Strange beasts and monsters, vast riches, hidden treasures, evil haunts, uncharted frontiers, the mysterious unknown.
The people who are captivated by the magic in those words are called Hunters!

Humanity is constantly driven by desire—the desire for fame and wealth, the desire for adventure and the unknown, the desire for knowledge and enlightenment. A path exists for those who seek the means of attaining their desire heedless of the danger that lies ahead. That path is to become a Hunter!

Hunters enjoy countless free amenities and services, they have access to exclusive information and can enter many restricted areas. However, becoming a Hunter is not easy. You eventually arrive at the city of Avent at the edge of the Burial Sands where the Hunter Exam is said to be held, a deadly trial where millions seek to participate in by only a handful ever pass. It is here where your journey will finally begin.

  • Using Discord is a must. Roleplaying is a social activity and I wanna talk to you about characters, plots, and etc. No communication, no roleplay. Discord link here.
  • I reserve the right to move your character in order to move things along. If you are somehow holding things up in the roleplay and not communicating with me, I will move your character for you. I will try to do it in the least obtrusive way I can, but I will move them.
  • This is a PG-13 roleplay. If you must include something involving mature content, just write it vaguely or do a fade to black. We're not writing smut here. (Feel free to make smut fanfics and post them on Discord though ;D )
  • Make use of your common sense. Don't do stupid things like godmodding, powerplaying, metagaming. Don't kill off PCs without permission. Don't kill off NPCs that are obviously important. I can't list it all here.
  • If I say something is final, it is final. You can try to talk things out with me, but if I put my foot down on something, please respect my authority as the GM.
  • Lastly, let's try to make sure everyone has fun. That's why we're all here after all. Play nice, think about others when you're posting, but don't forget to have fun yourself either~!

This roleplay takes place in a different, but thematically similar universe to the source material. The ancients called this world the Little Garden, but the world is anything but small and is full of exotic locales yet to be explored.

Civilisation has come a long way and overcome many cataclysmic events throughout its rich history. Compared to our world, the Little Garden is less densely populated. Even so, technology has managed to reach modern day levels in urban areas, while many colorful traditional lifestyles still persist in the countryside. Society is advanced in most places, but dictatorships, monarchies, and theocracies still exist.

The most prominent feature of this world is its fantastical assortment of flora and fauna, a great number of which are as deadly as they are beautiful. Many lands are inhabited only by indigenous tribes due the danger of the natural environment. Beyond these dangerous lands, there exist Extremity Zones that are forbidden for anyone to even approach for fear of rousing the beasts that sleep within.

Collaborative world building is a big part of this roleplay. Once I have verified you on Discord, you will be given access to a Google Doc which you can add entries to flesh out this world.

Name: (Feel free to make up the most ridiculous of names. Or name your character Bob. Bob is good.)

Race: (If you are making up a race, explain your race in the biography)

Age: (Be somewhat reasonable. I guess you can be like a super old martial arts grandpa or a young prodigy.)

Sex: (Don't be stupid here. I generally prefer not to have transgender characters here because people usually do stupid things with them.)

Appearance: (Be very descriptive or include a picture. Doesn't necessarily have to be animesque.)

Personality: Give me the following things as they are pretty important to this roleplay. You can do point form or you can do paragraph form.
  • Their character strengths.
  • Their flaws.
  • Their motivation to become a Hunter.
  • Their moral values

Biography: (Let's see some interesting things here. Be as fanciful as you want without delving into stupid cliches and tropes. Also feel free to explain more about your character's race or culture here.)

Abilities: (List your character's talents and special skills that has the potential to put them at the peak 0.001% of humanity. I'd rather not have anyone be able to use Nen just yet. Nen is something most people learn after they become a Hunter, particularly since it's quite powerful.)

Miscellaneous: (Anything else you want me to know. Trivia, theme songs, etc.)

"If I may be so ambitious, I seek to experience all the grandeur of this world."

× Name: Basil Lightbourne
× Age: 17
× Sex: Male

× Appearance:
Due to his androgynous features, Basil is sometimes mistaken for a beautiful woman in the early to mid twenties range. He has a very mellow-looking face, with large eyes and thick lashes. His skin is pale, but color is brought to it through contrast with his long white hair. His height also contributes to the misunderstanding as he stands at a relatively short 164 cm (5'5") and has a slender build with thin shoulders.

