The news reporter grinned excitedly into the camera with her microphone in hand, it shook with the anticipation flowing throughout her body. The annual OI Trainer Program lottery had become a big spectacle to the point where families would put down everything to watch it together. The amount of people with their names on the list for selection numbered in the hundreds of thousands, a lucky twenty were to be selected to receive a helping hand in starting their pokemon journey.

"We've had a week of build up! We've caught up with former winners who have gone on to do great things! But now...we are only FIVE minutes away from this years draw!" The excitement in the reporters voice was shared by everyone watching, whether they knew someone with their name in the draw or not. "Who will be lucky enough to be selected this year? Stick with us until after this short break to find out!"

The reporter faded from the screen as the obligatory commercials ran advertising everything from biscuits to life insurance. With the number of people tuned in the cost to run an advert would have been extortionate, the viewing numbers triple any of the standard programming. Somewhere the station owner would be rubbing his hands together as he counted the extra zeroes.

"Welcome back folks! It's now time for use to go to the stage and get this years draw underway! Good luck to everyone!" The reporters reappearance was shortlived as she was replaced with a view of the stage. On it was the familiar face of Professor Arianna Oak. She was the current lead professor and owner of the Oak Institute and the primary reason for the OI Trainer Program existing. As the camera zoomed in on her she smiled and began to speak.

"Once again it's time for us to help a group of twenty people realise their dream of exploring this wonderful region in the search for pokemon. We have done this for quite a number of years now and it never fails to grab the publics attention...the support they show the Institute and these new trainers really gives me hope for this world of ours." There was a round of applause from the audience in attendance. Arianna raising her hands gesturing for quiet. "Thank you. I just want to say that the work the previous trainers have done is beyond measure. There are the obvious well reported instances of them stepping up to help out people and pokemon alike, but each and every trainer who has left here has done something to make this world a better place. I have full confidence that this years group will do the same." The applause rang out once again, this time Arianna leant forward towards the microphone in front of her. "So without further ado, let's get this started!"

The cheers became rapturous as the draw began, people within the crowd overcome with excitement. The crowd was made up of people whose names were in the draw, taking the chance that they would be lucky enough to have their name called. For those at home watching on TV, the screen showed the screen of the randomiser. The hundreds of thousands of profiles rotated in and out for a few seconds before finally coming to stop on the first person. A picture of a young teen, his hair fiery red and eyes a deep brown, was on the screen next to the name Gregory Handscombe. There were claps from within the arena as the profile appeared in front of them, each person hoping that it would be their name next.

The draw carried on much the same way for the following ten minutes until it was completely finished. The generator made way on the screen for the finalised list of those lucky enough to be selected for this years OI Trainer Program.

Gregory Handscombe, Victor Willows, Harry Thompson, Tim Smith, Samantha Riley, Rebecca Pierce, Lewis Morgan, Bobby Neil, Lance Goodthrust, Karl Symonds, Alan Stevens, Magnus Barry, Aubrey Longfellow, Corbin Sullivan, Malie Makana, Mark Longfield, Hannah Carey, Vivienne Nexane, Eddy Kaufman and then last on the list was Damian Grant. A mixture of all genders and races made up the list, all twenty people to soon become pokemon trainers. The excited reporter returned to the screens one more, her face lit up even more that it was previously.

"Well that's it for this years lottery folks! Stay tuned for The P Team! If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them....maybe you can hire The P-Team! Goodnight!" With that the broadcast ended and the draw was complete for another year. Behind the scenes the Institutes team was hard are work informing those lucky enough to be selected. A draft letter was created and sent out with the next steps.

With the letter sent out, the twenty people lucky enough to be selected for the program made their way to the Institute ready to start their adventures. Coming together from all over the world for all different reasons, these people were starting something bigger than any of them could have ever imagined.

Sully entered the reception of the Institute to find a lone desk sat amid a vast, open area. Behind the desk was a young woman, her black hair neatly tied up into a ponytail. She caught a glimpse of the young man entering the building and cast him a smile with her bright smile. Still taken aback by the sheer size of the Institute's building Sully was unaware of the receptionist try to grab his attention. She continued to smile a little longer before calling out to him.

