Fated

The Westlands had once been a peaceful kingdom. For thousands of years it had grown with prosperity. But such a utopia cannot last for long. As the years dragged by, greed grew in the hearts of those closest to the royal family. The queen's brother was one with such a heart. He conceived a plan of betrayal and deceit, for simply killing the king would not be enough to give him the throne - as his subjects would then most certainly rise up against him. No, he could not kill the old king just yet. That fateful night of his uncle's betrayal forever changed the young crown prince's life. Not only did he witness his mother's murder, but he was framed for the very act. Beloved by his people, they could not bring themselves to call for his execution, so the young prince was stripped of his title and exiled from his home.

Years have passed since then and the king has grown old and ill. With the king upon his deathbed, the kingdom believes that their next king will be late queen's brother. But with his last breath, the King announces a challenge. The one to find and return a legendary artifact, the Thief of Time, to the kingdom will be crowned king. Word of the challenge has spread far and wide as rogues to royals hunt for the legendary item. So it makes sense that such words have reached the exiled prince's ears. After all, he was raised on the stories of the Thief of Time - an object that is supposed to have come from the far future. He plans to take on the challenge in order to win back the kingdom that was stolen from him and to take his vengeance upon those that are responsible for his mother's death.

But the problem that none of the contestants foresee is that the Thief of Time is not a legendary artifact, but a young woman. She was raised in the High City, a desolate city in the air. It is a place where kindness doesn't survive. It is a place controlled by a notorious group called the Seven Sins. An orphan, like so many, she must figure out by herself how to survive. The best mercenaries and assassins come from the High City; it’s the only possible way to get out of the city and back to the ground below. She however turns to the path of a thief. But in a place so poor, the only things of value belong to the Seven Sins. However, to steal from the Seven Sins is punishable by death. But not all goes as planned and the Seven Sins newest execution machine malfunctions, sending the thief back into the past - specifically the outskirts of a small village.

In such a small village, not much happens. And this simplicity is about to drive one young maiden insane. A young maiden who is strong willed and dreams of adventure finds her opportunity of escape when she witnesses a woman fall out of the sky. She is the first to meet this strange woman from the future. While she may find it difficult to believe the stranger's stories or to believe what she herself has witnessed, she offers to help the thief find a way home.

However, not only is an exiled prince interesting in finding these two girls, but so is the crown prince’s uncle – the current Regent of the land. He has sent out an assassin to find the thief and kill anyone who gets in the way.

But what happens when love sparks in the most unlikely circumstances.

Thief of Time
Phoenix / "Nix"

As a child of the High City, Phoenix has memories of her mother that are few and far between. For at a young age, she was abandoned, left on the streets as an orphan - a simple street rat. Instinct kept her alive, as did her skills of observation. She watched others, learned about what she had to do and what she shouldn't do on the streets. She learned to kill and protect her life. However, her greatest skill was theft. As she grew older, she interacted more with those around her - and eventually they gave her the name of Phoenix after she survived an incident that should have taken her life.
Nix, as she is most often called, aspires to one day visit the world below and live a life far more grander than the streets. And so she devised a plan, honed her skills, and eventually she made the Seven Sins her target. For while she could not fight her way down to the lower worlds, perhaps she could buy her way there. The first time in and out of the Capitol was a success. The second time, Nix was not blessed with such luck. It was not long before her execution was set. However, machines are finicky things for just one crossed wire might mean the difference between disintegration and time travel.
It should be noted that people of the High City are a bit more skilled than those in the lower worlds. Phoenix, for example, as quicken healing abilities, agility that aids in scaling walls, and has the ability to withstand great falls as well as intense heat. But there are always limits - and while she is strong there are many in the High City far stronger than she is.

Exiled Prince
Jaxon Edward Hargreaves
aka Jaxon Rivers

The only child to the King Edward and Queen Isabel, Jaxon lived in luxury. As long as he stayed within the castle walls and attended his studies, he was able to do whatever he pleased. He grew fond of pulling pranks on the maids and watching the knights practicing in the courtyard. It was a simple life, and he never really knew just how well he had it.
Sadly, he was unaware of the plot against his family, a plot created by his uncle. Witness to his mother’s murder, all became worse when the evidence landed upon him. But the people who believed in the young prince did not want him dead – so instead he was branded and exiled from his home.
Left on his own, he eventually found refuge in the home of a farmer who seemed to not care about Jaxon’s past. And this is how the prince has lived – as a commoner left to live out his life slaving in the sun’s heat.

