“Really?” Victoria asked Duncan as he said it was the nearest he’d been to a calf. “Could have fooled me. You must be a natural then.” She chuckled sweetly. As he mentioned that he was supposed to head into town, her face dulled slightly as she realised she had put him on the spot like that. “Oh, I’m sorry I didn’t mean to intrude on your day. But…if you’ve not got any cooking supplies or even furniture, it won’t do you any good. You need the necessities before you get anyone in there, that’s for certain!”

He offered for her to hop onto his wagon She took one look at her white steed and nodded. “Alright. Phillipe, you head on back to the stables now” She patted his back and he trotted off as that was the signal he was home free to roam a bit. She turned to Jasper then “Home.” He yapped and trotted off back to the house. “Good boy!” She yelled after him and then turned, picked up her long skirt and held it slightly higher than her knees as she took a running jump and vaulted over the fence. She landed in the dirt somewhat sloppily. “Much harder in this darn dress.”

She dusted her dress down but the hem was a lot dirtier than before. “Belle’s gonna be mad.” She simply stated nonchalantly at Duncan as she passed him by and got up on the wagon by herself. “We going or what?” She asked with a playful smile. Any other girl in town would have expected him to help them up to it. Not Victoria, she was more independent from being used to doing things for herself. It would be nice to be treated like a Lady sometimes though. And this Duncan seemed like a gentleman, good mannered. She hoped her father would like their new neighbour or it would cause all sorts of problems and drama she didn’t want.
A very underrated character indeed.
Will try to get something up at some point today. Having family issues.
Dont know yet! Improvisation is really the key here lol.
Victoria turned her head up to the sound of an oncoming wagon. The gentle breeze sent a couple of her hair strands into her eyes, to which she gently moved to the side of her face so it wasn't in the way of her vision. She saw her new neighbour coming toward them...in a full wagon. A little bit over the top but he handled the vehicle well enough.

She nodded at him as he greeted her. "Hello." She replied to his howdy.

As soon as he mentioned his name, she let him get on with his plan but returned the sharing of information. "Victoria."
“Lower the bucket a little and tempt him.” She did as she was told and the calf stuck his head into the bucket and managed to free itself. She breathed a sigh of relief then. "Thank you Mister Moran." She placed a hand on her chest as she watched the calf happily trot off to find its mother.

"You sure know a lot more about cattle than people give you credit for." Victoria remarked as she put her hands on her hips and nodded with a smile to her neighbour.

"Ah don't worry about it. Suppose you got your hands full and all." She chuckled as Duncan explained about the state of his farm. A thought then occurred to her after he mentioned he was seeming to struggle with life out here and organising everything.

"Well...." She started and came over a little bashful as she placed her hands in front of her and held together neatly. "Since you did me a kind favour of helping my calf, how bout I return the gesture and you come over for dinner? It'll save you the trouble of heading all the way into town and back." She suggested as she raised both her eyebrows as she reasoned, trying not to make a big deal out of it. "Call it neighbourly hospitality. Perhaps I may be able to help you out a bit with your farm. My Daddy has things under wraps around here and I like being useful...also saves me some boredom." She smiled brightly as Jasper sniffed Duncan's trouser leg and smelt all manner of wonderful new futuristic smells he hadn't encountered before.

"Seems Jasper likes you." Victoria chuckled as she fluffed his ears and got him to stop sniffing Duncan too much out of rudeness.

~The Crest Farmstead~

3 days ago..

Alexander and Victoria Crest rode the perimeters of his white picket fence like he did every day at high noon. His farm land bordered that of the new and mysterious stranger's farm. The weather was a little overcast today, which signalled the coming rain to dowse the parched grasslands that his cattle and horses fed off. He rode a black and white American Mustang and she rode a prized white stallion, worth its weight in coin - that was how much he loved his little girl. His mane was kept pristine thanks to his daughter's loving tender care of the farm's animals.

