Jacob looked at her, his arms on his knees, "well he did I don't know what his motives are. You can ask the nurse that's been taking care of you, she saw him do it Ellie. My brother never really gave a damn about me he only acted like it so when I turn up half beaten or something they don't blame him for it."

Elliot held her hand out to Jacob, wanting to hold his. She gave him a soft smile, "Your brother cared about you at some point... But everything we've been through in the last three years... changes us... That's why Savannah could kill Marcus... Or how Kyle could do this..." Or how I could want to die, she thought to herself. She ran a hand through her hair and sighed, "We've changed... We've changed lots... It's not always for the worse."

Jacob gives her a weak smile, taking her hand in his. He carefully climbed into the bed beside her, laying on his back looking at the ceiling. "You know sometimes I wonder what our lives would be like if this never happened none of it no robots revolting no resistance and all that."

Elliot thought about it and pursed her lips, "I would have finished school. I'd probably be in some business course... Not realizing how much I would love to be a doctor... We may have never gotten together because I would be too scared to present to you my feelings. I surely would never have kissed you in the middle of a battle. You might never have fallen in love with me at all... I don't like that possibility," She bit her lip, "As much as it all sucks... I like this life... with you..."

She rested her head against his shoulder, "And now... It looks like... Maybe I can think of a future with you..."

Jacob smiled a bit, "me probably finish college make guns for a living, probably never got the chance to say anything to you moving to Houston for that." He looked at her, "still I like this better even if everything is turning to hell I like this life I love being by you can't imagine my life without you by my side."

Elliot squeezed his hand and smiled at him. She looked up at his face and bit her lip, blushing, "Purpose to me..." She laughed a little, "Not right now... But when we are looking a bit better... Purpose to me..."

She shook her head, "I can imagine a life without you but it isn't one that I want to live.... I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Not just as your girlfriend."

Elliot laughed held his hand to her lips. She nodded her head, "I really think that you might. The war has always kept you busy... Might be hard to remember that part... The part of life that happens when things are normal..." She kissed his hand, "I think that if we can survive this... We can survive anything."

She closed her eyes, growing tired, "You'll have to go find a ring though, of course," she teased as she yawned.

Jacob laughed, "first few months after the war it is going to be hard to find a ring, since of course the war so don't expect me to propose in the first few months after the war." He looks up to see the doctor standing in the door way, "the machine is ready," Jacob nodded, "hook me up in here I don't want to move." The doctor nodded and got him hooked up to it.

Elliot smiled at him and laughed a little, "I'm holding you to that. No running off on me after this war is over."

She looked to the doctor when he came in. She grinned when he said that the machine was ready. She was even happier when Jacob asked to be hooked up to it in there, so that he wouldn't have to leave. She watched at the doctor hooked him up and turned on the machine. She watched still as his blood filtered through the tube and into the machine and back through another tube into Jacob. She kissed his cheek before resting her head on his shoulder as best she could, "I love you..."

Jacob looked at her, "I love you to Ellie, but no dying on me during the war or I can't fulfill that promise to you alright." He yawned, damn this thing was making him tired and fast, he slowly closed his eyes he said one thing before he fell asleep, "I'll hold you to that part Ellie," with that he was asleep in a matter of a minute.

Elliot bit her lip and nodded, "I promise..."

Her parents were still dead, she still killed those people, and her sister still wanted nothing to do with her. Now, Jacob was her everything and he was okay. He wasn't dying. He was recovering and she was okay with that. She kissed his cheek again before closing her own eyes, the pain meds taking full effect and fell asleep.

Jacob woke up, in the morning he was still out of it, but he was alright he felt a whole lot better than he did weeks ago. It had been a long time since he had felt, like his old self again. He still heard the machine going, which meant it was still purifying his blood he didn't mind that as long as he could live the rest of his life with Elliot.

Elliot woke up groaning again. Each time she woke up it was like her body remember the pain and pointed it out to her before it disappeared again. She rubbed her eye with the heel of her hand. Besides the pain, she was feeling stronger, which meant that her blood was all accounted for. She looked up at Jacob to see he was awake and smiled, "You look better."

Jacob smiled, "I feel better stronger I feel like the person I was two years ago is rushing back into me again. I'll be glad once I have all my strength back again." He kissed Elliot's forehead as he laid there on his back knowing not to move from that position.

Elliot smiled and closed her eyes as he kissed her head, "Good.... I still feel like crap...." She moved her hand to lift up her shirt. She looked at the large bandage that covered the gun shot wound that was slightly and to the left of her belly button. She shook her head and leaned it back against the pillow, "I don't understand... How you get shot so often and barely react. I feel like this is killing me..."

Jacob laughed, "it's either deal with the pain of a gun shot wound or this." He pulled his shirt down from the shoulder to show her scares from where his nails had broken through his skin. "You always saw me clutching my shoulder hard enough that my knuckles turned white, well this is what happened when the pain meds wore off."

Elliot's eyes widened at the scar and looked at him, "Are you trying to scare me? Because...." She looked up at her bag of meds that dripped into her through an IV. She was glad to see that it was partially full, "It's not funny.... It is... Quite scary in fact."

She looked up at the ceiling thinking about how he would sit there clutching his shoulder as she ran and got him more meds or they tried to wean him off of them. She bit her lip she didn't like how it look and to know that he clutched his shoulder hard enough to leave scars... only scared her more.

He pulled his shirt back up, "and no you won't run out of pain meds as long as you inform them a week ahead of time before you run out, I was the one that always forgot about it, so no I'm not trying to scare you Ellie I'm sooty I even showed you people react differently to the pain."

I'm supposed to be tending to your wounds on lying bed next to you just as bad. And knowing that it hurt you this bad.... Despite the fact that I've never really seen you cry out in pain... That's what scares me..." She kissed his neck, "I guess the scars are kind of... sexy...''