Here they are. Sorry it took me long.

Assassin
Hunter Pyne

His first memory was not of a mother's lullaby or a father's gentle guidance, but drab gray walls and strict instructions from a middle aged man who he later learned was Sir Gerrad Mooton, Lord of Rotherham and Commander of the Fifth Imperial Company. He was known by most as a noble knight, but to the King and his closest advisors, Sir Gerrad Mooton was something else, for he was the head of a subtle group whose sole purpose was to obey and eliminate without question. With the knight's superior skills in combat and rather questionable disciplinary means, he was able to place under his control five of the deadliest men who ever walked the Westlands.

Of the five, only Hunter was of questionable origins. Sir Gerrad told him that he was a bastard, that his mother was a maid and his father was a Barron. Neither of his parents wanted him so Sir Gerrad took him to give him a life that would serve the kingdom. He never mentioned the involvement of the King in how Hunter ended up in the knight's fortress, nor was there an explanation about the mark that ran from the left side of his lower back to his shoulder. Hunter just learned to accept that he would never get any answers. Although the youngest, he was always better than the others. He was quick to learn and seemed to thirst to be the best in everything -- from gambling, to drinking, to snapping a person's neck bare-handed.

He was never a serious kind of person, very much unlike those who took the same path as he did. Hunter almost always seemed carefree, but perhaps it was just his cover, because behind the carefree mask was a careful predator. He never hesitated to follow the orders of his superiors, never paused to think about the innocent lives he was about to end. He was the best of Gerrad's boys that way.

Young Maiden
Lilliana Ironsmith

Liliana was the only girl in a family with seven sons. She was the sixth child, meaning two more younger brothers came after her. That being said, she had always fought for what she thought was hers. Her father was an Earl's third son and her mother a wealthy merchant's daughter. Although they lived a life of semi-luxury, her mother drilled in her the duties of a woman. With his brothers being themselves - boys - she was expected to help in the "womanly" duties in keeping the house. She was a woman, her mother would always tell her, she should learn to make a home, should learn to submit to her future husband, and should always be patient with her brothers.

Lilliana was none of that. It might be her brothers' influence, but the girl had a stubborn streak in her. She preferred secretly joining her older brothers play with wooden swords, even train with them with steel. Her father would tolerate her, her brothers more so, but her mother strongly disapproved. What she wanted to be was not a wife to some rich and spoiled man, but an independent woman who could carry herself and her sword. A life of adventure was what she had always dreamed of, and home had become a prison for her.

Your character sheets look great!

So would we like the prince and assassin to sort of meet up and work together or... shall we focus on the girls meeting and then separately bring in the boys?

Thanks! I'm glad you liked them :) Sorry for the giant picture.

We can have 2 separate scenarios, but they don't necessarily have to follow the same time frame until they are all about to meet. Will the price reveal his identity? I'm trying to think of a reason why the assassin and the prince would work together.

The prince still goes by his given first name. However, to avoid criticism he chose adopted a new last name (Rivers) and avoids mentioning his past. So not too secretive but enough so... if that makes sense.

As for why the assassin and prince would work together, that does prove to be difficult. The assassin's reasoning may be that it would be easier to find the thief if he teams up with someone and then just later kill them -- if that's the type of man he is. However the prince wouldn't have the same reasoning. Unless he suspects the assassin for having connections to the palace. And the prince would rather team up and keep an eye on the assassin. Or some other idea if you can think of something. :)

Yup. I agree with that. The assassin will pose as an ambitious nobleman's son, but the prince will know that he's lying. Maybe the assassin will also recognize the prince. Maybe what they have is a silent agreement between them that they will keep each other's secret as long as the other one is still useful. So they work together, but secretly doesn't trust each other.

Well that took longer than I thought it would, and hopefully it isn't too terrible. But I finally got the intro post to both of my characters up. Sorry for the wait.
