Chuckling softly, Hayley grinned and replied, "Psychos are good at spotting their own kind, supposedly. At least he can use what brain cells he has for something. We should get some doggie snacks for him on our way home." The blonde relished the chance she had at making fun of Vincent, still pissed off at him after nearly being killed in the heat of the moment when they first met. "That aside, just don't let him go after the nearest boobs he could see."

Isaac chuckles and replies, "Don't worry, I won't let him run off." Besides, Vincent says, I have enough self-control to--Ooh, check those out! After giving Vincent a mental sock to the stomach, Isaac turns to Hayley and says, "Yeah, he won't be a problem as long as I'm around." After a while, Isaac and Hayley arrive at the small deli and step in. The old lady at the counter looks up and smiles. "Oh, Isaac, it's been awhile!" she says. Turning to Hayley, she then says, "You must be the reason he hasn't come by, lately. Well, I'm glad he seems to have finally found a nice girl to be with."

Try as she might, Hayley was quickly reduced to a stammering bag of flesh under the old lady's kind gaze. "H-Hello... Sorry about that..." she said to her, hoping to make a decent first impression. The blonde tried to push away her skittishness, but found herself unable to do much and timidly pushed Isaac in front of her. What the fuck am I doing now?! She's just a nice deli owner, so why am I acting as if I'm talking to a fucking grand jury?! she thought with no small amount of annoyance. "Erm, Isaac... You know her better than I do, so..."

"Oh, she's shy, I see," the old lady says with a kind smile, making Isaac chuckle. "She isn't normally like this," he says, reaching behind him to wrap his arm around Hayley and bring her back into the old lady's view. The old woman looks at Hayley for a few moments before saying, "Well, a friend of Isaac's is always welcome here, especially if she's more than a friend, if my old eyes aren't failing me, yet." Isaac chuckles again, flushing lightly, while Vincent wonders at her powers of perception. In an attempt to help Hayley avoid any potential, yet unintentional, embarrassment, he says, "Actually, we didn't come here to just chat. The two of us were wondering if you needed a hand or two around here." The old lady adopts a thoughtful look before saying, "I'm not sure. I'll have to check with my husband. If you want, I can call you when I find out."

Not wanting to embarrass Isaac any further, Hayley braced herself to clear her mind and stepped up, standing beside her new boyfriend. "Thank you so much. That's more than what we could ask for," she replied to the old lady with a smile, her eyes containing a good measure of cautiousness cultivated by harsh years of street life. She didn't openly trust anyone with a kind smile, but her relationship with Isaac seemed to have lend her a good credence to the blonde. "I'll be honest: I'm not asking for anything other than a little money to feed myself and Isaac. Let's just say I didn't have the opportunity to pursue higher education, as much as I'd love to do so."

The old lady nods and says, "I understand. I have a couple of grandchildren who weren't able to finish high school, let alone college. But, they're doing just fine as they are, which makes me certain you'll be fine, too." Then, she chuckles and says, "Oh, where are my manners? I've forgotten to introduce myself. I'm Irene Harkson and my husband is Andrew. I'll talk to him about getting you two a job here. And just to make sure you two didn't come all the way out here for nothing, would you like anything to eat? I'll even put it on the house." Isaac looks down at Hayley and asks, "What do you wanna do? I'm still good after that sandwich earlier, but I think I could eat a bit."

Hayley was clearly reluctant and suspicious about the intention behind Irene's charitable gesture, but a look into Isaac's eyes helped convince herself that the old lady meant them no harm. "If that's okay with you," she replied, sounding surprised and uncertain. Something at the back of her mind told her that it was a very bad idea to let her guard down, but a tiny part of her that had been brought to the surface by the love and care she experienced under Isaac gently nudged her to soften her pessimism and survival-first point of view. "You really don't have to do that though."

"Oh, it's no trouble, dear," Irene reassures Hayley with a smile as she leads the two of them to a booth. "We're getting ready for the dinner rush, anyway, so an extra bit of food is no problem to make." Once Isaac and Hayley were seated, Irene took their orders and disappeared into the kitchen behind the main counter. Isaac turns to Hayley and, unable to help himself, says, "You know, seeing that shy side of yours was a nice surprise. It just reaffirms my belief that you're adorable."

"Don't. Push. It," Hayley barked under her breath, gritting her teeth in embarrassment. "That's just embarrassing..." Looking around uneasily, she had not once dropped her guard, even if she wanted to. She became nervous and tense as she cautiously eyed the incoming patrons, barely avoiding scrutiny by acting as if she was merely glancing at them. She acted like a predator inside a cage which was simply how she had lived thus far. "I don't like it here... It's crowded and there's nothing keeping them away from me," she muttered, understanding how outlandish she was acting right now.

While waiting for Irene to return with their food, Isaac sadly watched as Hayley grew more and more tense with everyone who arrived. After hearing her mention that there was nothing keeping them from her, Isaac rose to his feet, only to slide back into the booth at her side. Taking her hand, he says, "That's not true. I'm here. If anyone comes over to hurt you, I'll put them down in the blink of an eye." Smooth, Vincent says. I'm honestly impressed, right now. Smiling at Hayley, he adds, "After all, even though I know you could do so yourself, it's my job, both as a friend and as your boyfriend, to keep you safe. And that's a job I'm happy to do."