"Excuse me sir. Can I help?" Her words snapped Sully back into the real world and he turned to looked her. He rubbed the back of his head and approached the desk. "I'm sorry," he said, "I just can't get over the size of this place."

The receptionist covered her mouth as she laughed trying not to seem rude. "It's okay. We get that reaction alot. While it's not the tallest building in Kanto it certainly covers the widest area. With the building itself and the grounds for the pokemon to roam in, it covers an area equal to a small city." Sully's jaw dropped as the sheer scale of the Institute was starting sink in. The receptionist giggled once more making Sully close his mouth.

"So I presume you're here for the trainer program?" Sully nodded in acknowledgement, he could feel his mouth getting dry as nerves started to set in. "So what's your name?" Sully provided a one word answer, the dryness of his mouth wouldn't let him say much more either way. "Corbin Sullivan." He reached deep into his pocket and unwrapped a sweet, putting it in his mouth in a hope to stop his sudden onset drymouth.

With his response the receptionist focussed on the computer in front of her briefly, her fingers tapping away rapidly at the keyboard. When she was done she looked back to to him. "Ok great. So everything is in order with your registration. I'm just going to need you to head to the orientation room. If you head down the corridor to your right, follow the signs and they will take you to where you have to go." Casting a glance to his right Sully could see a long, brightly lit corridor. He turned back to the receptionist to bid her farewell. "Thank you for your help. Take care." As he turned to leave the receptionist spoke one last time, "It's no problem. Good luck on your journey."

Sully began to make his way through the corridors, stopping occassionally to peek through a window. One window kept his attention longer than the others however. Within it was a single scientist but he wasn't alone, the room was filled with pokemon eggs. As far as Sully could see the room kept going backward, endless rows of eggs being carefully looked after. Each was situated in a padded case with a name tag, but they were too far from the door to make any names out. After separating himself from the egg room he moved onward.

Rounding the last corner towards the orientation room caused Sully to stop still. The painted walls had made way for glass panels allowing Sully to see outside. He was presented with the sight of a wide open field flanked by thick forestry. At the far end of the field sat a small mountain that had a river running down it to a lake at the bottom. Across his entire line of sight were pokemon, their numbers nothing like anything he had seen before. Stepping forward towards the glass on one side Sully pressed his face against it trying to get as close as he could. The Institute had built what he could only describe as a Pokemon Utopia, a sanctuary for injured or discarded pokemon with it's own breeding program. This is amazing... Lost to the world once again, Sully spent ten minutes staring out of the window. When he finally came round he walked the length of the corridor and entered the orientation room.

The room wasn't the biggest he had seen during his walk through the Institute but it was certainly as fancy. It was spotlessly clean from top to bottom, the tops of the tables cleared apart from two boxes. At the back of the room was a man wearing a white lab coat and behind him was a tube that disappeared into the ceiling above. "Welcome to orientation Sully. I'm Professor Hackett." Hearing his name threw Sully for a moment before realising the receptionist would have passed on his details. "Hey there."

Gesturing to the boxes in front of him the scientist called Sully forward. "If you want to come over here were can get you set up and off to the waiting rooms." The soon to be trainer listened to the request and crossed the room, stopping opposite the table the scientist waited at. The man reached into a box and pulled out what was clearly a Pokedex, handing over to Sully.

"As promised in our letter here is your very own Pokedex. In addition to being a log of what pokemon you encounter it has additonal functionalities. It is a mobile telephone, GPS, diary, music player and has many other functions. I could list them all for you now but you'd never get started on your journey." Sully looked down at the pokedex in front of him, sliding it open to reveal a simple menu to each function. "Seem's easy enough to use." The scientist smiled and continued on.

"Exactly. It has come pre-programmed to include the phone numbers of your emergency contacts and Professor Oak. In addition to this we have..." As the man spoke he pulled out a card from the other box, "...your OI Card. This will get you fed and transported anywhere in Kanto at no cost to yourself. In addition it can also be used to book you into hotels." Taking the card Sully gave it a once over before placing it into his wallet. Looking back up Sully was greeted by a handful of Pokedollars. "Take this courtesy of the Institute. It is entirely up to you how you spend it." Sully smiled as he placed the currency in hit wallet. It's not much but it's a start. Sully kept his thoughts to himself to stop himself coming across ungrateful.

