The Black Veil
a gothic horror RP set in post-war Berlin, 1947
Hey folks, I'm putting out a feeler to see if anyone would be interested in a gothic horror roleplay set in Berlin in the aftermath of World War II — specifically, 1947. The city’s in ruins, split between occupying powers, and weighed down by trauma, guilt, and the kinds of things that thrive in the shadows when everything else falls apart.
The idea here isn’t a fast-paced action story, but something slower, eerie, and atmospheric. Think ruined cathedrals, fog-choked streets, flickering lights, and whispers you’re not sure you really heard. There’s something old moving beneath Berlin — something that didn't die with the war.
“Some things survived the bombings. Some things woke up.”
Tone / Themes:
- Gothic horror with a post-war historical setting
- Slow-burn mystery, unsettling encounters, paranoia
- Grief, loss, trauma — personal and collective
- A bit of occult weirdness, but nothing flashy
- Moral ambiguity and heavy atmosphere
What this isn’t:
- Superpowers or combat-heavy storytelling
- A zombie apocalypse or monster hunt
- A full-on history simulation — I’ll lean into the setting and mood, but we’re not writing term papers here
Writing level:
Casual. A couple solid paragraphs per post would be great. I’m not expecting perfection.
Looking for:
5-9 people who enjoy character driven horror with a lot of mood and mystery. No character sheets yet — just checking who’s interested before I get deeper into world details.
If that sounds like your kind of story, drop a reply,
