You do realise the SFSR shut down in 1991 right?

You do realize that I was speaking not from a modern standpoint?

Instead speaking from a "Cold War gone hot then nukes get tossed around" standpoint?

Its pretty obvious if you just read it again.

The same can be applied to spawnkillers, specifically when it relates to people who are playing the game for the first time. Let's say you just got this game, you spawn in, and not even five minutes in, five minutes into a world you know nothing about and are eager to explore and discover, you get sniped.

I have this hilarious image of someone spawning into a world, looking around in amazement. "Oh wow this is amazin-" ded.

I smell the Modern Warfare games coming true, but I hope that I didn't just jinx us. If I was my old self I'd suggest whacking Putin, but that might just send us into war anyway. Personally, considering Russia's alliance with China, we Americans would be screwed.

LOL

As someone who knows a Russian or two, Russians hate the Chinese. They sell the Chinese equipment, because the Russians see dollar signs from the deal. The only people in Asia they really give a shit about are the Indians, and thats because they are paying out the ass (For them at least) to get their hands on the T-50/PAK-FA.

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2014/08/31/putin-threatens-nuclear-war-over-ukraine.htmlDoes anyone know if Russia has a two man rule for nuclear weapons? Hoping there will be a coup if he invades, say, Estonia and NATO resists, prompting a nuclear threat from him.

The Russians would have an issue with just walking into any Baltic nation due to the presence of US forces.

The issue is, our nuclear force has decayed. We need a more credible first strike capability. Russia bolsters it nuclear force.I used to buy into MAD, but thought experiments in light of recent events have changed my mind.Suppose Russia rolls into Estonia. With a weak nuclear arsenal and conventional force (which, thankfully, we don't have), sufficient only to devastate Russian cities but with no counterforce capabilities, we can:1. Use our nuclear weapons and bear the full Russian response (commit suicide but do significant damage to Russia)2. Let them have it.With a credible first strike capability and a large conventional force, we can escalate conventionally to test Russian resolve. The question becomes the resolve of Russia and limits the requisite resolve on the part of the United States.

No we however have an armed forces that is more equipped for a war of attrition. Believe it or not the Russians don't have any reserves of the modern equipment they are currently producing, any kind of serious losses of modern aircraft, tanks, etc. would greatly impact the Russians.

How about Russian?Anglo-French, at what level of Russian provocation would you support your country independently using its nuclear capabilities?Russians, American/Chinese provocationChinese, Russian/American provocationIndians/Pakistanis, each other and for Indians, China.Israelis, Arab world.I have deliberately not provided casualty estimates, as A. I just had this idea for a topic, B. That's a lot of research, C. I want to see how your opinions change once I give cold hard numbers. But, I suspect you will all look it up anyway to avoid looking disproportionately hawkish/dovish. D. Because there are different attack options.

For the US, it depends.

Hundreds of tactical nuclear warheads were to be used in the event of a third world war in Europe. Both sides had plans to use said weaponry to great effectiveness in order to eliminate entire regimental sized formations and great gaps and openings to conduct offenses into.

The combined overall nuclear warhead count of NATO was smaller than Russia's however NATO had more medium/long-range ballistic missiles with better guidance packages than the Russians had. What this brings into play is that the Russians would have been unable to utilize nuclear weaponry without some kind of major event that would seriously impact not the WP, but the SFSR itself. This could be anything from NATO troops (For some dumb reason) advancing into the SFSR, or maybe NATO troops on the verge of taking a major city (St. Petersberg, Moscow, etc).

Models created about a possible nuclear exchange during the later-Cold War end up with a NATO pyrrhic victory at best.

Maybe that was the point. The tunnelers represented a nihilistic worldview, one in which every action you take ultimately doesn't matter as, eventually, all will die, and all change wrought will be forgotten. Maybe the game challenges your ideology, asking if in the face of insurmountable odds, you would still attempt to affect change on your surroundings, or if you'd just give up.

Maybe, however however by the time I got to the tunnelers Lonesome Road was starting to annoy me with how butt-fuckingly hard it was becoming. I just simply began to launch mini nukes a the Tunnelers.

Which didn't kill them right away.

And I cried.
The 1960s,

The time for peace, love and happiness in the West, also for the protesting of the Vietnam Conflict. However while US Marines battle it out with the NVA in the jungles of the Far East, the Chinese and the Russians border skirmishes heavily escalated and a full fledged war broke out between the two super powers. However calling the Chinese a super power was only in name. The irregular, obsolete Chinese military was utterly crushed by the might of the massive Russian military and their highly advanced forces. The war lasted little more than three months and found Russia to have taken nearly half of the People's Republic, securing vital resources and farmland for the Soviet cause.

