Current I love hunt showdown. nothing like talking shit in prox chat while having a friendly cowboy shootout over a bayou bounty. Now I just need to acquire skill over ungodly amount of hours playing the game

Angus McSix and the Sword of Power is a pretty damn good album. I was hesitant about Thomas Winkler's new band after being booted from Gloryhammer but my worry was unfounded. He is def back one better

WEEK 04: As the first round of secondary plots are coming to an end, let's discuss antagonists. So far there hasn't been anything too serious in the RP but what are your thoughts on antagonists? What makes a good villain for you? Do you like them unhinged, do you like them cold and calculating? Do you prefer an NPC villain or one who is directly portrayed by another player? What's good about being bad?

I typically see one of two types of antagonists/villains. Those that do their ill deeds for money/power (usually power) and those that fight according to their ideology. The latter being more interesting and respectable in my opinion. The reasons they fight vary, but they believe in it so much that they are willing to die over it, in some cases their death is even required. A person or faction that sees an injustice in the world and attempts to solve it using controversial methods.

Particular favorite of mine is the Brotherhood of Nod vs Global Defense Initiative, when you take time to see the two perspectives you can see the faults owned by both factions. "G.D.I. has got to be the good guys right? Gloabal defense is in the name!" Well, as the series progressed the 'globe' has apparently shrinked in size as far as they are concerned. "Well, Nod is the good guys then i guess? I mean someone has to be the good guy." ehhh... It's a matter of perspective. G.D.I basically only cares about population centers in zones not contaminated with a certain alien terra-forming agent and Nod's massive propaganda machine incites the abandoned to violence.
. If you are in a blue-zone you'd prob support G.D.I. If you are in a yellow-zone you prob support the Brotherhood. All that said, I like to play in the Nod faction (subfaction Black Hand if playing KW. "When we are crushing the black hearts of our oppressors, we will find our hands blackened. We cannot cultivate our garden without digging in the dirt.")

*sigh* I wish Westwood studios was never bought out by EA, they really mucked it all up in C&C 4.

fixed it for you, considering you are avian.

Thanks for the vote of confidence buddy.

That's me just back in the door. I'll get started on a post soonish, but it'll probably be tomorrow when it gets posted.

Theoretically, if you continuously travel away from the sun, the sun will never set from your perspective and thus possibly not be dead.

@Utrax, Mind if i ask which country you are moving to?
Gavin O’Brien

Iraq, 2011. Night

Memory recollection

“Wake up Gavin, my turn to take a nap”

“wha… has it been an hour and a half already?’ Gavin said as he slowly rose from his slumber. Most of his days on tour were like this. Long drives in a vehicle specifically designed to gather explosives does not do much to alleviate boredom after the novelty of the idea wears off, at least there is the occasional shotgun to IED. Of course it’s less a shotgun and more a tube filled with pellets on a tripod that you activate at a safe distance, but it is the closest anyone will get to shooting a bomb (and with all limbs intact!). That occasion, unfortunately, is few and far between.

The radio then cackled with life. “I marked an IED around the corner, but be careful the road kinda …” it said as the modified Humvee known as a ‘buffalo’ got stuck. Gavin then grabbed the radio “Kinda late for that Jerry. The buffalo got stuck, someone come over here and tow us out. I’m going to rake the bomb up first though. I’m right next to the marker.” As Gavin pressed a few buttons a large metal claw unfurled from above the vehicle and was guided towards the bomb.

“Hey Gavin…” Tim said, sitting next to Gavin. “Isn’t it odd that nobody is in this village?” As Gavin looked around, he recalls that he never saw anyone else around. While not all the Iraqi’s particularly liked coalition forces, it did seem out of place that there were no signs of life. Not even any livestock, it seems as if the entire village left hours ago...

Present day, night. The Whispering Woods.

“Finally on the outside of Crescent City. Assuming, of course, the storm is not having some anomalous effect on my map” Gavin said holding a device in his hand with several functions. The object had several buttons and dials one of which, indicates it is set to displaying a topographical map of the area dated 17 years ago. “A part called… The Whispering Woods? I don’t hear anything… I guess the wind needs to pick up more or is there a specific area…” I imagine a career dealing with explosives has dampened our hearing…. We hunger. Gavin’s stomach began to grumble soon after. “So it would seem. Well Beithíoch, I’m sure we can find deer or something in this forest.” But deer is so boring, can’t we hunt something more fun. Like a lion or a bear! We should find something that has claws or sharp teeth. “Well, I Don’t think we’ll happen upon a bear or a especially a lion anytime soon. These forests usually come standard with deer. The occasional Bambi. Besides, meat is meat. Some may taste better than others, but I prefer to not eat the ones that scream… Unless they piss me off enough.”

