The first thing Liyam could remember was bliss. The utter calm of a dreamless sleep, where the boundary between mind and matter was blurred. His mind was mostly empty, devoid of all memories except one: his name. The one thing that penetrating this silence.

And then he woke up

At first Liyam was sure he was trapped in a furnace, as the raging heat suggested. He winced in pain, his skin red. Any part of him exposed to open air was blistering. Vertigo and the temperature made it extremely difficult to think, yet somehow Liyam managed.

He scanned the area, his senses taking in as much of his surroundings as possible. The walls of this windowless room were made of a shiny metal. He was strapped to one of the storage cases that dotted the room. The room hummed, as if from a large engine. He somehow knew that it was the cargo hold to a ship. Behind him was another person, their backs pressed together, strapped by the wrists. Liyam could feel her long hair stick to the back of his neck. He felt her heaving breath. She was awake.

"Welcome to the party," he made an effort to laugh, but it only caused him pain, "are you ready to get out of here?"

Reina didn't like this emptiness. Like a reformatted hard drive, her brain's archives filled with nothing except zeros, stretching in orderly blocks off into the distance. All she knew was a sequence of zeros and ones that spelled out her name. And the fact that she was visualizing all of this as a computer would... how strange.

She coughed, which seemingly drove needles through her whole body, and tried to sit up, but found that she could only move a bit. Looking down told her that her hands were tied to... someone else. Now that she thought about it, she could feel his back (She assumed it was a male, judging by the size of his hands and the fact that her head only seemed to come up to the nape of his neck.) Also now that she thought about it, she realized that her whole body felt like it was on fire and her skin was red and starting to blister. She looked around, finally taking in the utilitarian room she was in. It seemed to be a cargo hold, like one would find on your average star cruiser... Wait, how did she know this? and why was she here, tied to a strange person?

Her words reflected her confusion. "Who are you? Why are we here?...Why are we tied together...? Is this some kind of trick? Or... what? Also, I think my name is Reina and I think we're on a starship but I don't know how I know this..."

"There's no time," Liyam grimaced, "We've got to get out of here."
Then had a thought. The only thing holding him back was Reina; he wasn't connected to anything else. Liyam stood, pulling their arms into a weird position, tightening the cuffs. It stung a little, but that was nothing compared to the scorching heat. He could now look over his shoulder, looking at his co-captive. She had flowing brown hair and fair skin, if they weren't trapped in an inferno, Liyam could've thought she was pretty.
"There's a metal door ahead of me, about 15 feet away," he coughed, wincing at the heat, "Stand up. We should be able to reach the door and get out of here if we work together."

Reina stood as the man she was cuffed to did -- she had to, lest her shoulders get twisted out of their sockets. She did her best to look over her shoulder to see him. What little she could see brought her a bit of confidence -- he was tall and muscular, had a look about him that just oozed confidence. Plus he'd come up with a bit of a plan already.

She shuffled along behind him, doing her best to not trip or step on his feet. It definitely would have been better if she could see where they were going, but... she'd have to trust him. She craned her neck to try and see the locking mechanism on the door. She couldn't see it, no matter how she tried.

"If it's a number pad, try 365782. I don't know why but... try. If not, then 419784. And if that doesn't work then I really don't know." She coughed, breath rattling, reflex tears leaking out of her eyes.

"What? 36578-" He turned his head, trying to look at her. How did she know this stuff? Regardless, it would be handy later. Moving sideways so he wasn't hurting himself or Reina, he began tapping and working the lock, tapping a combination he had done a thousand times, unbeknownst to them.

The metal door opened with a mechanic hiss as the servos released bursts of air, letting them out of the storage hold. Liyam grabs a sharp tool that was laying on a crate. He tries to hold Reina back as he attempts to cut the ropes.
"Here," He says, pressing the tip of the tool to his bonds, holding it lopsided in his hand, "I don't want to cut you." After a few minutes, he managed to free them, the chord falling to the floor.

The rest of the ship wasn't much better though. It was still burning hot, and it was only getting worse. Liyam looked about, they were in what appeared to be the main hall. With the storage hold behind them, 5 other metal doors blocked their view of the rest of the ship. 2 on either side of the hall and one in front of them. There were no labels.

Reina gasped with relief as her hands were freed. She looked up and down the ship, looking for any identifying factor on the doors. Finally she walked over to the doors on the left and started punching in the passcodes. Neither of the doors on the left opened for her, but one door on the right did. There were two doors in this hallway that opened. She did not go into either room, but one seemed like it held lots of computers and science equipment, and the other a bunch of unlabeled boxes stacked on floor-to-ceiling shelves.

She backed out of the hallway. Then, she turned to the door at the end of the main hall but couldn't seem to open that with the two codes she remembered. Frowning, she turned to look at her comrade again. "If you remember any codes, try them. I'll go poke around in the computery-room. Unless I should go look in the boxes? there might be food or water in there..."

Liyam stretched his arms, rejoicing in his newfound freedom. There was little to be seen in the hall, although it looked new and clean. Hearing her advice, he turned away from Reina walked up to one of the Lock Pads, straining to reach back into his memory for some kind of code.

One problem, he had no memory to use.

He looked toward Reina, about to say that he hadn't found anything, but then one of doors opened with a soft hiss, releasing a stream of blinding light.
