[OOC] Monks of the Solemn Monastery

In a world where Darkness and Light are in a never ending struggle for supremacy a land of extremes called the Solemn Desert become the ever changing battlefield of those two great powers. During the day the sun shines brightly and thus it is the realm of men, where water is sweet and precious and where the faithful are rewarded generously. During the night, however, the servants of darkness, grotesques monsters of shadows and putrescent corpses, reign supreme. Those two extremes usually never meet, for being outside of one's domain and Great Elements is paramount to a death sentence.

There are, however, some exceptions, paragons of Light so arrogant that they will brave the darkness to find lost possessions and darkness so great that, even hidden far into the grottoes of the mountains, their influence still spread. Pray that you will not meet one of these curiosities, for their appearance usually brings great chaos upon the world. They will, unfortunately however, appear as the world is shifting... you must prepare.

You are a young disciple of Light, about to arrive from your greatly lit camp to the ever glowing Solemn Monastery to undertake your training, harnessing mind, body, heart and soul to be a benevolent, wise and self-sacrificing monk capable of great feats of Divine manifestation. Soon the Goddess Luinath will spoke Her blessing upon you, and soon you will become a being of Light.

Ill put up my CS today for sure :) question though, if they're monks of the light wouldn't it be weird for them to have an inward and outward persona? Wouldn't that come across as being fake or not showing your true colors? Lol I might be wrong.

And so are we monks or closer to paladins?

Also for these servants of darkness - Are they humanoid? Do they come in different forms varying on their power? I have a few ideas for them, but I wanna hear the GM's take on the creatures before spewing forth whimsicle ideas :D

Indeed, Inner Persona are things better not shown, that embarass their owner about themselves, so to speak.

We are Monks/Priests of a sort. With a bit of a millitant side when trouble goes down.

The Servants of darkness are in fact the undead corrupted by shadows, so they are walking skeletons clad in shadows.

Name: Kitara
Age:24
Gender: Female

Outward Persona: As one would assume, from a monk, Kitara is a serene, nature-loving being with great compassion and self discipline. She is a dedicated meditator, and excels in her studies and lessons with the great amount of effort she exerts into them. She has a specific passion for animals and their purity.
Inward Persona: Kitara struggles with the concept of death. She isn't satisfied with any explanation of why her family was taken by her; though she believes firmly in the teachings of the monastery, even their explanation of sudden death didn't sit right in her. She has nightmares, believing that she was meant to die along with her family, and that some act of fate saved her. But now, she feels that fate will come and reap what it had sewn so many years ago and return her to her family. So, she struggles with mild paranoia and depression, not understanding where she stands in the greater order of things, not truly knowing if she's an abomination of the cycle of life, not knowing if her second chance at life will be ripped from her hands in a moment's notice. Because of the fear and worry she carries, she finds relief only through intense meditation and training. She'll do whatever she can to keep the terrible thoughts from her mind.
Likes: Plants and animals, mediation, learning, "white noise" (the sounds of nature)
Dislikes: Hate, anger, abuse, bullies, animal abusive (realllly hates), meat (as she is a vegan)

Prior History:Kitara was travelling the world, trying to find herself after the loss of her family in a terrible road accident. They were all going on a family vacation when it happened, no one survived the accident except Kitara, and she only just made it out. After she went through her own mourning processes, she decided it was time to do all the things in life that she felt would bring her fulfillment. After all, she was well aware of its precious, limited time. And so she set off, travelling around the world with nothing but a backpack of personal belongings and a positive attitude.
Eventually, she came across a monastery, the monks there took her in to rest her head, they spoke to her of their teachings, and somehow it all made sense. When the monks invited her to stay, she agreed, not knowing how long it would hold. Weeks passed and turned to months which turned to years, and she now calls that monastery home.

So, questions:

Wouldn't all the monks be wearing the same thing? The robes of their monastery?
I'm assuming none of use were born at the monastery, so we'd all have out own past lives inside us, bubbling and boiling. But, as for the outward persona, wouldn't it generally be the same? As in the code of ethics and mannerisms taught at the monastery would lead them all to act in the same way, that way being the "right" way?

