[OOC] MORTAL KOMBAT

Five hundred years ago, Earthrealm was first threatened by the forces of Outworld. Outworld's ruler, the tyrannical Emperor Shao Kahn, expanded his empire by conquering countless realms and merging them with his own. Earthrealm had become the Emperor's next target, and we were hopelessly outmatched. With the balance of power so overwhelmingly in favor of Outworld, the Elder Gods intervened in order to give us a fighting chance...and the Mortal Kombat Tournament was born. This Tournament, held once every generation, pits Outworld's mightiest warriors against the chosen defenders of Earthrealm. Only be securing ten straight victories in Mortal Kombat can Outworld absorb our realm.

After nine consecutive losses to Outworld, Earthrealm’s back was against the wall. For half a millennium, the Tournament had been dominated by Outworld’s Champion, Prince Goro, who won the inaugural Tournament by brutally murdering the Great Kung Lao. Earthrealm’s last hope was Liu Kang, a descendant of the Great Kung Lao, seeking to avenge his ancestor’s death at Goro’s hands. Liu Kang slayed Goro, and defeated the evil sorcerer Shang Tsung to become the new Champion of Mortal Kombat. Earthrealm was saved...or so it seemed.

Enraged by Liu Kang’s victory, and the prospect of having to wait another five hundred years to seize Earthrealm, Shao Kahn defied the Elder Gods by sending his armies across the border between realms, launching an invasion of Earthrealm in spite of Outworld’s loss in Mortal Kombat. However, while Shao Kahn’s minions were able to attack Earthrealm, the Emperor himself was unable to cross the threshold. His devious advisor, Shang Tsung, hatched a plan to turn the tables in favor of Outworld once more.

Shang Tsung went to Earthrealm and abducted Sonya Blade, one of the brave heroes that had fought against Outworld in the Mortal Kombat Tournament. With Sonya held hostage, and Shao Kahn’s armies laying waste to innocents, I was forced to agree to Shang Tsung’s terms for a new Tournament, a Tournament to be held in Outworld. If we are defeated, Outworld will absorb Earthrealm and we shall be enslaved by Shao Kahn. But if Earthrealm is victorious, Shao Kahn will abandon his claim to it forever and his armies will never again be allowed to enter our world.

I am Raiden, God of Thunder and Protector of Earthrealm, and the agents of darkness have forced my hand. Once again, Earthrealm’s heroes must do battle for the fate of our world. Once again, we must fight...in MORTAL KOMBAT!

THE RULES

Greetings fellow kombatants, and welcome to the Mortal Kombat RP. This is basically meant to be a reimagining of the MK saga, beginning after the events of the original game. In this RP you are allowed to play as one of the klassic kharacters from the MK franchise, or you can kreate a new character of your own. Keep in mind though, if you decide to kreate a new kharacter, make sure that it’s a kharacter that will easily fit into the mythos. It shouldn’t be too hard, the MK roster consists of monks, ninjas, cyborgs, demons, sorcerers, vampires, basically anything and everything you can imagine.

The rules for this RP as the same as pretty much every other RP out there. Use proper spelling and grammar. Respect your fellow players and don’t step on their toes. At the end of the day, MK is pretty silly so try not to take things too seriously. If you have any issues, be civil about it. Don’t be a dick or I’ll finish you. Metaphorically speaking of kourse.

KHARACTER SHEET

Name:

Homeworld: Your realm of origin. Earthrealm, Outworld, Netherrealm, etc.

Appearance: If it’s an established kharacter, just use a picture from MK9 or MKX. If it’s an original kreation you can include either a picture or description. No anime/maga pictures though. This is MK, not BlazBlue.

Fighting Style: Are you fast and agile? Slow but strong? Armed with swords? Give a brief description of your overall approach to kombat. Only a few sentences are neccessary.

Special Abilities: These are your kharacters “special moves”, moves that usually have some sort of supernatural flair to them. Include a list of your three main special abilities. A lot of kharacter have some redundancy to their specials, so don’t worry about including “Low Fireball” and “High Fireball”. “Fireball” will suffice. We get it. You shoot fireballs.

Fatality: Obviously you are going to kill people in lots of different ways, but this is your signature way of killing someone. Your finishing move. Be as kreative as possible, and give your Fatality a fancy name.

Personality: A short description of your kharacter’s general attitude and demeanor. As you an arrogant prick? The strong silent type? We need to know these things. At the end of the day, the special abilities and fatalities are fun, but this is an RP, not a videogame. It’s story and kharacter driven.

Backstory: Your bio. Especially important if you’re playing as an original fighter, because we need to know about who you are and where you come from. 1-2 paragraphs will suffice. If you’re playing as an established fighter, remember that only the events of the first MK game are canon. Liu Kang beat Goro and Shang Tsung to become Champion. Scorpion killed Sub-Zero to avenge his family.

Motivation: Probably the most important section, the reason why you fight. Are you seeking vengeance? Redemption? Honor? Glory? TELL ME.

What if your character is drawn in such a style? But of course not belonging to an anime? As in "This is sorta the art style we have to work with." Is that acceptable?

