This is New York City, Eastern United States. The year is 2235 and what's left of the world is trying build itself back up after the bloodiest and most terrifying nuclear war of the century. Following a vast socio-economical collapse and a period of martial law, the United States government has had to rely on several megacorporations to survive. This has given them a veritable carte blanche to operate as they will. You will take the roles of the citizens and bigwigs that now belitter the planet, the same kinds of hardscrabble people who previously lacked the street smarts and skills to survive in such a desolate, freakish environment. The game is simple, survive, with much attention being paid to combat, high tech weaponry and cybernetic modification. While both performance enhancing and recreational drug use are at an all time high in the majority of earth's history, both are seen as common place and are very much ordinary things.
The range of characters that you, as the players, can adopt is very diverse, ranging from hardwired mercenaries with psycholinked weapons and boosted reflexes, to Armani-wearing corporate mega-yuppies who make and break national economies with the stroke of a pen. Any persona existing in this strange and broken environment can be yours to command. And your job is to survive, or to be survived upon. To play, or be played.

The kind of Megacorporations that will be big news in this roleplay are as follows:

Biotechnica, an Italian biotechnology, pharmacology, and cybernetics firm.
infocomp, a commercial think-tank and information repository.
Kendachi, a Japanese armament company, More dangerous than some might think.
Militech, American arms and mercenary contractor.
Petrochem, an energy company
Zetatech, a computer, cyberdeck, robotics, and cybernetics manufacturing company.
WorldSat Communications Network, a satellite communications giant.

Some terms that you will be using will consist of:
Netrunners
: Cybernetic computer hackers, the people who's bodies have been cybernetically modified to such extents as to allow them to become what are essentially human computers.
Fixers: Very simple, these are the Deal makers, smugglers, organizers and information brokers. you go to them when you want to deal under the table.
Nomads:Usually travelling in groups and even mobile towns, there are road warriors and gypsies who roam the highways. These people are the go-to guys for all your out-of-this-world chuck, there's nothing paranormal they don't know.
Privateers: Hardy world faring seamen, out to stab you in the back or to make a good bargain with you. These are the people who are out to pillage and steal, they often run you over in the seven seas, out to get supplies and other goods, as well as money, to sell on the black market back on dry land.
Solos: Hired assassins, bodyguards, killers, soldiers. Making money on the misfortune of others.
Rockerboys: Rebels who use music to fight the power. Partying hard and blasting tunes.

GROUPS

Corpore Metal - A society of full-body cyborgs that use Livemetal technology, where a modular braincase unit is inserted into a variety of purpose-built body frames. (Northeastern united states)
Edgerunners - the descendants of the anti-corporation Cyberpunk movement. Integral cyberlimbs are replaced by Neo-Cyber technology, in which detachable articulated frames called "bracers" worn over the body can be modified to perform all the functions of dedicated cybertechnology. (Mostly Europe, some of the eastern states.)
Reef - an undersea community whose members are heavily genetically-modified to adapt and survive in the depths of the ocean. (australia)
Riptide Confederation (連盟の荒海) - a fleet of Japanese floating arcologies that were cut off from their country following a nuclear civil war. They use bio-engineering to make living "tools" to aid them. (Japan)

STORY
[B]Chapter 1: Stormfront

Currently there are two major factions warring for control over the north-eastern U.S.
A large group of netrunners, rebels from Europe whose intent is to take down all established business that has come up as a result of the survivors. Concerning the other side, there aren't any organized counter-movements, but there do remain a few who would protect what they still have, those few would be you.

You as the characters are responsible for chosing one of these sides, or none at all, working to simply survive with what little you have. You play the roles of mercenaries, nomads, and other citizens. Either city dwellers, or the netrunners working on the coast. Eat or be eaten, my friends.
This is the stormfront.

Yo friend, your YouTube links are broken.

As to your RP, uhm, I'll have to think about whether or not I'll give this ago. It's not impossible, since my hard-on for cyberpunk is embarrassingly large, but we'll see about it. For now, I would have a few questions, if you'll indulge me. Can you elaborate on the power structure in place in the U.S., specifically in New York? We know there was a devastating war (between who? Over what?) and that mega-corps gained enormous power as a result of the rebuilding efforts. Is the state of relevance at all anymore? Is there even a state? If or if not, which companies hold sway over the country (or perhaps the city)?

