Hey there! Some of you may know me already, but for those that don't, I'm datadogie. As the title asks, has anyone read the novel 'Ready Player One'?
Well, I have, and I find the book to be quite an adventure. My second question to you is, do any of you want to create a 1x1 RP based around this fantastic book? I believe we could create an amazing RP together, not just from the competition within the book itself, but in other things. There are many things to do in the OASIS.
Oh, so you haven't read the book? Well, here is my brief summary:
In datadogie-tongue: Life has gone bad, overpopulation, all that jazz. War, bandits roaming areas between cities, all that fun and rainbows. Oh, you wanted a beautiful rainbow? Too bad. If there even was one, it'd be great if you could actually see past all the stacks of trailers that serve as housing.
Though, that is where the OASIS comes in. The OASIS is like, say, Oculus Rift, or some other VR device. However, the OASIS was developed by James Halliday. This device along with millions of others has created the biggest MMORPG of all time. However, it's much more than an MMORPG. You put on the goggles, you put on the gloves, and it takes you to a completely new place. Graphics that are ultra-realistic, walking around, ect. However, it isn't just you there. Pretty much every OASIS user is there. There isn't multiple servers, just one massive one that holds billions of players with literally zero lag. You can get different things, like suits that can simulate feelings, etc. OASIS has grown so large that even the governments use it for school. Sometimes, schools give you an OASIS console, and you can keep it as long as you attend school.
Still not understanding? Let's just put this the simplest way I can: Real life: Mess, war, terrorism, smog, rubbish. OASIS: Magic, artifacts, sci-fi, fun, beauty, EVERYTHING.
Oh, that's one thing I forgot to mention. In the OASIS, there is magic, there are pets, everything. You can level up to level 99, which is the max. You can get ships, buy your very own fortress or even your own planet, though this costs A LOT. You die, and you reset back to level 1 with nothing but... Nothing.
Onto the main plot of the actual book: The Easter egg James Halliday, one of the two developers of the OASIS, finally passed away. He left all of his fortunes behind, however, for one OASIS user to claim. However, that user had to complete a lot of puzzles to find out how to get these. Mr Halliday loved Easter Eggs, and so he left his one easter egg in the OASIS for a user to find. However, this isn't as easy as, "Oh, let's do some Halo 2 Jumping or sword flying". OASIS users have been searching for this easter egg for YEARS. These people were named 'Gunters', a pick on the term "easter egg hunters". Halliday left a message with a clue to get to this egg. He had been a popular fan of the eighties, the nineties, and those times where there were coin-op games like pacman.
ROUNDOFF: In real life, mess, wars, etc. In OASIS, fun, rainbows, PvP, etc. Developer dies, leaves fortunes for people to find out how to get through an easter egg he left in the game. People hunting for egg, very hard, 5 years, etc.
Yeah, that wasn't so brief.
