The newly elected president was sworn into office. As with all presidents he went through the usual early term education. He set about the task of appointing his Cabinet and having them confirmed. The man he appointed as Secretary of Homeland Security seemed like an unlikely candidate. However, he was confirmed faster than most.

Jonathan Miller confirmed as Secretary of Homeland Security by the Senate. As it would so happen he was an engineer and very high security clearances. The one thing he was not, was a politician.

A bomb is detonated in the US Capitol Building killing the President and most of the line of succession. The Secretary of Homeland Security is 18th in line. Jonathan Miller has had just over a month on the job, a month in politics. But he is now the President of the USA. Duncan is an Emancipated teen in both high school and college, but due to the nature of his father’s sudden rise to the presidency he is picked up by Secret Service and whisked away for safety.

RP Start. Location, Washington DC.
The RP will be a two fold venture that follows similar issues to those seen in the TV series. President Miller will be viewed by the public with great skepticism. He wasn’t elected, but appointed. He is extremely new on the job. He knows little about politics. Basically he is just a good, decent man who is probably too honest for the job.
Part of the RP will focus in on the Press. The Press will soon attack his credentials and begin digging up every piece of dirt they can on him, the First Lady … and finally their adopted son. For the past two administrations the First Family has been degraded as an institution. Once upon a time the people of the USA looked to the First Family as a shining example of what it meant to be a family. Not so for the past 8 years. Now the world looks once more to see what sort of mess this First Family will be.
Part of the RP will focus on the intrigue. Who bombed the White House? How will the US respond? Is America safe? Will there be more attacks?
Part of the RP will focus on Duncan as he deals with the lonely existence as the President’s son.
Your role will be many fold.
You will need to develop a few Press personnel with different agendas. They should be a little better than cardboard cutout characters. They should have a name, some network or publication they represent, and a backstory. The President’s son has been in the news more than his father in the space of one year, but he still has secrets.
You can develop some Secret Service agents, especially any assigned to Duncan. If Duncan elects to move (such as back to Albuquerque), you will have to do the same.
You might want to develop a romance interest. If you look at the map link for the White House, anything remotely worth visiting like a museum is at least a mile away. At a mile and a half is the Smithsonian. At 2 miles, is the Library of Congress. An utterly bored Duncan might head there. But you can probably forget shady dance clubs. He COULD move right back to Albuquerque. Regardless, he will be assigned Secret Service. He no longer has a truly private life.
Moving back home is not a bad idea. It allows him to lead a slightly more private life and do the things he loves. But he still has to watch what he says.