This might be something for later in the OOC, but some more concrete information on (cyber)technology would be greatly appreciated. Your group descriptions in particular introduced me to a lot of specific terms that could be more clearly explained, such as Neo-Cyber technology, Livemetal, and obscure mentions of certain genetic modifications going on above and below the ocean in the Australian/Asian area. I find these options highly interesting, and beyond curiosity they would also greatly help with shaping characters.

For the broad strokes in the margins of an IntChk, that should do it; thanks for your time and, hopefully, replies!

On a side note, can I go ahead and blindly assume you watched and liked the anime Ergo Proxy?

Kinda interested, curious about the same things as Ashgan.

When you say full-body cyborgs, does that mean humanoid and human-sized like Robocop or does it include other kinds of mechanical bodies? Plus, what's the situation outside the remnants of the US?

Things I don't know how to fix: youtube links

Power is relatively easy to find.
Cold fusion is used, however, as you might understand, most plants didn't fare well under atomic pressure. One of the reasons New York is the haven at this point is because of its underground plant in Greenwich.

I'll admit there's no standing story for the war at this point. It's mostly phlebotinum.

The "state" as it were is no more. Its just that the places around the world with the more secure power and livable areas survived and that's where people collected.

The corporate side of things is mainly up to the players. there is a rough Idea that the big companies mentioned, as well as global ones like WorldSat are under a sort of agreement, but I've yet to work that out.

To elaborate on Livemetal and Neo-Cyber.

Livemetal is more like biotechnology, in that, you have what is essentially a human nervous system, outfitted with pseudo-organic parts and pieces.

Neo-Cyber technology is similar in its diversity, but instead of going directly to the brain, the body is outfitted with specialized limbs, when then interface with all varieties of dedicated frames, not unlike MK-I iron man. this option is much more comfortable for some people, as it doesn't require the brain to be directly outfitted with enhancements for anything beyond what the normal human brain does. you simply connect to the ports with your techno-arms and work it.

Livemetal is more organic and H+

Neo-Cyber is more Technology and Iron man.

As for genetics, just about anything you'd like is possible, with the technology now available to reconstruct nerve tissues and what have you, you can really do whatever you want in terms of body mods. though that's really a personal decision.

Just like I don't like tattoos, some people might not like getting a monkey tail installed. These kinds of things became more popular much faster in southeast Asia and Oceania because of increased solar radiation(as a result of decaying atmospheric Ozone.

And yes. I fuckin' love that animu.

Any various types of bodies. though they have to be scientifically explainable. no iron man. unless that's your body.

Other than New York.
Tokyo, Sydney, and London are the only large collectives, each of those sport similar circumstances. there are small ocean-based groups, but nothing more than 200 people or so.

No Iron Man as in "no arsenal of highly specialised suits to take on specific threats" or no Iron Man as in "no jet engines in your feet and hands that serve as laser cannons too"?

Does that mean that countries like Russia and China are no more? No Germany? I'm guessing that the Balkan Peninsula is a crater named after Belgrade. With all the large collectives aside from one, there's a bit of an Anglo-centric vibe here. I'm sure it wasn't intentional, it's just weird.

Nah, no intentional white privelage, just. those were the three largest/technologically advanced cities i could think of. If you have a better/more accurate idea, please share. I'm really interested in getting this roleplay to maximum realism, so.

that aside.no iron man, because, thats not how space works. You just cant fit propulsion systems in your hands and feet. any armor/bodies, need to be physically possible. if you have anything outside the realm of reality, you must be able to explain it with science.

Alternate energies and some more advanced tech such as cold fusion, body enhancement, and smaller electronics, etc. but there is still no such thing as defying physics.

yet.

but yeah. geography wasn't my best class.

Ignoring the unintentional implication of "Slavs aren't white", I'd suggest that both Russia and China exist in some form, even if it's fragmented. If anything, Slavs tend toward creating independent countries and claiming that they're completely different nations some decades later. European Union most probably wouldn't exist in your world, but knowing Germans, they'd most likely become a dominant European power (they just don't know when to quit). In such a war that hit the planet, I'm pretty sure that the smallest and the least important countries would be no more. So, basically, business as usual in Africa, Balkan Peninsula is a giant crater, Middle East a nuclear wasteland instead of a desert one and somebody accidentally vapourised both Koreas. Also, there's S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Tears of Fukushima in Japan.

So the second reason. Gotcha. I'm asking since I have an idea for a character being a brain stuck in a miniaturised combat mech.

fair enough.

I'll do what I can, write that into something or other. I can't guarantee anything at the time of writing, as I'm in a very vulnerable and anxious state. mood disorders, what'll ya do.

So, give me some time and I'm sure I'll have rectified this racial abnormality.