"Thanks for that. I can't believe how generous the Institute is being." The scientist smiled, moving to speak before he was interrupting by the sound of a buzzer. He turned around and grabbed hold of something from the tube behind him. Sully leant over to his left to catch a glimpse of what the scientist held, clearly making out the distinctive design of a pokeball. He felt his heart skip a beat at the sight of the small ball, as soon as he had it in his hand it meant he would then be a pokemon trainer.

The scientist spun back around to see Sully leaning awkwardly around him, laughing it off. "Excited are you?" Sully straightened up, looking around the room as a poor attempt to hide what he was doing. "Seeing as you can't wait i'll give you the honour of opening it up yourself." Reaching out the man placed the pokeball into Sully's hand, the weight of it not quite what he expected. He gave it a once over with his eyes before pressing the button on it. The ball opened and an arc of light erupted from it, striking the top of the table in front of him. As the light began to take form it started to become clearer just what Sully had gotten.

With the light now faded a small pokemon remained staring up at him with it's big black eyes. The two looked back and for at each other for a brief moment as if both were stuck. Then in unison both let out a cry. "Nice!" shouted Sully, "A piplup!" With his excitement the Piplup had yelled out it's own name as pokemon often did, before launching itself at Sully. It leapt onto his coat, climbing up it. Sully laughed as the small creature took a seat on his shoulder, reaching around the side of Sully's head to hold on. "It seems he likes you." The scientist was clearly stating the obvious, Piplup had taken to Sully better than the young trainer could ever have hoped.

Sully turned his head slightly, being careful not to knock his new pokemon off his shoulder. "Hey Piplup, my name is Sully." The pokemon jumped from Sully's shoulder with an overdramtic dive, flipping in the air. After it landed it threw a few punches into thin air. With it's last punch it struck a pose, looking back at Sully. The pokemon said it's name once before stopping the pose and taking a seat on the table. Sully laughed at the small pokemon, "We are definitely going to get on well."

With Sully focussed on Piplup the scientist received a phone called. It was only brief before he returned his phone to his jacket pocket. "Unfortunately i'm going to have to ask you to move on to one of our waiting rooms now Sully. The next trainer is here so if you could please exit through that door over there. I wish you and Pipluck luck on your journey." Sully nodded in recognition. "Come on then Piplup lets go."

The pokemon leapt from the table and walked next to Sully towards the door he was directed to. As he passed through the door way a voice called to him form behind, "Don't forget to pick up your pokeballs from the table." Sully turned back to the man, "Ok no problem. Thanks."

Just past the doorway was a table with packs of pokeballs on it, each pack with a name on it. Looking down at them Sully recognised the names as the other people selected for the program. He picked up his pack and placed it inside his coat. Once again he was in a corridor, this time it led to a small area with several doors. Each was numbered from one to six with an electronic sign above it. One to four said spaces while five and six said full. He looked down at Piplup and spoke. "I'll let you pick the door Piplup." The pokemon spoke before barreling towards door number three. It leapt up and twisted the door handle, it's momentum swinging the door open.

The room looked comfortable with its carpeted flooring and inviting seating. The walls were adorned with pictures of previous trainers who had gone through the trainer program in previous years. In between them was a large TV with the words 'PLEASE WAIT' emblazoned across it. Looking down to talk to Piplup Sully was shocked to see him missing. He scouted the room before noticing the pokemon bounding towards a table in the far corner, the top of it covered in a range of snacks and sweets. "Hell yes!" Sully quickly crossed the room and began to stuff his face with the assortment of food. Piplup leapt up next to him and started to tear into a selection of pokemon treats. Both paused for a second looking at each other, food smudged across both their faces. Without a word they returned to stuffing food into their mouths.

Minutes later both were led out on a couch nursing their overfilled stomachs. "You clearly like food as much as me." The Piplup tried to speak it's name in response but instead let out a deep, wall shaking burp. The pair laughed before slowly drifting off into a deep sleep as they awaited the next arrival.