After a few more minutes of walking, Gavin finally saw what he was looking for. Tracks of deer. Two adults and a fawn by the looks of it. A few more minutes and he found a lone buck drinking from a pond. Seems the other two were separated by time. No matter, this one would sustain Gavin for two or so days at least. More if he avoids having a Ríastrad, though unlikely given his history and the crime he hears that plagues the City. Gavin crept slowly from downwind so as to keep his scent hidden, and luckily tall grass kept Gavin hidden from view as well. When Gavin was a few feet from the buck, he leapt forward intending to wrap around the buck as it struggled and thrashed about, trying to break free with such an intensity it would injure lesser skilled hunters. Gavin however, was not a lesser hunter. A matter made much more evident with his hype-gene.

After a brief struggle, lasting merely seconds, Gavin thrusted a hunting knife deep into the chest cavity piercing the buck’s heart. With all his skill, Gavin was able to make a quick kill, lessening the duration of the pain the buck would face if the knife missed the inertial target. Even with creatures that are not human, Gavin prefers to lessen the sorrow. It feels better for his conscious, or so he thinks. He hasn’t felt it in a long time. After a few minutes of feasting, consuming nearly the entire Buck, he left. Leaving the carcass to scavengers, he began walking a ways to find an ideal spot to make his first of several camps. “Now, the fuck are we doing here Beithíoch? What did we sense in this area?”
[@Lord Warith] Almost done with the post. Prob be up in an hour or so if I finish before I need to sleep. otherwise tomorrow. I decided to write a little about Gavin's past in the post and I think i'll write about it infrequently. Just a few paragraphs occasionally to make a post longer or in between plots while also revealing a little backstory.

Also, for everyone else. My character Gavin, has an alternate personality (originating from past trauma) which will be communicating with Gavin fairly frequently. This other personality is the "Beithíoch" part in his alias or title "Fear agus Beithíoch". This translates to Man and Beast in Irish. Usually what Beithíoch says is internal and will be written without the " marks surrounding the text On occasion I may write Beithíoch actually saying words which will have the " marks around him. This means Beithíoch is actually communicating to the outside enviroment. Likewise Gavin will speak with " marks around his text and on occasion have an internal monologue or speak only to Beithíoch when his colored text does not have the " around. In the case of only only one " surrounding text, use your best judgment (feel free to mention OOC or PM me). I usually read over my work a few times so hopefully the issue won't come up.

Regards,
Lurking Shadow
@Lord Wraith A quick question that occured to me as I was writing my first IC post, is the whispering woods populated with animals such as deer or owls and such? or would my character, Gavin, need to venture into the city for food?

This varies from 30 to 60 lumens (bright enough to be noticeable through skin, but not bright enough to read something in the dark)

//DESCRIPTION:
Due to the luminous blood, Gavin opts to cover his entire body. Typically he wears boots, cargo jeans, a pair of work gloves, long-sleeved t-shirt under a hoodie, and a mask covering the face.
While his entire blood has a soft glow, normally, only blood in the superficial veins/arteries will be noticeable.
Gavin is slow to trusting others and tends to reveal little about himself. Preferring solitude, he can on occasion be prodded into working in small groups.

"Sometimes I can still hear the screams."
Gavin was born in central texas to a 5th generation military family. So it was just natural he continued the tradition and enlisted shortly after turning 18. Since Gavin wanted to help his fellow soldiers and preferred small teams, he decided being an Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) technician would be the best fit. After a few years of training he finally got certified and shortly thereafter got deployed overseas.

Nothing really notable happened until his second deployment in the Middle East. In 2011, while clearing a route from Improvised Explosive Device (IEDs, basically bombs made from junk) his team tripped one connected to several tanks buried underneath the road filled with mustard gas. The last thing he remembers before blacking out from the pain was insurgents storming out of a nearby building and gunfire.

When he woke up, he found himself the only one alive, knee-deep in the dead, covered in blood, and some of his bones were dislocated. Gavin then developed nightmares in which he killed the insurgents and even his own squad mates with his bare hands. He later realized, to his horror, that this was actually a repressed memory as he could not come to grips with what he had done. He just went berserk and killed everyone near him and seemed to gain increased strength. That was his first experience to what he calls a ‘Ríastrad’ as it shares similarities to what fabled hero Cú Chulainn could do in Irish Mythology.

