While Hayley's mind was being 'programmed', as her other self consistently said, a part of her subconscious began to wander around aimlessly, sinking into a black-and-white dreamland. Opening her eyes to nothing but black and white forest, much like an old silent movie, she walked around like a lost child, seemingly without any purpose. The sky and the ground were as dark as the night, pitch black and void of color, and the only thing keeping her from stumbling over the trunks, branches and rocks was the white grass that was scattered along her way. The trees themselves were nothing but haunting, empty husks, barren and bearing no life within their pale grey shell. From a far distance, she heard what sounded like a crying child, so she rushed to the only audible clue she had, hoping for an answer.
By the time she had arrived at the location where the crying sound presumably came from, she found herself unable to look at much of her surrounding due to the sheer darkness covering the area. She could hear the child crying in front of her and was about to rush towards her, but then she noticed that the cries sounded familiar. Before she could act on it, she heard a growl coming from in front of her, along with the noise of torn flesh from bones. A wild predator she couldn't see had arrived ahead of her and was in the process of devouring something with the crying child not too far away, so she had assumed that she had disturbed the beast's meal. Seemingly taking advantage of the distracted predator, the crying child could be heard fleeing, judging from the stomping of dirt and grass, but as she finally had a look of the crying child, her eyes went wild when she saw a fledged crow chick, standing as tall as herself, giving out the human-like cries she had heard. The beast growled again behind the crying crow chick and, in the process, pushed aside its meal. A giant crow head, twice the size of the chick's head and completely severed from its body, rolled into her view, stunning her into silence. Without warning, the beast leaped from the shadow right into her very eyes.
The last thing Hayley experienced before her abrupt awakening into the dawn was the beast's flashing teeth and fangs.
Followed by the chick's mysterious human-like, but inaudible cries.
