It finally happened. Terrorists managed to get a nuclear weapon onto American soil. It went off at JFK International airport. But odds were that that wasn’t where and when it was supposed to be used. The weapon was a 10 kt “dud”. But it was still quite lethal and turned the airport and that section of Long Island into a massive hot zone.

You are one of the victims of that event. Who you are, Why you were there, is up to you. Maybe you were flying back from overseas. Maybe you were getting ready to fly out for a vacation. Maybe you just worked at the airport. Maybe you worked for TSA. Maybe you were part of Homeland Security and trying to locate the device. But as a victim, odds are that if you are government or an airport employee, you will be on medical leave for some time.
How did you survive? How are you perfectly normal after the blast? All this is something to decide before this RP starts. Remember, if you hope to have a secret ID after the event, you need to go unnoticed. That is, you can’t stumble out of ground zero nekkid. That would make world headlines. Of course, maybe you would prefer to go the Superman route and not wear a mask.
But that is pretty close to what happened. You will be ultimately unharmed … and vastly improved after the blast. You will have powers beyond reason. You will be superhuman.
You aren’t quite the first of your kind. About a year ago another superhero arrived on the scene, starting in the tornado and hurricane parts of the USA. He isn’t a crime fighting vigilante. He responds to natural disasters. Weather, geologic and such. He never sticks around for thanks. And his first goal appears to be to help trained first responders get to the victims. He is also known to snuff out fires. And he has rescued police during shootouts. But this is very rare. It took forever for anyone to come up with a name for him as he wouldn’t do interviews. But people finally took to calling him the First Ranger (named so because his body armor seems to have morphing qualities like Power Rangers). Odds are he has no real superpowers, but is more of an Iron Man sort. (His current age as of this RP will be 26 in the Fall.)
