Meet Cody Li Greyfeather. He is a young chef at a New Orleans Cajun/Creole - Asian food court in the French Quarter owned by his adoptive mother. He also works part time work at an auto body shop that is owned by his adoptive father. His father is now a vegetable from an accident. His uncle now runs the garage. His mother and uncle are trying to convince him to start college. (He has his GED finally. He’s actually pretty smart, though he doesn’t believe that.)
Cody’s family is afflicted by organized crime and corrupt police. His mother was sued over the name of her restaurant. Her business was hit hard by a bad review from a critic. Times are tough. But they haven’t give up - and they refuse to pay extortion money. They are not alone in this plight.
In 2016-17, New Orleans surpassed Chicago and Baltimore for shootings (slightly lower in murder as a percentage). This has been fueled by drug trafficking. Some would argue that the city needs a hero.
*For this RP I am taking a sort of Gotham approach and introducing corruption of the police department.
There are no superheroes - that is superpowered vigilantes. There ARE, however, normal vigilantes. It is arguable whether they are helping any. The police regard them as criminals.
This is to be a low powered superhero RP. Cody is NOT a superhero … yet. Sure he has a little training in martial arts. But he is no Bruce Lee. The restaurant seems to have fallen under SOME sort of protection. Noone has torched it or managed a drive by shooting to scare away customers - not since his father suffered his “accident.”
** The accident was a case of Cody’s father being trapped in his garage with a car running until carbon monoxide left him a vegetable.