Hm... I see it as the way being a little vague, and as long as some things are kept, up for imterpretation. As for the clothes, some changes can be made in the form of folding or accessorizing them.

Name: Alex Mathison
Age: 22
Gender: Male

Outward Persona: Outwardly, Alex could be seen as the quiet one, a faint smile always touching his lips. When spoken, his words hold great gravity and are seldom spoken without thought. He is quick to help those in need. In his spare time, Alex is usually found alone, in quiet contemplation and self reflection or practicing Tai Chi.

Inward Persona: Despite his cool outwards appearance, Alex's inner world is in a desperate state of self loathing, filled with burning insecurities. Every action he takes is shadowed by overwhelming doubt, forever convinced he'll fail whatever task (however trivial) he undertakes.
Although not afraid of death, his own self disbelief means that he fights with fear of failing, and such doubts cause hesitation, which could one day lead to his very demise.
His worst fear is for his own doubts and fears to cause the death of others.

Likes: Random acts of kindness/selflessness, meditating, practicing Tai Chi, being alone, reading and animals.
Dislikes: Large groups, selfishness, evil in all forms, people suffering, himself.

Prior History: Alex always felt a compassionate need to help others. Growing up, he always tried his best to help whomever he could. Unfortunately, this lead to alot of the more manipulative people taking advantage of him. This slowly lead to bullying and alienation. People knew that because Alex was so kind, he wouldn't say or do anything if anyone were to treat him unfairly, which only served to exacerbate the situation. Despite all this, Alex continued to help those in need and even the people who wronged him, forgiving and forgetting without a second thought. All this lead to all the insecurities and self hatred that burns deep within Alex.
He never mentioned any of this to his family, who seemed oblivious to his torture, believing his small smile perhaps too easily.

At the age of 18, Alex heard of a place with people of a similar mind - others to dedicated themselves to helping others. He felt his new purpose call to him. He explained his intentions to his family, who supported him fully.
As soon as he could, Alex made his way out into the world, to find the monastary. He explained his situation to the monks and felt a bright, new hope blossom within himself when they welcomed him with open arms. The monks seemed to have far more perception than that of his family, sensing the doubt that seemed to seethe from him as if a thick fog. They taught him their ways and soon with the help of meditation and Tai Chi, his own hatred began to slowly subside to managable levels. Yet it still remains and if he cannot overcome it in times of need, it could cost him dearly.

Gender: female

Outward Persona: Determined and full of spirit as the monks would say. Naomi always tries her best at everything she does and rarely gets discouraged. She is very proficient in the physical aspects of her training and is often seen running, jumping, climbing, and performing acrobatics simply for fun. She is unfortunately lacking in any spiritual skill or knowledge but never loses her smile.
Inward Persona: Despite her cheerful demeanor she often wonders if she isn't more of a burden than she is useful. Her impulsive tendencies and eagerness to prove herself can lead her to make mistakes and often get her into trouble. The approval of others is of great importance to her and is a direct reflection of her insecurity about having somewhere she belongs.
Likes: sweets of any kind, food in general, being close to others
Dislikes: being patient, being alone, being disliked

Clothes: (Not really sure what to do here. We will be wearing the monk robes yes?)

Naomi

Prior History: Naomi grew up among the poor and homeless without any parents. Who her parents were or what happened to them is a mystery and not something she really cares to think about. Stealing food to eat was commonplace and as much a necessity as breathing. She wandered from place to place never really having any direction. She never really belonged to anything or had any direction in life other than constantly moving.

After several days of travelling without food she found herself at the monastery and attempted to steal from the food stores but was caught. The monks, however, saw that she was only acting out of desperation and decided to be merciful. They gave her a choice: She could leave without punishment and never return or she could stay, learn their ways, and in exchange she would have a home. It wasn't a very difficult choice, after years of constantly being on the move with so much uncertainty it was a welcome change to actually belong somewhere.
