Animal Based Role-play

Hello! First, I will write a little bit about the role-play idea and then a bit about myself. The idea of this role-play takes me back to the time I first started RPing on RuneScape in 2007, when I was eight years old and didn't know much. Basically, it's kind of a free-range RP, meaning that it probably won't have set conflicts, setting, etc., but rather the participants create the world themselves as we go along. You can RP as an animal of your choice, as long as it could survive in, say, a forest setting. However, you aren't constricted to only RPing in the forest; you can go on to choose to be in a tundra, desert, etc. That would, of course, mean you couldn't interact with characters not in your particular biome.

Additionally, I actually won't rule out having a human character. While it is highly recommended and encouraged that you have an animal character at the same time you have a human one, it's not a requirement. As I said, in the RP, it's generally to flex your creative muscles as you create a story for your character while interacting with others. Pretty simple, right? You're in charge.

There will be some basic rules, of course. The general site rules definitely apply, and I have some additional ones to list once a few people are gathered to participate.

Hmm. How advanced are the animals? Do they all have a common language to communicate? Can they use basic tools? I might be interested, but I generally don't do animal stuff.

Aside from answering those basic questions, you might want to include lore - as in, how this situation arose. A roleplay of this type with normally non-sapient characters needs a general explanation because it raises many, many questions. Are the animals truly magical in some aspect or are they only capable of higher thought and speech? Were they uplifted by humans in the future to be more intelligent, probably for some specific role? Is this an alternate timeline wherein animals gained sentience and not just humans? Are there both "normal" non-sentient animals and sentient ones?

The other issue is where you are in time and its limits; is it the far flung past with primitive humans? Is it the conventional past, such as a "recorded" part of human history? Modern era? Or again the future, perhaps even a far flung or post apocalyptic future?

I always liked the idea of animal roleplays, given my love for the wild world, so I look forward to seeing what you have in mind.

The animals can communicate with each other through a common language. However, they cannot communicate with humans, unless that human has a sort of magical ability which would have to be approved first. Not everyone is going to be able to just talk with animals, if they're a human. Basically, it would be an alternate timeline where animals are as emotionally and socially advanced as humans, though, like I said, unable to communicate with humans.

As for the general timeline, it will take place in a fantasy medieval world. Modern technology like all these advanced electronics would not exist, but magic/witchcraft etc. would be the norm.

Animals can use magic! Like I said, there's just a special...type of magic, I guess, for them to be able to talk to humans. And any kind of animal with any ability is welcome. :)

Now I'm at the hard part. Do I use that rabbit, or my Boomslang Snake... I guess you generally wouldn't find the snakes in regular forests though, huh?

Herbalism. You don't see that alot, but I really like it. If I do go with the snake, than I'm definitely having him know herbalism. Every party needs a healer.

also I can speak as someone who has almost stepped on a snakes during several forest hikes; SNAKES ARE TOTALLY IN FORESTS it just depends on where we are geographically and the type of snake. I live in Texas, where we have many of the 'traditional' looking forests, the kind people think of when people think 'forest' and we got snakes by the basket full. Snakes, like most animals, are sort of everywhere in some breed or another.

So all I would have to do is just change his breed? Let me look up some snakes that live in America. Or, does this take place in another place?