Gavin starts to become mentally unstable as he is crushed by what he did and gets honorably discharged before he can hurt anyone else. For the rest of his life until this point, he became more distant to his family and friends as he fears of harming them or anyone else. He opts to live alone at least half a day’s travel from any point of civilization. Over time his Ríastrads progressively got more intense, though due to his distance from population centers, he usually never killed another human. Instead, sating his bloodlust on various animals near him until the Ríastrad passed. Around this time his skin began to show an orange glow along his blood veins, perhaps an Omen of the danger he is becoming.

About a week ago, he started traveling towards Crescent City. Gavin is unsure exactly why he decided to make this spontaneous decision, attributing it to the idea that maybe he could help the progressively worse situation. A way to redeem himself from the atrocities he did before. regardless of the reason, he just feels an urge to go there.

//ABILITIES:
◼ Ríastrad | Gavin undergoes one of three stages of his Riastrad based on how much stress he is undergoing. Inactive, Passive and Active. Inactive is a neutral state in which he is no more exceptional than a particularly hardy mundane. Passive: Gavin gain an extraordinary amount of strength and resilience. He can exert an amount of force equal to roughly fifteen grown men and can shrug off light arms fire.Active: Gavin’s Strength and resilience further increases, but he mentally decays into his base animal instincts and becomes increasingly aggressive to anything nearby. Friend or Foe. He becomes immune to conventional methods of harm and while there is no upper limit to his strength, the maximum he has ever achieved is equal to roughly 150 grown men. I should also note that his blood glows in intensity relative to which stage he is in.

Whenever he has a Ríastrad his body acts like a battery. The amount of strength he has is directly proportional to how much energy he has. A specialized organ in his body produces astatine and distributes it through his blood stream (the amount produced is proportional to how much stress he has). The astatine undergoes radioactive decay and emits energy absorbed by his blood cells for distribution to the musculature system. Due to half-lives of radioactive elements, his body will still absorb energy even after astatine is no longer being produced. Typically Gavin’s Ríastrad will last no more than thirty minutes after combat or other high-stress situations. However, Excess energy can be absorbed by the consumption of sources of energy to extend the duration of his Ríastrad. Particularly notable sources of sustainment would be animals (including humans) and most radioactive materials.

◼ Increased healing | Gavin has greater than normal rate of healing. While by no means can he shrug off death or grow tissue immediately, it is still notable. The rate is tied to which stage he is in and can grow, say, an arm in four to forty-eight hours.

//SKILLS:
◼ Adept with light arms | While by no means a master marksman, he can be effective with nearly any low cal weapon. Particularly handguns.
◼ Survival | Years of living away from civilization has trained him for living off the land, establishing shelter, tracking animals to hunt, and several other skills related to surviving alone.

//LIMITATIONS:
◼ Self-Control | Not only is his strength tied to how much energy he has, it is also tied to how strong he is willing to become. Fearing what he can potentially do, he rarely surrenders control to his animal instincts

//WEAKNESSES:
◼ Mentally Unstable | Past trauma has created an alternate persona he ‘Beithíoch’ or animal in Gaelige. This idenetity assumes control whenever he enters the active state of his Ríastrad. Beithíoch is hyper aggressive and has an insatiable bloodlust and seeks only to kill. Perhaps Beithíoch is a part of Gavin, the part that doesn’t care about mundanes. A part that feels like it is a wolf among sheep and should not abide by their laws. When not in an active state, Beithíoch may still occasionally try to get Gavin to do things he would not do.

◼ Exhaustion | After a Ríastrad, Gavin will need a period of rest before he can have another. This is proportional to the intensity and amount of time spent in a Ríastrad.

You've allowed me to gorge on a new Twilight Princess playthrough guilt-free so we're even.

One of the few good things with 'twilight' in the name. I still shudder when someone mentions Tiberium Twilight. (you want to hear my rant, feel free to PM me.)

Likewise, I got a bit of a reprieve so I can practice Wargame: RD. Steepest learning curve I've ever seen in a game. I mean the one guide I read that is for noobs is 200 pages. On the bright side I feel like an adept tactician (though I have a long ways to improve).

@Lord Wraith I'll be starting on the other CS today and prob finish it tomorrow evening.
