I'm going with the canon versions of both, but we won't be likely to run into them often, if at all. The plot idea is that we've all just come off the frontlines, or gotten away from a patrol if you choose to run the life of a smuggler, and are going about your off duty business when the Sith break through the frontlines and attack the base you're all at. Ultimately, it culminates in our own big fight while the major KOTOR characters are doing their own thing.

If I may suggest, it might be best to have the story take place in a city of some sort to allow for a wider variety of characters, rather than just soldiers and smugglers.
