I was kind 'o wondering, can we PM you our character's background, skillset and personality instead? I tend to fInd that many Roleplays don't really see character interaction at a realistic level because the writers already know them through the pRofIles?

However, without having them on display might prompt more such posts. Like how in real lIfe we would ask such questions.

You can send me anything you'd like. Unfortunately, I will have to ask that everyone submit a cs to the character tab once the OOC is created. Once the initial introductions are over and the story is flowing, it's just best to have a key as to the kind of characters we are dealing with. I feel like it aids the writing process, making up for whatever it takes away from immersion with accessibility and familiarity.

@The New Yorker That's for sure. I agree that a character profIle is vital, I was just asking If we could hide the things no one would know at fIrst glance except through our PMs to you.

I suppose it's fine as long as it's not anything important.

@The New Yorker It's not. My character won't be like walking into the dungeon halfway then turn around and be like I AM THE DRAGOBN!

It's just the background and personality things that he won't say. Human things.

That's sort of the point. We need to know the things he won't say. Even if it isn't reflected in the conversations you have with others, background and personality traits bleed into everything else. I don't see why you think it's okay for you to omit entire sections of the CS, when others can't. Or, at least, shouldn't.

I had really never only asked foR myself, I was suggesting a concept all could use and I do mean all. How did you ever conclude that I wanted any sort of privilledge at all? There is nothing I've ever said pointing to that. What privilledge would it be anyway? It's a story, not a competitive game. The only advantage would be more options to plot hooks and mystery and that, at least in my opinion, is benefIcial to all. It's not like you won't know either.

It not being shown on a public character sheet doesn't mean it doesn't exist, I don't see how just hiding those things will break the whole game or character like you suggested - it will be pmed and it's things other characters won't readily know. I simply try to avoid the whole "Hey, you're a pagan!“"What¿ no I'm not!“ “You are! I also know you lived in the woods east of here and have two crossbows hidden but no experience with them! I can tell!" While that character has positively no bloody way of knowing that this character is a pagan, except foR his writer reading the other's character profIle.

That or much worse, he doesn't react to appropriately when he sees that christian character drawing a star and circle because to his writer, it's nothing suprising - when it actually is VERY suprising.

But, I don't think I want to continue the dIscussion any further. Your reaction has clarIfIed your take on the matter, at least the second one. Though I'd like to clear your misunderstandings, I might think it prudent to let the matter rest.

It seems like everything single thing about each character will be common knowledge to all then.

Do you mean... metagaming? From my experience, people don't really use knowledge derived from your sheet unless its something like appearance. At least, I've never seen someone go 'I KNOW YOU'RE ACTUALLY A WALRUS IN DISGUISE. I ROLLED A 20."

Hah. Well, maybe the experience is something you've yet to meet. But it is there lurking round the corner, be sure of it.

It may be in more trivial ways too, like characters being too trusting or untrusting because their background is as plain as day. The gun holding, shaky drug addict that cusses is somehow the most popular kid at fIrst sight because it's written in his background that he's a Good guy, soMeHow.

Things like that, it might be that I write realistically so I notice these things and there is nothing good that I see bout them. But perhaps there are those who encourage it or really don't care, I don't like it and I don't want to have to tolerate it. It's the lack of depth or the fact that I don't really fInd characters interesting after they are put on dIsplay like that, given I know how they're supposedly going to react in every situation, that I fInd is one of the Reasons character interaction is so ...handicapped in many roleplays.

Having said that and seeing so many 'Likes' to your post, I guess no one would really agree or understand to my logic. I believe that the most I will achieve with the conclusion of this debate is perhaps a moment's ponder on your part, then nothing more.

I would definitely be interested in this. I'll get to work on a CS, I'm thinking a nobleman character. Maybe a naval officer of some kind.

Sorry for the double post but I've got a character sheet pretty much put together. This is the first draft so I may revisit certain parts and change it up.