NATO was stunned, such a very shocking display of Russian military might against the most powerful Asian nation made many Westerners second think their standing against the Eastern Bloc. This was evident in Western Germany, where the Communist Green Party took the majority of the Parliament and removed the Federal Republic, demanding all NATO forces to leave West Germany and then proceeded to reunite with East Germany, making the German Democratic Republic a true reality.

Along with this, the Eastern Bloc gained 7% of the world's steel output, a massive automotive industry and a very large nation to further their cause. With NATO losing their buffer state of West Germany, Western Europe began to question the resolve of simply not giving up to the Eastern Bloc.

The 1970s,

With Germany now a socialist nation and hundreds of thousands more troops added to the Soviet cause, Russia began to demand the capitulation of Italy and France. Millions of Eastern Bloc troops were pressed against the border of Germany, tanks fueled and engines running, awaiting to crush the weakened NATO forces in the two nations. As expected, the two nations gave in, hours into their announcement, whatever European nations that had not given into the USSR finally surrendered. All the nations, save for England, were now under the crimson and gold banner of Communism. This also brought forward the abolishing of the UN and NATO, leaving what few free nations left to fend for themselves.

Along with Europe falling, NATO dissolved, the American military left mainland Asia, faced with the possibility of a Soviet invasion of America via Cuba. They consolidated their power, removing their troops from many of their Pacific allies and building the United States into a fortress, a last bastion against the Soviet menace.

Fast forward,

For the last thirty years, the Soviet Union had done the same as the Americans. They withheld their expansionist policies to build-up their armies and economies, while the Americans began to fall into a depression and a serious falter of American military power. The United States lost their last European ally, England, in the 1990s when a Soviet invasion of the British Isle shattered the resolve of the British people, many fled to United States and Canada, swearing to return to their mother Isles again one day.

The American hold on Iceland also quickly fell apart, with American military spending slashed, the United States could only train a small force of Icelandics to defend their nation and leave. However only a few weeks into their departure, Russian Naval Infantry invaded and took the island, and with that taking more of the American oil supply from the Icelandic off shore oil fields.

January 1st, 2014,

While the Americans and Canadians huddle by fires, shattered by a crushing twenty year depression, an incompetent government, a Red Scare like that from the 1950s and a crime wave that seemed to be from the 1920s with massive organized units having more control than the government. The Russian navy entered American waters, the few seaworthy combat ships of the United States Navy were destroyed in port by Tu-22M3s and their massive long range anti-shipping missiles.

As the first few ships of the United States Navy began to fall sink, some only a few meters, into their ports, the aircraft of the United States Air Force began to engage the hordes of Soviet fighter aircraft. The battles were stunning, over many major US cities along the East coast people could see the aircraft mingle in the air as both sides fought to secure the air space. After, surprisingly, many losses, the Soviet Air Force won out of attrition and the skies were firmly in the hands of the Soviets.

The opening phases of the ground assault were launched by naval infantry, landing at many large naval ports across the northeast coast. These shock troops were met by, initially, very little resistance, however as tens of thousands of Soviet troops began to pour into the United States, their long besieged residents began to resist their Soviet occupiers. New York had been the focal point of Soviet landings, with thousands of troops landing in the city within hours. This would be were the Soviets would establish their GHQ, until it could be moved to another location at a different time.

It was also were the first organized resistance was met. With groups formed out of the scare of a Soviet invasion years before, these resistance groups were slowly building for the day the Soviets would invade. Many of these groups were centered in New York, and were slowly becoming very popular within the US.

However the sudden shock of the Soviet invasion jostled the groups response, and by the time the first groups had organized, Soviet troops were already marching down the streets of New York.

One of the most important groups in the American resistance was the AMerican LIberation Front or AMLIF for short. They are based in New York City, New York and operate in the sewers of the massive metropolis.

Rules

1. No Godmoding, autohitting, etc. I will allow light brushing, stuff like that, however that should be just it. Godmoding is a very good way to piss me off very quickly.

2. Minimal of 1 paragraph (5 sentences), there are exceptions to that rule. Consider this moderate to high-casual.

3. Equipment section is for AMLIF only, if Russian go by equipment list listed on here. If squad position differs from standard rifleman you're list in the 'Accepted Apps' will reflect your equipment differences. Like an Anti-Tank Grenadier will have an RPG-7V2 and an AK-104 instead of the standard AK-74M, PKM gunner may have just his PKM. So on. PM me if you want a different job in with the Russians. However control your weapons and ammo.