Alex stops his horse by the click of his heels against the saddle. "Woah boy." The horse neighed and bowed its head and trotted to a stop. Victoria mimicked him as he peered over the fence to see a house slowly forming in the distance in his neighbours land. He was surprised at how quickly it was erected in just seven days. No-one had seen height or hair of the young lad that claimed to own it. Apparently he had been taken for a ride was the gossip round town, the horse merchant was particularly tickled...

"Damn crazy fool. I give him one month before he's tossed out on his behind." Alex tutted.

"Now Papa." Victoria chuckled at his bluntness. Her long wavy hair was partially tied back with a silver jewelled clip and some of her strands of hair frayed slightly from her face in the gentle breeze.

"Give the poor man a chance." She clicked her heels and Phillipe set off again on border patrol.

~~~~~~~~
Present day..
That morning Victoria had fed the horses, brushed them down as she did every morning. She loved each and every single one of them very much but her white stallion Phillipe was her most treasured. He was always the one who had the strongest personality and he seemed to listen to her and she swore he could speak back 'with his eyes'. Her best friend Jasper, a red border collie who helped to herd the farm's cattle with the horse riders was sat watching in the corner as she went about her routine.
Donning a long floral pale yellow summer dress due to the humidity and heat she could not bear to wear her jeans and ranch boots. It was just too hot. Her dress complimented her blue eyes and contrasted with her dark hair.
She hummed softly as she brushed Phillip's white fluffy mane. Suddenly Jasper's ears pricked up. He whined slightly. "What is it boy?" Victoria turned around to see how confused he was. And then he suddenly bolted.
"Jasper!!" She yelled after him and quickly ran to the door in her small ankle boots. She saw him run off into the fields and soon out of sight. "Jasper come back!!" She shouted, all her workers turned their heads and attempted to capture the dog but he was too springy for them.
"Oh God." She ran back into the stable and mounted Phillipe in one swift leap up, she had mastered the art of horse riding. "HYAH!" She clicked he heels and Phillipe sprang into action straight into a gallop out of the barn.
She took off toward where Jasper had went, hoping to catch up to him. She soon spotted the collie at the border fence adjacent to their new and mysterious neighbour. His name was apparently Duncan according to the townsfolk. Her faithful red haired companion had found a calf stuck within the fence. The poor thing got curious to the next field and got its head wedged between the pickets.
She came to a stop and hopped down from her horse. "Good boy!" She fussed Jasper as she passed him and went to help the calf. But with only her bare hands, she could not free the calf's head without it squealing. She attempted to pull the white stake out from the ground but that proved futile as well as she struggled to pull it out. "Someone help!!"
She shouted back out to her farm, she had to get the calf's neck out, she was struggling frantically and causing herself to bleed. "Please come quick!!" She worried for the calf as she tried to kick the post down.
"Hold on Moozie!" She grunted as the fence would not budge. If only she had some tools...
@Life in Stasis
Really interesting idea!! And very, very unique.
Name: Victoria Crest
Gender: Female
Age: 22
Ethnicity: White Caucasian; Half British-Half French descent
Hair: Dark Brown
Eyes: Blue
Height: 5’3”
Build: Slender frame, pear shaped female body with modest bosom and slightly wider hips, can’t lift more than 20kg.
Other Features:
Victoria mostly wears ranch clothing about the farmstead but wears a lot of formal dresses for visits into town on business with her Father.
Background:
Victoria Crest was born to a wealthy cattle rancher and British businessman Alexander Crest and French born Iris Moncourier-Crest. They moved to New Mexico in search of a new business venture from Britain a few years before she was born. Unfortunately, Iris died in childbirth leaving Alex to raise his daughter single handedly with a live-in au pair called Belle. She was a woman who prized herself in looks and passed this down to her charge. She always dressed Victoria in pretty dresses she handmade and perfected her hair in curls and bows. Her Father taught her how to horse ride but didn’t spend as much time with her as she would have liked. Belle brought her up with manners and respect for others to become a very well sought after bride by a wealthy man one day.
