The issue isn't Monkey escaping but rather just flat out turning into light. You can try to escape if you want, but KoL has something planned ahead so it's probably best to wait it out.

@TheWindel Ok. So, does the barrier extend underground? Can I try to escape that way? Or should I stay there? You're saying it's ok if I escape, but also that I should sit there and wait for the plot to happen, which one of those takes precedence?
