Liam wondered if that trainer was going to try and come back for Lotad.

"They would if they truly cared for the little guy," Shiranui answered.

"They probably won't, I saw it in his eyes he didn't care about lotad." Lance says clenching his fists.

"Well, what can we do about the poor Lotad?"

[James Davy]

"I suggest we seek its decision on whether to come with one of us or pursue a life of abandonment," Shiranui answered.

"I hope it doesn't want to return to its awful trainer." Liam stated.

[James Davy]

"I hope so too," replied Shiranui.

"I have heard many stories about Pokémon who are mistreated by trainers, but they keep going back, no matter how many times they are abused." Liam said.

The trainer soon walked into the Pokemon center, "that's him" he said to his friends. The trainer seemed to come back to rest and relax, "it's you that boy who thinks lotad will become strong,so idiotic" he said laughing. "Lotad doesn't deserve a trainer like you" Lance took a little pause to think. "If you can't trust your Pokemon how do you expect it to grow up strong" Lance said. "I have a wager" he picked up Zhonyas poke ball "if I beat you in a 1 on 1 Pokemon battle you gotta give me lotads poke ball and if I lose, I'll give you my ralts" he said calling out Zhonya who heard the wager.

Lance had complete faith that he would win, Zhonya looked back at Lance and saw how he was serious immediately preparing for the battle to come. "Haven't seen one of those yet, I guess I'll take your Pokemon then." The trainer said

"Meet me outside and we will battle" Lance said walking out the Pokemon center.

Shiranui followed Lance outside. "Lance, a trainer like him would likely go for power over strategy," he advised.

"Seems right for his personality," Lance said back to shiranui. "Hurry up and let me take your Pokemon" he said, "alright, let's go Zhonya" Zhonya hopped out onto the battlefield. "Come beat this runt, nuzleaf" nuzleaf appeared smirking with cockiness. "Ready to go, say the conditions of the match shiranui to make sure we both fully understand what's at stake" Lance said

"This match will be a 1-on-1 battle with no time limit!" stated Shiranui, "At stake is a Ralts and a Lotad with the winner keeping custody of both! Begin!" With that call, the battle was on. "Ralts vs Nuzleaf; type-wise Zhonya has the advantage," he mused, "If Lance plays his cards right, that Lotad is as good as his."

Lance smirked, "alright, let's begin use confusion on the pebbles and rocks around you." Lance said. Lance knew that psychic attacks would have no effect on nuzleaf. "Nuzleaf razor leaf now" the trainer said, nuzleaf whipped it's head around sending a flurry of razor sharp leafs at ralts. "Use the rocks to block" Lance said. The leaves and rocks collided both dissipating from the equilibrium of power. "Nuzleaf tackle" nuzleaf speed towards Zhonya hitting her. "Nuzleaf is fast keep on your guard Zhonya." "That's not gonna work, nuzleaf another razor leaf" nuzleaf jumped sending another flurry of leaves towards Zhonya. "Zhonya use confusion and stopped the leaves. "Tackle again" the trainer said, "he's in close range Zhonya, Disarming voice" Zhonya inhaled air and let out an ear piercing shout" nuzleaf flew black taking a critical hit. "Nice Zhonya, he can't withstand one more of those." "Get up fight nuzleaf stop laying around" the opposing trainer shouted, "faint attach go" nuzleaf stepped back and disappeared becoming invisible. "Now it's time to be Serious, I could use they Pokemon of yours" he said, "Now nuzleaf" nuzleaf landed a critical hit on Zhonya causing her to tumble across the battlefield. It seems like it was over.

"I'll be taking that Pokemon from you, obviously you didn't race it right" he said, "we're just getting started" Zhonya got back up and began glowing blue, evolving. Ralts has evolved into kirlia, "Zhonya and I want to win this for lotad." Zhonya nodded, " now Zhonya use teleport to close the gap, " Zhonya nodded and in the blink of an eye was in front of Nuzleaf, "disarming voice and finish this battle" Zhonya inhaled and let out a terrifying screech worst then the last. Nuzleaf flew towards his trainer hitting him causing them both to fall over. The trainer laid on the ground dazed, "you...win" he said holding up lotads pokeball. "Thank you, looks like your under new training lotad, welcome to the team" Lance picked up lotads pokeball, lotads watched and admired Zhonya battle gracefully, he complimented her and she replied back thanking her. Lotads then began blushing, "hey do Lotad usually turn a bit red?" Lance asked shiranui.

"Only when they're blushing," Shiranui answered with a smile. He presented Lance with a disc. "This TM contains an essential move for a Lotad and that is Rain Dance. Both of its standard abilities involve the rain from making it faster to recovering a little of its health over time; and even if this Lotad has the Own Tempo ability, the rain will still be a boon for it."

[pkken]

"Maybe lotad likes kirlia" Lance said scratching his face. "Thanks shiranui, we should probably get going to the next town" Lance turned to the trainer. "Maybe we can battle again for fun instead of trade" Lance said smiling. He then went to go heal his Pokemon.

[James Davy]

"You're welcome," replied Shiranui, "You'll have no problems with Lotad if it gets along with the rest of your team."

[pkken]

"I'm sure I won't he'll fit in just fine" Lance said rubbing lotads lilypad. "We're gonna get strong alright lotad" Lance said.

Joy, who was alerted by a Chancey about the wager came up to the battle field, and she was scarlet. She began to yell and chastise both Lance and the other trainer. Her tirade of a lecture was about how Pokémon are living breathing creatures that deserve our love, and shouldn't be waged. She walked off after saying her piece. Liam had never seen any of Joys (which since he is related to them means he's including a good deal of them) get that mad. He could almost see the steam shooting out from her ears.

"I've heard of your relatives getting angry when Pokémon get mistreated, but seeing it happen is an eye-opener," stated Shiranui, in shock from witnessing a Nurse Joy's tirade.

Lance apologized, "well I already knew I was going to win, we could never lose to a trainer who sees his Pokemon as toys and not as comrades" Lance said scratching his chin.
