Patiently Bidder waited, seated in a high back chair with her fingers steepled together and her elbows resting atop her desk and a heap of papers. Coolly she surveyed the talent gathered before her, about twenty people total in the dark room she called her office. Hm. A few promising looking prospects here and there she supposed, but not many.

Jenga stayed towards the back. not because he was shy or being considerate of those shorter then him, it was simply because he was tired and leaning against the wall felt good on his back. The surface was cool to the touch, a reprieve in the hot summer.
They had been standing around for at least 45 minutes now, he figured. Having been ushered in awhile ago by one of the Bidder's minions to stand here in front of her in a thick uncomfortable silence. If there hadn't been a promise of good pay, Jenga might have left by now no matter how good a recommendation from the Bidder could look. He had better things to do then just hang around in some platinum blonde chick's office all day!
Fidgeting uncomfortably he folded his arms across his chest, resting his chin on his shoulder and turning his eyes up to the ceiling, tracking the outlines of the air ducts and support rafters out of boredom.

Roman was standing in the corner opposite of Jenga, and had positioned herself just so, that she would be able to observe the entire room. She didn't like the uncertainty in the room, and she definitely didn't like the large group of people. Thieves, thugs, swindlers, and all manner of socially detestable ilk were amassed in the too-small space, and she didn't like it. She didn't deny that she wasn't much better than they, but she still didn't like them. So she made sure she could keep watchful eye on every one of them.

At last the Bidder spoke up, leaning back in her chair and resting her palms on the sheet of paper covered in ink before her. Her voice was cool and clipped, just like everything else about her, and betrayed age that did not show in her face.
"Glad you all found the place. That at least tells me that not all of you are, incompetent." Her eyes darted over each individual in turn, studying. Some of them she knew and had employed before, but there were plenty of fresh faces. She skimmed over Jenga, knowing him from other recommendations and for a moment letting her attention rest on the skinny figure off in the corner, a small looking boy. That had to be Roman, right she had heard of him as well.
"That's a good start."

Jenga had been about to doze off when the Bidder started talking, straightening up in surprise and looking her way with raised eyebrows.

Roman returned the hard stare that the Bidder gave her, not once betraying any sign of her thoughts currently, which were that she didn't get the best first impression from her potentially new employer. But she decided to stick out and see what would happen.

She rose to her feet then, stepping around the desk and further into the room amongst the possible recruits, hands clasped behind her back as she looked them over.
"If you are here then I presume you know what I'm looking for. One pilot, a set of muscle, one picker, and at least one skimmer." She continued, circling them at the same slow steady pace she had been using from the start, clearly not in a rush at all. "You also know, I hope, that I never higher off the street. YOu will have an audition and I will choose my crew out of those that manage to not bungle it."

"An audition? What is this a highschool musical?" Sighed Jenga tiredly, rubbing an eye with the heel of his hand. The Bidder passed in front of him then, her jaw twitching briefly as if in annoyance before she moved on.

Roman frowned slightly, but she didn't say anything. It made sense to her, it was a good way to sort out the undesireable ones, but it was still a bit of a pain, and slightly laughable. She watched to see what the reaction would be like. Maybe some of the less serious ones would just book it right now.

And a few looked like doing just that, shifting their weight from foot to foot and shooting furtive glances about the room. Satisfied that that seemed to have gotten their attention, Bidder beckoned to her assistant who hurried forward and began passing out a single sheet of paper to each of the candidates.
"Each of you will be receiving a test on this form." She explained, returning to her seat. "Some of you will have the same test. If you complete them before the end of tomorrow, you're in. Any questions?"

"So, we have to pull a job before we get paid? Without any guarantee of payment?" Asked Jenga with a frown, having read his sheet already and flipping it over as if to look for directions. "I don't do that, I don't do charity work,"

Roman looked over her sheet of paper. It didn't seem...too bad...She supposed she could rough it for a day with a small group if it meant that the bigger job was going to pay well if she finished this one. That other guy, though. He was quite a stinker, wasn't he? People like him irk her a little bit. Always have something annoyingly negative to say...Not that she was any better, she reasoned.

Bidder gave Jenga a smile that held no warmth or amusement, cold eyes set above it. "IT is not charity. It is an audition. You'll be competing against those who have the same task as you. The winner will move on. The loser," She shrugged, clearly meaning they would be taken out of the running.

Jenga hesitated at that, looking back down at his task and over at the others. He wondered which one had the same job as he did, stealing rather embarrassing letters from a Basin Marshall.