4. No Mary-Sues or John-Does please, they are very annoying.

Bio: Was in New York City on a business trip when the invasion started. Like many Americans he partaked in the initial chaos and began looting. However he did not loot stores but instead he looted gun shops and acquired a number of rifles, both semi-automatic and bolt-action. As the chaos ended and the Russians began to exert control, he organized a small band of resistance members and fled into the sewers to take refuge from the Soviets.

They arrived to a large band of resistance members and were absorbed into the group. This new group, the AMLIF, began to harass and annoy the Russian invaders. Due to his rather rare commanding skills, Chance took a job as a high-ranking general of sorts. However instead of sitting underground, giving orders from a desk, he opted to lead strikes of enemy checkpoints, taking ammunition, medical supplies and whatever food they had.
I personally didn't like the Tunnelers.

"Well no matter what you ever do its all going to die."

Thats not really motivation to play, if in the end its all for shit.

Use itself wouldn't be the only factor in how many rounds are left around either. You got to take into consideration the environment their in. I wouldn't doubt that over time the powder or the casing of the bullets would deteriorate over time leading to a situation where they could misfire or are inoperable. You can only make matters worse by storing them inappropriately. Moisture can deteriorate the casing or even the lubrication between it and the bullet itself.

Its kind of hard to store rounds improperly unless your outright do so like in the mud, dirt, and just left there. There are many stockpiles of 50-60 year old ammunition still being sold off, commonly known calibers like .303 and 7.62x54mmR. Going to sites like gunbroker will yield ammunition that can be easily 100+ years old. Another thing is that Fallout doesn't like to put expiration dates on some of their things, as is known with the number of microwave entrees that you can go out and find.

While moisture is a valid issue, the post-nuclear wasteland in most places doesn't have to deal with it. In fact the dry heat that would be common in most places is excellent in preserving things, proof of this can be seen in the Dead Sea Scrolls.

Dinh AaronMk said You may also get a lot of people who aren't trained to use guns as the US Military is. Even consideration to "Spray and pray" tactics are given then the number of rounds that would hit a target raises even higher than they do already.

This is a true fact that I kind of skipped over, however, it wouldn't effect much as there are still tens of billions of rounds. Plus it doesn't take long for someone to sit down and try to study a weapon system to learn it. You could easily devote a good 4 hours of each day of a weekend to learning the basic operation, loading and firing of an AR-15.

Dinh AaronMk said This is on top of military stockpiles no doubt being in places that would have been nuked in the exchange and damaging them further, trapping them under heavy rubble, or just making the conditions in retrieving them all around unfriendly to the lay scavenger.

This is a very valid point as well, however a number of places in all the games have former military installations that weren't attacked, DC is filled with them. The White Legs were able to obtain a large number of rifles, machine guns and ammunition from a National Guard armory and it was enough to arm the few hundred or so that made up the White Legs.

All valid points either way.
Yeah within a 50-100 years most of the federal government's ammunition reserves would be spent, the stockpiles that we have right now.

However in the situation of Fallout, ammo was being produced at unimaginably high rates.

During WW2, the US produced 12 billion rounds of ammunition per year, this is just various small arms calibers, not anything else.

To compare, the US Army purchases 1.8 billions rounds of ammo per year and used 70 million rounds of a year in Iraq per year as well.

If we go by current stock, in our world, then yes the ammunition runs dry within 50-100 years (Seeing that combat wouldn't be that intense, and that it would take a while for everyone to get it all)

However, even 1 year of ammunition production at WW2 levels, we get enough ammunition, which should last almost 200 years if used at the levels they are in Iraq. Which feel more correct to use than WW2's numbers since battles rarely even go beyond a few thousand.

Ammunition, if you end the world during WW2 production levels, is going to be insanely common even after just two or three years of production, and if it was the only ammo around.
Heated, like super heated bullets would actually be less adept with penetration and would more easily deform on impact with a solid object, it may have better yawing when it impacts soft targets like body tissue or the like.

It'd be much easier, faster, and less intensive to simply make jacketed ammunition for AP duties. A number of 9x19mm rounds exist IRL which use P+ powder loadings and AP rounds, these are famously used by Russian special forces weapons.

However recoil obviously is more, unless you strengthen the weapon's recoil absorbing system, then you will have issues loading normal 9x19mm ammo and can only use your P+ AP ammo.

However this is Fallout so w/e. lol.