The Nexan family gathered to watch the Ol Trainer Program's draw. Twenty names, just like every year, would be randomly chosen to receive an immense early help in their pokΓ©mon trainer journey. Vivienne's name was in it as well and the girl couldn't hide her anxiety, rocking back and forth in the couch with her eyes latched on the TV screen. The current head of the Oak Institute, name Arianna Oak, finally finished her speech and the draw began. The screen flicked, with thousands of names rotating over at the screen until it stopped, selecting the first lucky individual: Gregory Handscombe.

Ivy bit onto her lower lip, clasping her hands together in front of her face, resting her chin against her hands. If she was elected this year, she would find another way to venture into the world - she meant it. She just knew it was the right thing to do; she was about to finish her studies, she needed to find a job - but what else could she do with the same excellency as exploring the world and learning more about it? She constantly thought about the choices of professions to specialize in... And the one of a pokΓ©mon trainer was the most exciting, adventurous one. Perhaps she could use one of her mother's grass types to catch her first pokΓ©mon and carry on her dream?

Damn, why... are you even thinking so negatively, Ivy? The draw isn't done yet. The girl scoffed herself in her own thoughts - only to be shaken out of it as apparently another name was called: Mark Longfield. Sixteen names had already been called, so her hopes being extremely low were comprehensible, at least. There were thousands of people in the waiting list and Ivy had only been there for... a few months, ever since she had turned eighteen. The next name was Hanna Carey and her mother jumped a little on the couch, blinking.

"Hanna Carey? That's Mrs. Carey daughter!" The woman commented, a hand running through her dirty blonde hair. Just as she turned to her husband to comment about the one trainer they knew, the next name was called. Ivy's hands trembled, her heart skipped a beat and she felt as if she was just about to have a heart attack. Her mouth went dry, her eye widened and her expression completely blankly with disbelief: Had she heard right? Was that really her photo on the TV screen? Her fingertips spread themselves around her mouth as it hanged agape, her pale skin even paler.

Her father, who took a day off just to watch the draw with his family today, stood up and placed both hands at either side of his bald head, his mouth in an oval shape as he struggled with his own desire to scream in excitement. Instead, he turned and extended both arms, wrapping either arm around his wife and his daughter, his eyes filling with tears - there was no denying it, he was happy that his daughter would have a very valuable attempt at following her dream. His name was Robert Jr. Nexan and honestly, the burly man always wanted to become a breeder but never had the opportunity to. He grew following his late father's footsteps and became a mechanic, spending his days fixing cars and trucks, being covered in oil head to toe and occasionally arguing with his boss who always wanted him to work miracles without the right parts.

The mother, meanwhile, was already crying wildly; she was always sensitive and this was particularly a strong reason to. As mentioned before, thousands of youngling were currently in the draw for the Ol Trainer Program and only twenty were chosen, to have your daughter's name in these twenty... The woman was sure that it was either destiny or a stronger force. She was particularly superstitious after all. Dalilah Fernandes Nexan was a woman that actually managed to live off the things she really enjoyed doing: Plants and helping others. As a botanist, she always had a strong knowledge regarding plants and herbs- and since she loved them a lot, the woman choose to set up a herbs shop, growing specific ones to help with illnesses and their treatments. With sections for both human and pokΓ©mon, her shop became a frequent stop for trainers trying to recover their pokΓ©mon - especially those inflicted with poison. Apparently carrying an antidote wasn't something.

Now, Ivy herself... She was slowly sinking back into reality. Her mind had wandered far, she was already imagining herself battling with the Elite, famous trainers around the world, collecting badges, discovering epic adventures, catching legendary pokΓ©mon - though, she wasn't so silly to think all that would come with the blink of an eye. The Ol Trainer Program gave a helping hand to starters, to trainers that would only begin their adventure. She had a very long way to go, but this was it. On a few days from now, she would begin her journey.

That day, Ivy couldn't even sleep. She just kept overthinking things, her first steps, where she would go... what she would achieve. Being the first one up at the next morning, she received the letter from the Institute personally. She must've read the letter at least fifteen times to make sure she wasn't misreading or missing an important detail. At 23rd of this month, she would finally get her first pokΓ©mon and start her own journey. She informed her family and they were quite supportive - even though they were worried at the same time, they wouldn't stand in the way of their daughter's dream.

