[OOC] A Colder War

A Different '78:
The Vietnam War ended in 1973 to an anonymously deployed bacterial weapon, killing most life in the country including thousands of U.S. soldiers and Soviet interests. The devastation was shocking to both sides, and nuclear war seemed unavoidable -- until a breakthrough in anti-nuclear weaponry led to the creation of the Anti Ballistic Missile System in Britain, which was quickly stolen and implemented around the world.

The ABMS, while initially a miracle, has given both sides reason to expand the development of alternate weapons for the war that both sides are set on avoiding; by way of totally eliminating the other side without having to resort to a costly conventional war. Little by little the ethical restrictions on weapon research are chipped away, and each day the world inches closer to devastation.

Spies are the big players in this costly game, fighting an endless tug-of-war of sabotage and espionage -- and each year they're being outfitted with more advanced gadgets to aid in their invisible war.

The Factions

The United States: The U.S. has become withdrawn and xenophobic over the years, which is reflected as they barely maintain formal relations with other nations. Expect U.S. spies to be extremely patriotic; and don't expect them to hesitate if you're in front of the barrel of their gun.

The Soviet Union: The Union has begun to splinter, numerous of dissidents are rising within their ranks and brutal policies have been enacted to keep them in line. Expect Soviet agents to be de-sensitized to this line of work, the patriots are becoming disillusioned by their own country and many cope through emotional detachment.

Britain: Cameras and police line every street of Britain now, as they're unwilling to let the mistake of the stolen ABMS plans repeat itself. Despite a decrease in personal freedom, the standard of living has generally increased and their economic troubles have mostly disappeared. Expect British spies to be charismatic and cunning; many have a strong sense of personal freedom and their job allows them to work with little restriction.

Character Sheet

Name: Your characters name or alias.

Faction: What faction your spy works for, if any, and how devoted they are to it.

Appearance: Spies tend to look as average as possible, but many have identifying marks or are unusually handsome or ugly.

Background: Be vague here, things that the other agents would be able to tell from your mannerisms or skills.

Skills: Be they violent or diplomatic, technical or physical, agents are defined by their skill sets.

Signature Gadget: Every spy has their signature gadget. It could be anything from a special gun, car, or even a seemingly innocuous article of clothing.

A picture is not required but you can include one if you want to.

Remember that despite the grim setting, it is by no means grounded in reality. Get creative with your characters and gadgets!

Name: Meldwick Fraiser

Faction: Britain. He is not necessarily patriotic in nature and is more than willing to try and appeal to both sides, although he tries to keep up with his superiors as well so he isn’t marked rouge.

Appearance: He is the kind of guy who is easily forgotten, with features that are very commonly found. However, he has a very slight smirk always on his face, and a somewhat arrogant attitude.

Background: Having joined the “business” 10 or so years ago, he is known for having stolen several designs and plans as well as assassination missions to take down various corporate figures. Not much else is known nor on record; he often uses an alias and has little paperwork to identify him.

Skills: He is good at charming information out of people and faking as someone he is not; skills that have led him to success in the past. He is very good at making up an identity and sticking with it - he speaks several languages and can imitate accents. He speaks, naturally, fluent english and can communicate in Russian, German, and French.

Signature Gadget: He often carries small chemical mixtures for distractions that cause minor bits of chaos, or once in a while larger specialized ones (ie, poison, a dangerous explosive substance).

I'll put the character in the characters section when I know you like it; nothing like making a wrong assumption :P.

When shall the IC begin?

He's approved! I like the chemical angle you've gone with, does he make them himself?

The IC will begin when everyone who expressed interest posts character, but if we don't hear from them in a couple days we'll just go ahead.

I like to give people the benefit of the doubt, but there is a fairly high drop-out rate around here and people don't tend to tell others when they've lost interest.

Most of them he makes himself, although some of the more potent ones he has to obtain ingredients through "special means", Or he simply steals the whole thing. Once in a while his suporvisors give him a special blend for a mission.

We have one spy who is fairly cautious when it comes from being marked rogue, and one freelance who just does not care.

@ArenaSnow The jist of it that you've been captured by an unknown organization who only insist that they are "On your side", and are planning on using you to their own ends. I'll put up a more detailed introduction as to your situation on Thursday

Name: Alexei Ozerov

Faction: The Soviet Union

Appearance:
Alexei has coarse ginger hair in a meticulously maintained crew cut. The Russian's blue eyes are a weary and lifeless.
Alexei has a generally slim and lean form, his body appearing unremarkable covered in several thick layers of furs or the occasional suit for formal gatherings. However his lean body betrays his true nature as he is covered in sinewy muscle.

Height: 6'0

Background: Alexei came from a family of politicians and was originally enlisted for military service, however with the need for spies due to the threats faced in the modern world alongside the splintering of the Soviet Union, Alexei ended up enlisting in the KGB, being used as an enforcer he often dealt in internal affairs insuring over agents were completing their objectives and routing out moles.

Skills: Through his time with the KGB Alexei has learnt multiple torture techniques alongside a wide range of close quarters combat techniques.
Moreover his political background has given him the ability to blend in with nobility and the upper class.

Signature Gadget: A weapon as brutal as it's wielder, Alexei wields the KGB knife-shoe, the knife extending or retracting with a click of his heels.
