After testing the new technology, Area 51 finds that it is based on Go'auld technology. Aegis Inc. comes under investigation, and it is discovered that the CEO is actually a minor Go'auld named Hephaestus. When the SGC tries to interfere, he goes public with information about aliens, the fact that his tech is alien in origin, and the fact that he's an alien. The countries of the world have no choice but to go public with what they know.
Civilians start using this tech to travel to other worlds and, due to public outcry over the government coverup, the Star Gate is moved to a neutral space station in orbit above Earth. Other space stations are built to facilitate ring teleportation between Earth's major cities. New colonies are started on other worlds using ships and the Stargate.