Finally, the day where Ivy's journey would officially start. She woke up her father earlier than expected, being way too anxious to wait any further. The family had what could've been possibly the fastest breakfast ever before Robert drove them to Pallet Town, where the Institute was located. Ivy was dressed in a white tank top with, a black and green camo jacket, black cargo pants and a pair of dark brown boots. She had some accessories as well, such as headphones currently around her neck, fingerless brown gloves, her glasses and a loose dull yellow hat. The drive from their hometown to Pallet was actually short, but to Ivy, it seemed as if an eternity had passed.

They left her as close as possible. Both of her parents hugged her tight and said that she should be cautious and etcetera, before they left. Finally, the girl began walking towards the Institute. She was already feeling tremendously nervous and the sight of the amazingly huge structure only made the feeling worse. Her eyes widened behind the pair of glasses as she looked it from outside - words just couldn't describe the place. It was as if there was a city within a city. Dusting her chest and stomach with her hands and taking a deep breath, the girl entered the institute.

... Inside it seemed even bigger. A woman sat behind a desk - the receptionist, Ivy assumed. She tried to focus and move directly in front of the desk, where the woman greeted her warmly.

"Welcome to the Oak Institute, how may I help?" The girl nodded sharply, her hands already searching for one another, clasping together behind her back. "Ahh, hey there. I'm Vivienne Nexan, I was selected in the Ol Trainer Program..." Ivy informed the woman, who shortly after, replied back; "Right. Everything is in order with your registration. Now, you should head to the orientation room. If you head down the corridor to your right, follow the signs and they will take you to where you have to go."

Ivy flashed a smile and thanked her; "Thanks a lot. Take care!" And then she did as told. She felt so small within this place. It was large - way too large to be honest. Through the windows, she could see a room with many eggs - then, a room with a group of white-coats apparently studying or researching. Nearing the last corridor, she stopped still, briefly. The imagery was something that had either come out of a book or a child's mind: Beautiful, lush green forestry with a similarly dream-like river running across the place, so many pokΓ©mon that Ivy's eyes just couldn't register them all. She smiled broadly, knowing that her journey from now on would be filled with places just like that.

Finally reaching her destination, she entered the orientation room, only to be greeted by a man who called her out by name: "Welcome to orientation Vivienne. I'm Professor Hackett." She assumed that all of her information was passed by the receptionist. Smart and quick - this place was a mixture of natural beauty and technology. Marvelous!

"Hey there Mrs. Hackett." Ivy greeted the man back, just as he beckoned her over, informing the eager trainer; "If you want to come over here were can get you set up and off to the waiting rooms." Ivy listened to the request and hastily made her way across the room, stopping at the opposite table the scientist waited at. The man reached into a box and pulled out what was clearly a Pokedex, handing over to her.

"As promised in our letter here is your very own Pokedex. In addition to being a log of what pokemon you encounter it has additional functionalities. It is a mobile telephone, GPS, diary, music player and has many other functions. I could list them all for you now but you'd never get started on your journey." Oddly enough, hearing that it had a music player made the girl smile warmly. Her old music player was already starting to malfunction and it was driving her mad in all honesty. Still, the pokedex had a lot of functionalities that seemed extremely useful for a starter trainer, she couldn't imagine a trainer getting anywhere without one. "Wow, it's just awesome!" The scientist smiled and continued on.

"Exactly. It has come pre-programmed to include the phone numbers of your emergency contacts and Professor Oak. In addition to this we have..." As the man spoke he pulled out a card from the other box, "...your OI Card. This will get you fed and transported anywhere in Kanto at no cost to yourself. In addition it can also be used to book you into hotels." She couldn't keep her eyebrows from arching in surprise. Fed, transport and even hotels - all free of charge because of this lovely card here? Ivy knew that hte institute offered a lot of help but this was beyond measure. Before she could say anything, the man held out a handful of pokedollars to her. A courtesy.

"Oh my... I don't even know what to say..." The eager trainer was flustered, this was just so much - she had to keep herself from crying and further embarrassing herself. Apparently she was just as soft as her mother. Finally, Professor Hackett stood up and apparently picked up something else.

After he turned back, Ivy could see perfectly that what he held was a pokeball. She felt her heart skip a beat and exhaled a brief sigh, her breathing clearly becoming less stable. The man chuckled and held it out to her.