This is the most important point. The character design has to mesh with the MK universe. If it's drawn in an anime style I suppose it still could, but I just think that typically that kind of art wouldn't fit in. That was really the only point I was trying to make. I guess we'll just have to take it on a case by case basis.

Name: Williamson - The Forgotten Pilgrim

Homeworld: Earth realm

Appearance:

Fighting
Williamsons fighting style is a quick and flurry like fighting style in which he utilizes his sword to its fullest extent along with intermixing martial arts into it. Of course, his fast style requires less armour which of course makes him more vulnerable to damage.

Special Abilities:
-Spinning Swords: Williamson spins his sword around in a circle, alternating between hands inbetween to provide a flurry based attack.
-Superman punch: Essentially what it says on the box. Williamson flies towards his enemy sending a punch with all of his might to their face
-Chokeslam backbreaker: Williamson picks his opponent up by their neck and first sends their back into his knee before tossing him across to the floor.
-Spear: Williamson dives at his opponents waist, sending them both to the floor. Willaimson then sends two punches to his opponents face before getting up and sending a brutal stomp to their chest.

Fatality:
Heads up!
Williamson slices the opposing fighters stomach open, revealing their internal organs. After this he proceeds to send a barrage of punches into the fighters stomach until he finally breaks through the back of the fighter. After this he grabs the fighter by their spine, tosses them into the air and sends his sword spinning after them, cutting them in half at the waist. When the body finally reaches the ground Williamson has torn the head from the body using his hands.

Personality:
Williamson is a sensible and cautious person. Years of battle have hardened him and taught him that war is not fun. He has lost many people that he cared for in his past and prefers to keep relationship with other people at a distance nowadays, becoming a sort of hermit loner over the years. That being said, he will risk his life for others just because of his inherent selflessness. He likes birds a great deal and will take personal offence to anyone killing or harming them for no reason.

Backstory:
Williamson doesn't remember a huge chunk of his early life. From what he has pieced together over the years his father was a Netherrealm sorcerer who had raped Williamsons mother during a period of time before the 15th century. As a result of his mixed blood, Williamsons lifespan has been greatly increased to the point where he far over 300 years old. Williamsons memory of his life kicks in around the time he travelled to Japan and was taught the ways of the samurai. He became a Ronin after his training under a long dead and forgotten master was complete. He travelled from town to town and country to country doing what jobs he could do earn a living. Throughout his travels his fighting experience greatly increased and his knowledge of the world increased with it. However, along with the great advantages his extended lifespan had given him it also resulted in the huge disadvantage of everyone he grew close to dying a long time before he would.

Williamson travelled to America during the early 19th century and generally helped to build small towns and whatnot while avoiding any trouble he could. He fought for the North during the American civil war of course. During World War 2 he travelled to Britain and fought in their military under a different alias as their restrictions on race were more relaxed than Americas. He moved back to America after the war and lived a quiet life, par a few scraps here and there. In more recent times he has gotten a job as a security guard and has the hobby of bird keeping. He lives in a rather sub-par apartment complex and often visits the local park to read.

Motivation: Williamson fights to protect Earth realm mainly for the fact that he lives there.

In my opinion (and just my opinion, maybe you ALL want something different), the Outworld should be winning this tournament by a landslide. And let me explain what I mean. In order to make a nice and fluid MK RP we could go ahead and follow the actual storyline: have Shao Kahn defeated by the Earthrealm defenders and follow to 3. BUT, what if we twist the plot and have the invasion begin with our defenders weakened by their lose at the Outworld? Maybe this brings new alliances since Shao Kahn will surely step in to claim the Earthrealm, using EVERY method possible to convince his allies (Reptile with Zaterra, for example) to help him. With this, some good guys can even turn bad and vice-versa. We will have a good plot because it will be a new one and we can always discuss where to take it. After all, we are re-writing MK's plot and giving Shao Kahn a bit of advantage, after all...he is definitely stronger in the Outworld.

Yeah for sure, Kung Lao is one of my favorites to play as too. In MK9 he definitely had the best Fatality (Quan Chi was a very close second).

Claudius

Name: Claudius

Homeworld: Outworld

Appearance:


Fighting Style: Pankration - Pankration is the native martial arts style of the Greco-Roman world. It is a fusion of Greek Boxing and Wrestling, adding in techniques like kicks and chokes. As such, Claudius is very heavy in delivering punches and take downs, but is also skilled in the distinctive kick to the stomach found in pankration, the gastrizein. Claudius is also equipped with a trident and short sword he keeps on his back and belt respectively, which he uses for special moves. It should be noted that Claudius is weighted down quite a bit by his armor and weapons, with the long trident on his back making quick escapes quite a difficulty. His chest is also very exposed, meaning he must keep it guarded primarily with his heavily armored right arm. His stance is turned slightly to the left, arms up to protect his chest and to deliver punches and grapple.

Special Abilities:

Trident Stab: Claudius lunges forward with his Trident and spears his opponent in the stomach, and then swings them overhead with his trident
Trident Trip: Claudius swings his Trident at the opponent's feet to trip them
Sword Slash: Claudius runs forward and slashes a few times with his sword, however, he is vulnerable to attack in this state.
Smack: Claudius smacks his opponent across the face with his armored arm, disorienting them.