Flattered and comforted by Isaac's protective response, Hayley began to calm down as the patrons settled in. She slowly began to work on ignoring them even as they began to notice their presence, throwing glaces especially towards her. "Sorry about that. I'm just not used to being amongst the crowd outside of the fighting cage. It's unsettling," she replied and leaned back against her chair. "That aside, I still don't feel comfortable around people I don't know, but I guess that's what you get for living like a wild animal for years on end."

Isaac smiles softly and wraps his arm around Hayley. Pulling her close, he says, "That's alright. You'll get used to it. Believe it or not, I was exactly like you when I woke up without any memories. In fact, I think I was even worse, considering the fact I had to put up with Vincent. I was downright terrified of myself, let alone others. But, eventually, I realized that if I kept living like that, nothing would change. So, I started to be less afraid of everyone, but still managed to keep my guard up." Just then, Irene appears with their food and smiles, seeing that Isaac had changed seats. Setting the food down, she says, "Just let me know if you need anything else." She then turns around and starts taking other people's orders.

Hayley caught the scent of food and couldn't help but feel her hunger strike back with vengeance. "Yeah, you're right... For now, let's just enjoy what we could have, just the two of us..." she shyly said, looking away from him momentarily before digging into the food. "Wow, they're good. No wonder this place is packed with people," she remarked with genuine pleasure, the delicious food slowly alleviating her anxiety.

Isaac smiles and turns to his food. Before he can start eating, he hears Hayley comment on how good it was and says, "That's one reason I always come here. I honestly think they make the best food in the--" Before he could finish his sentence, however, someone came into the diner, the sight of whom made Isaac inexplicably forget what he was saying as a dull throb begins to pulse through his head. At the door was a tall, black-haired man in a white t-shirt, jeans and sandals. Behind his wire-frame glasses, a pair of intelligent, deep blue eyes look around the room before settling on Isaac. Then, the unexpected happens: The man's face breaks out into a wide, friendly grin as he walks over to Isaac and Hayley's booth and settles down in the seat across from them. "Hey, Isaac!" the man says. "Long time no see, huh? And who's this? Your new girlfriend? I tell ya, she's about as cute as Sarah was!"

Hayley quickly turned her sight to the male stranger, her hair standing on its end. Something about the man made her feel alert, but it wasn't something that came out of malevolence, so she couldn't help but be confused. She felt a stirring sensation inside her chest, no doubt the 'other her' sensing his presence as well. "Uh, who are you?" she bluntly asked, not knowing who he was other than the fact that he seemed to recognize Isaac. Turning to the man, she frowned when she saw him being in pain. "Hey, Isaac, are you okay?" she asked, her body language slowly becoming anxious and skittish once again as the man approached her personal space.

The entire time the man spoke and when Hayley asked if he was alright, Isaac wasn't able to answer. The dull throb in his head quickly grew to a lancing pain, contorting his face into a grimace of pain as he clutched at his head. What's going on? Isaac wonders through the pain. I don't know, Vincent says. [/i]Let's just get away for now and figure it out--[/i] "Your memories are trying to surface," the man suddenly says, briefly pulling Isaac out of his misery and making him lift his eyes to his. The man was looking at him with his piercing eyes as he adds, "I figured it'd happen when someone from your past reappeared. Why not make it the person who helped you wipe your memory in the first place?"

Hayley went from natural apprehension to heightened alertness. She rose from her seat and confronted the man close by. "Listen, I don't know what your problem is and what's the deal with you and his memory," she paused, feeling something chilly slip out of her mouth. A faint black mist seeped out, her uncontrollable powers threatening to burst. "I won't stand by knowing all this. Either spit it out or I'll beat it out of you," she hissed.

The man watched with no small amount of amusement as Hayley rose halfway to her feet and threatened him, black mist coming from her mouth. Before he says anything, Irene appears, carrying his drink, which she sets down in front of him. "Thanks, Irene," he says, to which she nods and walks away. Taking his time, the man sips his drink before saying, "You know, it's generally not a good idea to threaten someone who could fight you with his arms and legs tied back while wearing a blindfold and gag." Fixing his eyes onto Hayley's, he adds, "It'd be a good idea to sit back down. You might cause a panic, otherwise."

Gritting her teeth, Hayley looked around the crowded deli and snarled at the man as she returned to her seat, furious and itching to fight him despite his warnings. "You have your food now, so scram and leave us be!" she hissed at him, keeping a close watch on Isaac as he mulled over with his headache, or what seemed to be one anyway. "Who the hell are you anyway? What's your connection to Isaac and his memories?" she asked, openly willing to disregard her own life to get some answers.

The man sips his drink before saying, "My name is Sean Anderson. I live somewhat nearby, so I come here from time to time for lunch. And don't worry, I don't mean either of you any harm. Trust me, if I wanted to kill you, you'd be dead at least a thousand times over, by now." Irene then reappears with Sean's usual order: five helpings of their large sub sandwiches. "Thanks, Irene," he says. Irene smiles and sees Isaac in pain. "Is he alright?" she asks, to which Sean responds, "Yeah, he's fine. Just a migraine." Irene clicks her tongue sympathetically and disappears once more. Turning back to Hayley, he then says, "Anyway, that's enough for now. If you really want answers, you'll follow me to my place after I'm finished eating. You never know who might be listening."