"And finally, I'm willing to bet you've been waiting for this. Go ahead, open it." Without another word, Ivy stood and extended her arm, picking the pokeball up. She eyed it over, holding the item close to her face before clicking the middle button - an arc erupted from it, a red flash quickly materializing in the shape of a... Cyndaquil. The pokemon yawned before shouting - as most pokemon - it's own name. Ivy, at this point, cried as she leaned down on her knees and wrapped her arms around the puzzled pokemon. It quickly warmed up to her, though.

The professor cleared his throat at a buzzling sound coming from his desk. "Apologies but I must interrupt. Another trainer is waiting for me so... I bid you and Cyndaquil good luck on your journey - please, don't forget the pokeballs over there and then you can leave through that door, over there." Ivy nodded, quickly gaining her composure back. She gave the cyndaquil a pat in the head and beckoned him to follow her. "Come on, Cyndaquil. Let's go." The pokemon replied with a 'Quil!' and the pair began walking, with Ivy briefly stopping to pick the pokeballs with her name before leaving through the door. There was a small corridor which led to a small area with various doors, each with an electronic panel above them showing a different number. Without overthinking things, Ivy made her way to the third door - she didn't regret a single bit of her decision. The comfortable room had a large TV showing: 'PLEASE WAIT', a table filled with all kinds of treat and food and inviting seats. The Cyndaquil and it's trainer approached the table, looking at one another with wild smiles. Ivy ate only a handful, while Cyndaquil seemed a little more intent on eating. Finally, they slowly made their way over to the couch - only to find another trainer and a pokemon sleeping there. A boy and a piplup.

Ivy wasn't sure if she should wake them up or let them rest - Cyndaquil, on the other hand - didn't think twice before releasing a loud: "Cyndaaaquil!" Which made Ivy quickly pick the pokemon up and cover it's mouth. "Don't do that, Cyndaquil! We don't even know them!"

Sully shook violently as he awoke, falling off the couch onto his face. As he tried to push himself up Piplup came crashing down on the back of his head letting out a cry of it's name. With a muffled voice Sully spoke. "What the hell was that?" Piplup rolled off his trainers head and caught sight of the new trainer who had joined the pair. She looked at them with an inquisitive gaze, before taking several steps foreward. From the corner of his eye Corbin could only make out his pokemon wandering out of view. With his face still firmly planted on the floor the young man pushed himself up and back onto the couch. For several moments he rubbed at his face after receiving some mild friction burn. As he lowered his hands he finally saw the other trainer in the room.

He took a moment to register the girl in front of him, still reeling from his impromptu nap. He bashfully lowered his head and rubbed at the back of his neck as the embarassment took over. He tried to speak but lost his voice in the sudden onset nerves. He cleared his throat, stood up and tried to fight back the overwhelming feeling of stupidity. He forced a smile against his reddened face and reached his hand out to the girl. "Hey there. My names Corbin Sullivan but more people just call me Sully." He felt a tug on his leg and looked down to see Piplup pulling on his trousers. The pokemons eyes were wide open as it said it's name, pointing towards the girl. "And this is Piplup." Piplup let out a happy wail at being introduced, not wanting to be left out.

The boy shook violently and fell onto his face, which made Ivy giggle a bit, her left hand covering her mouth whereas the Cyndaquil just kept slamming his tiny paws against the ground while laughing loudly - only stopping after Ivy gave him a glare. The boy seemed embarrassed, lowering his head and rubbing the back of his neck - Ivy had assumed that the boy could've taken a long trip here, as not all chosen trainers lived nearby just like Ivy herself. That, or he had eaten too much and just needed a rest. Whatever reason, there was no need to be embarrassed at all. The girl looked over at the Piplup then, smiling warmly at the penguin-like pokΓ©mon.

"He's so cute! I'm Viviene Nexan but people just call me Ivy." She'd take a few steps closer and extend her hand towards the boy and if he did take it, she'd give his hand a firm shake with a gentle squeeze before retreating her hand to her side. Ivy crouched down and gestured to the Piplup, waving her right a few times in his direction. "Hello there, Piplup! This is Cyndaquil." As she introduced her own pokemon, the fire-type walked closer to the Piplup, sniffing him before standing on it's hind legs and moving his own tiny arm closer the water-type, eagerly waiting for a handshake. Ivy looked up at the boy, smiling a bit as she added; "A few years ago, these pokemon were extremely rare in Kanto, you know? I'm so glad to have my own Cyndaquil!"