Basil usually wears a loose, white long-sleeved shirt which covers up the fact that his arms quite toned underneath. His affluent background means that most of his clothes are made of silk or other luxurious fabrics, but he stays away from extravagant designs and gets them specially tailored to be very easy to move and fight in.

× Personality:
On first impressions, Basil appears demure and reserved, but this is mostly just because he is soft-spoken, and simply prefers to keep small talk to a minimum in conversation. It is also because he gets embarrassed easily and pretends to act casually when he is excited. With his childish sense of wonder for the world, he is constantly seeking to expose himself to new things and meet new people. He looks forwards to a future where he can be a Hunter and travel to exotic and even forbidden locales.

Being a prince, Basil is used to things just going his way. While he is quite clever and very knowledgeable about a great many topics, his lack of worldly experience combined with his forward drive makes him often underestimate challenges and be oblivious to risks. He has suffered minor setbacks before, but he has never been in mortal danger, and he does not really understand the meaning of hard work.

Basil's single-mindedness in his desire for knowledge and exploration means he seldom pays heed to matters that do not pique his curiosity. He can be very compassionate however when he sees someone in need of help. He acts mostly on his instincts and has put little thought into matters of right and wrong.

× Biography:
The Lightbourne family is old nobility, dating back to the earliest days of the Elancian Empire. They were slowly fading into irrelevance until three hundred years ago, the Two Star Treasure Hunter and explorer Aeron Lightbourne lead the efforts in colonizing the Jewel Archipelago, and the family was anointed as Viceroyalty of the new colony. When the Empire fell and was divided, the Lightbourne family declared themselves a monarchy and have continued to rule over the Archipelago ever since.

Basil grew up in a loving home as the second son of King Mammon of the Jewel Archipelago. As he was not slated to inherit the throne, Basil has always hoped instead to become a Hunter like many of his ancestors have been before him. He naturally loves to learn and studied many things, even inviting teachers from around the world. Although he has never left the Archipelago, a great deal of his time has been spent exploring the Jewel Archipelago from end to end; it is too big for him to even come close to fully exploring however.

× Abilities:
As someone who prepared long to become a Hunter, Basil keeps in relatively good physical shape. He has been trained before by a martial arts teacher and can handle himself well enough against ordinary thugs. His greatest asset however is his encyclopedic knowledge of things from survival skills to foreign cultures.

101st Floor, Grand Hotel Mohad - 4:54 pm
There were three elevators that reached the 101st floor. Once one arrived, one would be greeted by guards who would perform a body search and remove any electronics and any items that could potentially used as a weapon with the promise that they would be returned when the first Phase of the Exam was over.

Then a butler would come and attach a numbered badge to one's back. The examinee was not allowed to remove it, doing so would disqualify them immediately. Finally, the butler would direct them through a door to the main site with the instructions that they were not allowed to leave, but they were free to do as they pleased within until the Exam officially starts.

As of the moment, there were 193 examinees who had already arrived at the Exam site. These people could already be considered the cream of the crop. They came from all backgrounds and nationalities, but in one way or another had demonstrated an outstanding performance to have reached the Exam proper.

At the end of the pre-exam tests, what awaited examinees up top of the 101st floor was a massive and elaborately decorated four-layered restaurant that allowed diners on multiple levels a view of the performances on the stage at the front of the restaurant. Each upper level of the restaurant was smaller than the level below it.

Of course, not all tables on the higher levels had a view of the stage, some were positioned farther in on that level. All tables of the restaurant were the same size, and circular with five chairs positioned at each. Waiters were stationed all around the restaurants whom examinees could order extravagant food and wine from completely of charge.

"Look at these idiots. Some of them act like they've already passed." An very tall and very pale woman sat at the edge of the bar at one end of the restaurant, watching the examinees. Few would call her beautiful, but certainly quite striking. Unlike the others partaking in the food and drink, she did not have a badge on her back indicating her place in arriving here.

The head bartender finished serving a cocktail to an examinee before turning to the woman. "What's more disappointing are those who are not enjoying fine wine with company," said the bartender rather softly. He looked around. Most of the aspiring Hunters-to-be kept nervously to themselves and the ballroom was abnormally quiet for the number of people within. "My heart grows heavy at the waste, many of them even have had a whole day to find worthwhile friends."
