And back I am. Exhausted, certainly, and may need a while for that to wear off, but I'm once more here to read and even write!

Should have been writing posts. Took part in D&D shenaniganry instead. Got to fix that tomorrow.

There's a lot of backlog here on my end. I'm trying my best to lessen it, but replies might be less frequent for a time. A welcome change from the nothing doing I went through though! Thanks partners!

Bio

I suppose it is about time for me to copypaste fill in some information about myself over here just as well. Only took me a few years to getting around to do it.

I am a married individual in my twenties from the country some people dare claim does not exist. The Finland conspiracy is an old joke, you can stop with it now. Not a native speaker of the English language by any means, though I did begin studying it exceptionally early for our country's standards. I suppose it was some sort of a test case. With that out of the way though, what more should I be saying here...
  • I like being nice to people. If one needs to ask why, well that alone is reason enough.
  • I play and Dungeon Master Dungeons and Dragons, both offline and in the past also over here.
  • I enjoy OOC chatter, be it planning the RP or a more casual exchange (not that RP'ing is that serious). I can make do without, but don't be afraid to talk to me.
  • Whatever the case, I'm here to have fun and hone my writing abilities!
I do think that should about cover it, yes.

Thanks for stopping by I suppose! I do also have a Discord account, but I prefer to start anything RP related on the site. At least with people I don't know from the past, that is! But hey, now if you are a longer time contact of mine and happened to read this, now you know and can ask!

Have you noticed it is your turn? I would appreciate a post ASAP now that we have finished messing with what Orchid did.
@Lucius Cypher
Orchid will have made it to the top, it was about 40 feet of climbing. Let me make some basic trigonometry to find the distance. For simplicity, let us assume the dragon's current flying height is approximately equal to the height of the tower (while it really flies a bit higher, but I am no mathematician).

As per the Pythagorean theorem, in a right triangle we can find the length of any side through a2 + b2 = c2. In our case, c would be the distance from the rest of the party (100 feet) and a would be distance to the top of the tower (40 feet). Thus we will have to find b.

402 + b2 = 1002
1600 + b2 = 10000 || - 1600
b2 = 8400 || take square root
b = ~92ft.

That would mean that b (the distance between Orchid and the dragon) is roughly 92 feet, a wee bit far to fling harpoons. Also, if I use any terms that are off, please excuse me. I don't speak science that well in English, given all of my education has been in Finnish.
@Lucius Cypher
To be honest, I would rather have you roll again due to it being a different action. What was the range of a harpoon again? As was said, I have no books here.
@Lucius Cypher
Yeah, jumping will not be enough for this distance. It's approximately 100ft. away now, counting the height difference and general distance. Even with the height difference being less of an obstacle for our Half-Orc, the rest of the gap is still too much to jump.
@Lucius Cypher
I, uhh, hate to interject, but the dragon has continued it's flight since it's last turn. It is currently not in feasible grappling range.
@Dusksong
There would be no way to tell that without trying. It won't work though, that door is in too good of a shape.
The post may be somewhat rushed, sorry about that. At least I got it up in time.

Anyway, @Gordian Nought, you know the drill.
Below the imposing figure of the mighty dragon, our heroes put up a valiant effort in driving away the force mighty enough to quite possibly tear the keep down brick by brick, especially with the aid of the raiders outside. Surprisingly, it felt the sting of something as the weapon created by Ice Knife pierced it's hide. However, a lucky beat of it's wings pushed away the shrapnel from the explosion and spared it from further harm.

As the half-orc began their climb on the outer wall quite successfully, the Paladin began looking for bigger weaponry. As if by pure chance, he overheard a discussion between two members of the guard passing by: "No, we don't have any 'bigger guns' as you put it. We are a defensive keep, what would we do with, say, a catapult or a ballista? And like we'd have the money to keep cannons supplied..." Not good news, but at the very least he now knew searching further would not be fruitful. Receiving the news must have messed with his aim, since the shot they took went wide, missing the dragon completely.

Parum's mocking words seemed to not bother the dragon in the slightest, as it kept on flying upwards, the same with the arrow let loose by Kyra or the multiple guardsmen. As it scaled the tower, it began turning to it's right towards the front battlements of the keep. It now flew quite a bit higher and there was no crackling within it's maw. It didn't seem to bother attacking without it's breath weapon, as if disinterested in this whole fight.

@Norschtalen
You may want to reconsider your action: Guidance is a concentration cantrip and using it would end your Bless. Do notify me if you for some reason do not want to, otherwise I will be waiting for an update.

I'm going to sleep now and will do my best to post before I have to go tomorrow.
@Lucius Cypher
Sure, I'll find the section in my DMG real quick.

Says here that it will be the "grappler's" Athletics/Acrobatics versus the target's Acrobatics to successfully climb on. While in the creature's space, you move with it and have advantage on attack rolls made against it (friendly reminder that advantages do not stack). You can move around as if on diffcult terrain, but be wary: the other creture can force you to a contested check of creature's athletics versus "grappler's" Athletics/Acrobatics and on a failure off you go.

And given you mentioned instant kills, the rule for that is if you ever end up in negatives at or or below the opposite number of your maximum hit points, you die. Falling deals 1d6 damage for every 10 feet you fall, to a maximum of 20d6. In short, you won't want to find yourself soaring through the air without wings.