The girl tried to hide her giggle but Sully could hear it, the embarassment escalating to a whole new level. She politely introduced hereself, "He's so cute! I'm Viviene Nexan but people just call me Ivy." Corbin reached out and took hold of waiting hand. He had always been brought up to be polite and courteous, manners cost nothing costantly drilled into him as he grew up. He shook Ivy's hand gently, he was much taller than she was and didn't want to come across as a clumsy oaf...even if he had just fell face first onto the floor.

He watched on as she turned her attention to Piplup, saying hello to the small water type while introducing her own Cyndaquil. A grin forced it's way onto Sully's face as the two pokemon played human and exchanged a handshake. The cuteness of the sight was too much for even him to handle. He tried to compose himself, stretched his mouth open wide as if to fake a yawn. You're eighteen, start acting like it, he thought to himself.

"A few years ago, these pokemon were extremely rare in Kanto, you know? I'm so glad to have my own Cyndaquil!" Sully responded with a somewhat excited tone. "Well you have got yourself a winner there it looks." He cast a glance to the small fire type and threw it a warm smile. "I've spent quite a bit of time looking into the Institute and the work they have done for pokemon conservation is amazing Like you said, you couldn't have ever dreamt of getting a Cyndaquil in Kanto until the last decade or so. Pokemon being specific to particular regions is no longer a thing." Pausing for a moment Sully sighed, looking Ivy square in the eyes. "I cannot wait to see them a..."

Before he could finish a loud monotone sound came from the TV. Grabbing his attention he turned to see Professor Oak's face on the TV. Without hesitation the professor began to speak.

Welcome everyone, i'm Professor Arianna Oak! Unfortunately I cannot be there with you all due to some important business but this pre-recorded message should cover everything! Let me start by saying congratulations on winning the Oak Institute Trainer Program lottery. At this time each and every one of the twenty winners has completed orientation which means that it is time for you all to begin your journeys. You will explore the Region of Kanto, for some of you that will be home, others an entirely new place and experience. Whatever is the case, this experience will change your lives and give you a new perspective on our world. I could go on for hours about what you should do or what you may encounter, but where is the fun in that? Each and every group will now receive a message on their Pokedex explaining what your first task is. Once that is out of the way you'll have an opportunity to do whatever you like, whether it be a case of challenging a gym or just hunting some pokemon. So with that I bid you all farewell and goodluck!

Professor Oak's face faded from the TV and simultaneously each and every person's Pokedex, no matter the room, pinged as it received a message. The messages we're unique to each room and laid out what she wanted them to do. The destinations were clear but how the groups would get there was entirely up to them. This was to be their journey, their story and it would unfold through their own actions and decisions. For Sully he looked down at his message and began reading.

"I'm not sure how comfortable I feel about this but I guess we have to do it. What do you think?" Sully looked to Ivy to see what she wanted to do.

"I cannot wait to see them a..." The boy was interrupted by a loud and monotone voice that came from the television in the room. Ivy immediately turned to face towards it, her hands moving behind her, clasping together behind her back, finger curling around each other. Soon, Professor Arianna Oak began to speak - first congratulating them for winning the Ol lottery, then giving them a few hints of what they could expect in the near future. She also mentioned a task that were requested of them before they could move onwards freely, at this moment, Ivy already reached for her pokΓ©dex a few seconds before it pinged with a new message. She looked down at it, biting on her lower lip while thinking about this new task and potential adventure.

The task directed them toward Mt. Moon, near Pewter City. Ivy raised her hand and placed it atop her mouth as she read the next bit, murmuring a soft "That's terrible." and then continued scrolling the message down to finish it. She'd place her pokedex away once again, turning to face towards Sully who seemed slightly doubtful about the whole ordeal. She'd look to Cyndaquil, then to Piplup, tapping a gentle finger against her chin apparently considering the whole thing in her own mind. It took a brief while for her to speak and reply.