Fatality: With the Fishes: Claudius spears his opponent in both knees, forcing them to the ground. As they are on their knees, Claudius gives them a thumbs down and quickly delivers two slashes with his sword to the opponent's left and right sides, finishing but stabbing his trident into the middle piece of the body and ripping it out by swinging it over head and behind him, smashing the head onto the ground. The fatality is supposed to mirror filleting a fish, a reference to the fact that Claudius' retiarius class is based off a spear fisherman.

Personality: Claudius is a savage man single mindedly fixated on his goal of taking revenge on his former master. He speaks only in short, to the point lines, and both in and out of battle displays great anger and a short temper. This can be his downfall at times, as he may rush into situations without thinking first. In battle, he remains a violent person, but is generally more focused, a result of years of fighting in the arena.

Backstory: Claudius was born in a peasant village in Outworld, one that had a habit of rebellion, well, one rebellion before that was put down by Shao Kahn's armies. In the raid of his village, the young Claudius was taken by the soldiers to become one of Shao Kahn's slaves. The boy was violent and aggressive from day one, not suited to be a house servant and too disobedient to be a laborer. Normally one like him would simply be killed, but the Emperor had other plans for this savage child. He outfitted him in warrior's apparel and sent him to fight wild beasts and prisoners for his amusement in the Arena. Claudius did well, killing every opponent he faced, never once showing mercy. The boy did so well that by the time he had achieved manhood, a feat no one had expected when the sent him to face the vicious animals in his first fight, he was granted his freedom. Returning to the ruins of his childhood home, Claudius was filled with rage towards the emperor, and vowed to kill him with his own hands. From that moment on, Claudius became a wandering warrior, participating in small games in remote villages and fighting anyone who challenged him on his travels through Outword. His only goal to become strong enough to challenge Kahn and slay him. That was when he found out about the Mortal Kombat tournament, and entered into it to achieve the goal he had so long desired.

Motivation: Claudius wants only to kill Shao Kahn, he seeks no other goal and does not care about the fate of anyone or anything else.

I have gripes with this character already.

- Like, I'm cool with a Roman styled character, I think that totally fits in Mortal Kombat.
But... He has too many things at his disposal. It would be different if it was like MK X where you had three different variations to a specific strength, but it is more like MK 9 where it is just one specific variation.

- You have 2 Roman styles, 3 weapons, a tower shield (Which is really heavy by the way.) Grappling (which does not but me at all really.) and Boxing...?

- One is the Tower Shield move, the name just makes no sense... Where did he learn the water technique anyways? Is he earthborn?

- The weapons are going to weigh you down if you have 3 of them.

- If you very Roman like, why do you have boxing integrated into your fighting style?

- Too much utility and not enough risk. You seem too much like a Boss Character that has EVERY GROUND EVER COVERED.

Maybe I'm just being skeptical, but he seems like he needs to be toned down.

Pankration, the fusion of both with an added variety of techniques such as kicking, choking and joint locks, is perhaps the first ever no-limits barehanded fighting contest and was strikingly similar to modern mixed martial arts. It was an event in the Olympics and the romans also had their own contests until they were abolished along with all pagan festivals by a christian emperor whose name escapes me.

No real argument against all your other problems, just saying that having boxing and wrestling is quite accurate. Well, you might say that having a shield, a spear, a net and a short sword is being several types of gladiators at once, whereas they were usually split amongst types very strictly. A guy with a spear and net had just that, a guy with a sword might've had just that or a sword and a small shield, it was all about "character types", so to speak, done for show rather than combat in real life.

Aside from the history thing, even so he has way too much versatility with all the weapons. And it is still around 4 fighting styles. I'd have less problems if he wasn't as "agile" (And the water thing is kind of pretty much just Aqua man. Like, you how these projectiles, what do you need water for?). Like, this sort of character seems like it would be centered around Risk vs reward. But there is little risk with all this stuff. It just leaves a bad taste in my mouth for someone who has been playing MK for years. I look at this and just see Shoa Kahn...

I really like the concept of the character. Having a gladiator fighting in Mortal Kombat makes sense. I also liked how you incorporated the whole "thumbs down" execution thing into his finishing move. The water powers seemed a little random and unnecessary though. Just stay focused on the gladiator angle, with the different weapons and whatnot at his disposal because I think that's a cool idea. I probably would've called him Klaudius though, but that's just me. I also wonder if he has to be from Earthrealm. If he was from Outworld he could have the typical gladiator backstory, being a slave that fought to the death in some kind of arena there. Just a suggestion, I don't have an issue with the current backstory it was just an idea that popped into my head. Maybe he was a slave to Shao Kahn that won his freedom by fighting in the Coliseum. Now he wants to kick Shao Kahn's ass so he fights for the good guys.

Also, I made some slight tweaks to the default kharacter sheet in the OP, jsut so everyone knwos. I added a section for Homeworld and I suggested that you give your fatality a fancy name. Like "Toasty".