Victoria befriended the daughter of an African-American slave that worked on her Father’s cattle ranch. She was called Tia. Victoria always felt bad that Tia looked scruffy and wore torn clothes. So, one day she gave her one of her dresses to wear and combed her hair and put a bow in her hair. When Belle saw the little girl in Victoria's clothes and hair accessories she went ballistic at Tia and thought she had stolen them. She grabbed her, stripped her of the dress and threw her into the hole in the ground outside as punishment, leaving her only in her undergarments. Victoria was horrified, being only 8 at the time, she did not understand that other people of colour were deemed 'second class' citizens. She only saw Belle as a mean old lady and yelled at her, practically screaming the house down until she let Tia out. Her Father was told of this and when he tried to address Victoria about the status of Tia being unworthy of fine garments like her, she did not understand and threw a tantrum claiming that Tia should be able to look just as pretty as her. She also told her father that it was hard not having a mommy, being left alone a lot in the house and Tia was like a sister to play with. Alex relented and allowed her to have her way, from then on, any slaves who were punished, Victoria would either let them out with a key or scream at her Father until he let them out. She became very rebellious.
Victoria grew up not being able to tolerate how cruel white people were to slaves. Something did not feel right about it. Tia was her equal. She became so attached that she bonded more to Tia's father than her own. Tia's father was always around the farm. He taught her how to make a camp fire, how to hunt small rodents, however disgusting it was to see and how to forage for food off the land.
Her Father taught her all about the business and at the age of 10 joined him on the farm, milking cows, learning how to churn cheese and butter. How finances worked. At the age of 15 she did all his banking and finance going to and from the bank in town. By the age of 20 she had learned a great deal about cattle ranching and how to buy the best cows and bulls, how to herd them with a horse and provide for the farm. She only had to hone her managerial skills from being too soft on the workers and she would be ready to take over fully from Alex. Only, she didn't want to. It bored her to no end. She spent most of the time dreaming, horseback riding and hanging out with Tia, whenever she was free, which wasn't a lot anymore. Not like when they were kids, spending every day together. She feared they were growing apart.
She is now 22 and her Father keeps pestering her about potential suitors in the town. The young batchelors available didn't interest her much, they were either too privileged, snobby, cowardly, or didn't even know how to treat a Lady properly.
Personality:
Extremely meticulous about how the farm is ran, much like her Father, she likes it all to run smoothly but treats all her workers with respect unlike her Father. She is loyal and respectful, polite and courteous but is a fiery spirited young woman who only dreams of adventure. Her father hates that she always appears to be in ‘dreamland’ sat on a hill wondering about faraway lands and a Prince Charming coming to steal her away from a simple and boring life.
Quirks:
Very rebellious against her Father but he dotes on her as his only child and only reminder left from his late wife. Works hard but also plays hard. Known for taking off into the sunset at a moment’s notice on her trusty steed. If she doesn’t get what she wants from her father, which is very little that she asks for compared to most daughters, she will throw a tantrum. She is somewhat spoiled but knows she has to work for most things. She does not want for anything – in fact she’d rather see her enslaved friend be given more and be treated right, and if she isn’t, Victoria then makes it happen anyway against her Father’s wishes.
Strengths:
Headstrong – she knows what she wants and is not afraid to say it.
Resilient – if a horse threw her off, she will dust herself off and gets right back on.
Compassion – she can’t help but feel care and empathy for those in need and she would take on the world for them if she had to.
Adaptable – the slaves on the ranch taught her a thing or two about survival skills.
Weakness:
Physically weak – can’t really handle herself that well in a fist fight etc.
Emotional – She is prone to depression, sadness, loneliness and quick to anger.
Stressed – her life constantly has her running around under pressure to meet demand of a busy cattle farm; she rarely has a chance to relax.
Likes:
Horseback riding (and bare horseback).
Animals, including cattle.
Archery/shooting.
Playing piano, listening to music and dancing.
Dislikes:
Slavery.
Oppression.
Dishonesty.
DIY.