"Look, we should do it..." Ivy began, squatting down and picking up Cyndaquil, she gave the pokΓ©mon a few pets in the head before whispering softly to him. The pokΓ©mon nodded and then she took the pokΓ©mon's pokΓ©ball from her waist and opened it, the creature being absorbed by a flash of red light inside the small compartment. "But we should train before. I mean, if these gold diggers have been using explosives there, they will certainly fight us back, right? And as far as I know, Mt. Moon hosts a fair share of rock and ground types. Your Piplup will do good there, but my Cyndaquil... You get what I mean, right?"

Ivy paced around, moving from one side to the other for a few seconds. She'd finally stop and look directly at Sully, smiling warmly. "Well, maybe we could head north towards Viridian Forest and catch pokΓ©mon there! What do you think?"

Corbin nodded in agreement with everything his new partner was saying, watching her pace back and forth. Her Cyndaquil followed behind her trying to imitate each and every action made, the pokemon was already starting to grow on him. Finally she stopped moving and offered a question. "Well, maybe we could head north towards Viridian Forest and catch pokΓ©mon there! What do you think?"

Everything Ivy had said made perfect sense and it wasn't hard for him to agree with her suggestion. "That's a great idea. I mean from research I did it used to be a place heavy on bug types. These days there are plenty of grass types and if you stick close to the ponds, even a few water types." Sully scratched at his chin before kneeling down next to his Piplup. "So what do you think? Shall we get going and try to find you some new friends?" The Piplup smiled and let out a joyful cry.

Returning upright Sully looked at Ivy unable to contain his excitement, the smile on his face stretched ear to ear. "So then...let's get going!" Returning Piplup to his pokeball, Sully barrelled towards the door. "Last one to the bus station has to carry the bags!" Before Ivy could respond Sully had opened the door and emerged into the brightness of the outside world. He covered his eyes as they tried to adjust, squinting to find his way out of the institute grounds. When they'd finally adjusted he looked bemused. He had emerged on what he could only assume was the side of the building. Oh crap...maybe I should have thought this through...

Sully told her that Viridan Forest used to be a solid place to catch bug types, but now, grass types and even water types were present in the area. These were marvelous news, Ivy giving a smirk when he mentioned making new friends, her hand reaching over the pokeball with Cyndaquil as her index finger tapped gently against the surface of the object. "Of course! I mean, I know trainers usually stick with six but I want to make as many friends as possible, you know?" Her smirk shifted into a wide smile before she began stepping forwards, heading towards the exit door.

Sully challenged her to a race as he went ahead and opened the door. The bright light invaded the room, Ivy stepping outside with a hand raised over her eyes, blinking a few times until her eyes adapted to the sun. She'd look from side to side, scanning the new area with widen eyes, it was enormous - she had probably seen a small portion of this place when her father was driving her here. Wow, it looks like this is endless field. She thought to herself, slowly turning to look at Sully, both of her arms moving to the side as she shrugged.

"Um. I will deny your challenge for now." Ivy giggled a little before she continued. "But I'd love to know if you know how to get in the bus station from here - I... I'm not really that good with directions, you know. Maybe I should buy a map if I have the chance..."

"Awww you're no fun..." Sully laughed jokingly at Ivy, he had a good feeling the two would get on well. She soon asked him for directions to the station at which point he came to a realisation...he was lost. The exit he had taken was at a totally different place to the entrance. He could feel his anxiety levels rising before a thought crossed his mind. He dove into his trouser pocket with his hand and removed his pokedex. He opened it and shuffled through the menu. "There it is!" he exclaimed loudly.

Turning to Ivy he showed her what looked to be a GPS map with a position marked on it. "It appears that these things come installed with maps. I guess they function alot like modern phones." A voice came from the pokedex, "Turn left in 300 yards." Sully groaned. "I can't handle the voice being on a GPS." Poking at the screen of his pokedex some more he eventually found the option to turn the voice off.

"So it looks like the bus station is only a fifteen minute walk away. The map marks a few other nearby locations including a pokemart. Would be worth stopping there to get some supplies and stuff for the trip. I know it's not a long bus ride to Viridian City but could do with a couple of bottles of water and things. What do you think?" He smiled at Ivy waiting for her response.
