-this is Cassidyās one solid, combat-ready power. She can dodge and dart around like a jackrabbit on speed because she's not capable of much else.
Cards. Cassidyās a beast with playing cards, both in terms of card tricks, card games, and throwing cards. While most people canāt throw cards accurately, and basically no one can use cards as a weapon, Cassidyās capable of doing so. Her power lets her put a bit of oomph into her throws, and her reflexes let her throw them and place them accurately. She can toss a playing card and have it hit with the force of a medium-speed fastball. Nothing that would kill someone, or even come close, but she can pepper her enemies with painful strikes to buy herself time to get away. Playing cards are easily deflected by strong breezes or anyone whoās not a hemophiliac.
Pocket dimensions. Cassidyās capable of tucking objects away into a hyperspace of sorts, and retrieving them. This process takes energy relative to the size of the object, so trying to disappear an entire car would be next to impossible. But someoneās car keys? Well, that wouldnāt be anything at all.(ā Perhaps check under the cushions, Iām sure they fell down thereā¦ā) Strong blows can disorient Cassidy and open up the pockets, resulting in (comically) things seeming to fall out of nowhere around her. Generally, this is used for very small things to be smuggled-or, say, she flips a coin in the air, and poof, it's gone, and legitimately reappears in the other hand.
Now, the weaknesses I've already covered somewhat but I'll reiterate: Cassidy can actually accomplish very little. These powers sound far more drastic than they truly are-her power relies on sleight of hand and misdirection-just like any good stage magician, she makes you think she's capable of so much more than she truly is. She's smoke and mirrors. Any significant application of her power is rather taxing, an given Cassidy's physique, she's not built for endurance or a lot of strenuous activity. In an adrenaline rush, everything on the line, she could probably seriously pull off one major application of her power, and that would knock her out of the running for a while.
Limits:Primarily, her own lack of endurane and stamina. Additionally, Cassidy seems self-restrained to the trickster motif-she really has no use for anything else, as she actively tries to make it seem like she's either the world's worst metahuman or the world's best metahuman. There is some actual debate amongst NEST officials, Academy supervisors, etc, as to whether or not she actually has supernatural abilities, or if she's just managed to bullshit everyone thus far.
Weaknesses/Drawbacks: Her extreme lack of endurance and the very taxing nature of powers that aren't the specific usages mentioned above, or more convoluted or dramatic applications of her abilities. She's had to practice those tricks a thousand times to get them down cold. Additionally, being directly seen increases the pressure of what she has to do, so it's a lot easier when no one's watching-or when they're focusing on something else.
Other: Could kick Houdini's ass/is currently running through the six with her woes. She generally dresses nicely, always has a deck of cards on her. She's familiar with a lot of magician's stuff, and can do a wide range of mundane tricks. No stranger to drinking or gambling.