Grim did not share the same task as Jenga, though he did see that the short boy-child's paper was the same, which meant that the two of them would be competing against each other. What was his name again? Keenan Roman. He'd gotten himself a little bit of infamy as a fairly skilled thief. And the other one that he saw with the same paper, for Grim had been covertly migrating around the room with the minglers; a glance here, a look over the shoulder there, to see what all the tasks were, and who had what task. In any event, he knew Jenga to be a thief of more renown than most.

Roman eyed the weird-looking guy with the braid from her corner as he casually sidled around, and had given him a warning scowl when he'd come too close to her. She didn't like him at all. He was...too weird. She quickly read her task. Petty thievery job? No problem. She could have those letters within half the time at most.

"Well. You can go now." Bidder said a bit impatiently, waving with one hand as if to dismiss them all.

Jenga hummed to himself thoughtfully, neatly folding the bit of paper in two before tucking it away and turning towards the door with the crowd.

Roman rubbed her chin with one finger thoughtfully as she filed out with the rest of them. She decided not to waste time over it and to get it done as quickly as possible, so she decided to start right away.

Grim, on the other hand, wasn't too worried about his ability to get his job done, even with an opponent or two, and decided to take his time on it. He'd get around to it when he was...prepared. He smirked at the thought.

Terra stood beside the door, arms folded over her chest and back to the door frame as she watched each of the potential recruits file out past her. Her team would be made up of these people, she thought to herself grimly. Wonderful.

Jenga tucked his thumbs into his belt, humming to himself as he started out the door past the glaring girl and out into the hall. He had no idea who his opponent would be, but he didn't particularly care. Knowing their name wouldn't do him any good, focus would be his best offense.

Grim paused on his way out, allowing others to pass him as he observed with potential interest at what had just caught his attention. It was the woman standing at the door. Or rather, the shiny knife that she had. He rather liked it. He gave her a smirk before continuing on.

Roman, once having left the building, immediately made her way through the Green, with the full intention of making her way to the Marshall's place of residence. She'd start looking there.

Noticing Rat tail's look, that's what terra had decided to call him in her head, she blinked flatly at the man and allowed one finger to run the length of her knife hilt almost lovingly. Then returned her attention to the group at large.

Jenga pulled on his long coat once outside, pushing up his sleeves and cracking his fingers before starting on his way out of the Green District and into the Gold. the Districts went from Green, to Gold, to Grey, to White. White housed nobility, grey housed Marshalls and soldiers, barracks, and Gold housed the civilians that didn't dare move to the Green. the Green was just, the green. Jenga rather liked it here in the Green District, but always enjoyed a walk through the others. And that's what it would take to get to Grey.

It was right when Roman snuck her way into the Gold Dostrict that he first got the uncertain feeling in her stomach. Someone was following her, she knew it. She didn't know who it was, or where they were, or even if whoever it was actually intentionally meant to follow her. She ducked casually around a corner, then peered out at the sparse people milling about the streets, to see if she could locate whoever it was. For all she knew, this whole job offer could have been a setup, and maybe that woman sent the authorities after them all. Or maybe it was her opponent on this job.
She didn't know.

Meanwhile, Grim sauntered along allyways, looking around for seemingly no apparent reason. He stopped at a tallish house and looked it over, as if in appraisal. There was no one around. He started climbing.

Jenga muttered to himself, going on about how childish this was and how annoying and how he could be doing so many other things at the moment but noooo he was fetching gooey love letters for the precious Bidder. Snorting he darted past a checkpoint into the Gold District through a small passage, so narrow it was barely even an alley way. Once on the other side he started for the far end at a swift jog. The Districts were all huge, it would easily be nightfall by the time he reached Grey.

There, she spotted him. Hah! It was the one called Jenga. So he was her opponent? She frowned. Quickly she moved off again. She wasn't about to let some snobby punk beat her to it. He probably didn't even need the real job in the first place.

As he ran Jenga checked the contents of his rope sling bag, bringing it about to his chest so he could search through it as he dodged pedestrians and obstacles. Satisfied all was there, he shrugged it back into place and took a side street so he would be hidden from view of the more populated streets.

The day went by pretty swiftly, and without much conflict or any interesting events. And finally, as the angry red sun began to set over the Basin, Jenga found himself standing infront of the checkpoint leading into the Grey District.

Roman wasn't far behind the man, she was used to running for hours on end. It's what kept her from the Marshalls. Now she's willingly coming to them. Ironic.
She made a point not to be noticed, especially not by Narcissus, as she'd decided to call him in her head. She didn't know what would happen if he found her following him. For all she knew, if he was desperate for the promise of credits, he might even kill her for this. And she had no intention of letting that happen.
