Charlie sat on a bench taking a moment to collect her thoughts. On the one hand, she was somewhat grateful. Despite the tragedy that had happened only a month prior, she was only charged with hefty fines for negligence in exchange for agreeing to testify in court when the next trial regarding the potential guilt or innocence of her peers would occur. However, she knew deep down her fellow coworkers were innocent. She was innocent. But, unless she could provide proof of said innocence, the most she could hope for was to try to plea for lesser sentences.

A soft cooing sound emitted from her backpack temporarily interrupting her thoughts.

"Shh, little one." she whispered softly into the bag, "You need to stay quiet, remember? Nobody else can know about you."

The cooing subsided and she let out a sigh of relief. Now she could get back to her thoughts as she waited for whoever had been sent to talk to her about the upcoming trial.

Cameron Price sat silently on the bench of the cafe with a cup of steaming hot coffee and a plain toasted bagel in front of him. In his hands he held one of the local papers; he fake-read it quietly as his eyes scanned the surrounding area every couple of seconds casually. "Target's location is still undetermined, Lieutenant. Do you have a visual on your end?" Price did not speak, but he shook his head side to side to indicate that he did not. Reaching forward, he picked up the cup of dark roast and took a sip out of it before setting it back down on the table. Pulling his foot forward, a brown military-style boot scooted a black leather briefcase back more under the table as a lady and her daughter passed by; the little girl giggled as they started to cross the street. "Is this guy even going to show up here? This place is just too damn normal." Another voice broke through on the headset in Price's ear; there was slight derision in the tone. "Not every terrorist picks desolate landscapes for attacks, Byers. Perhaps you're just homesick from not having to shoot anything for a couple days." Price smiled to himself as Sandoval retorted back. "No... just sick of bird watching in this godforsaken park. I signed up to shoot B.O.W.'s, not watch children jumping off swings and skinning their knees." Price flipped the page of the newspaper as he looked at a man approaching in a suit with a cellphone to his ear; he listened for a moment—something about stock prices. "You almost sound like you want this maniac to release something, Byers." There was an audible scoff that came through the headset as the man in the suit climbed into a small red convertible on the street and pulled away moments later.

"Don't even joke like that. As boring as this is, I am kind of hoping that he doesn't show at all; there are too many innocent people here. Better to be trigger itchy than to have a thousand innocents turning into monsters." Price remained silent as his men spoke. Byers was right about that; this place practically screamed, "Attack me!" To release something here, the devastation would be quick and absolute. "Well, I'll be damned, big bad Byers actually has a heart in that mechanical body. Make sure to lube up just in case it rains; I would hate to see you rust." Price chuckled lowly to himself as Byers said "fuck you" more to himself than anything. These two were a handful to be sure; in fact, the BSAA was two steps from discharging them because of their less than professional attitudes, but Price found their personalities just right for the kind of work that his particular group did. There was no doubt that the BSAA was on the forefront of all biological attacks and that there were countless men and women who gave their lives to it. However, it had become glaringly obvious that something was going on within the BSAA itself. After the Baker Incident and the Eastern Europe incident, it became all too obvious that the BSAA was doing more than just fighting B.O.W.'s. The way they covered up the Baker Incident and Chris's going rogue with the Hound Wolf Squad.

Chris was as anti-B.O.W. and dedicated as they came; for him to go behind the BSAA like that meant something, especially to Price. He may not have been in this fight as long as Chris—hell, he was only ten when the Raccoon City incident went down—but he knew enough to know when things were not as black and white as the higher-ups liked to make it seem. There was absolutely no explanation for the use of B.O.W.'s by the very organization that claimed to be fighting against such things. Thus, a new part of the BSAA was formed in secret, a small, dedicated group whose sole purpose was to suss out the conspiracy that seemed to persist in the high echelons of the BSAA. There were still those dedicated to ending the bioweapon threat once and for all, but that would never happen if the BSAA was part of that problem. Sir, I have a confirmed visual on the target; they are heading in your direction from the east. Target has a metal briefcase with them." Price looked up silently from his newspaper as a man slowly came into view. He was a lengthy man, maybe five foot ten, with dirty blonde hair slicked back. He was dressed in a rather crisp suit, eyes hidden behind a pair of thin dark sunglasses. Price's eyes locked onto the briefcase he held; even from a distance he could see the telltale signs that it was not a normal case. "Confirmed visual, that's our man. Looks like he is holding a hazardous case."

"Damn... don't tell me that he is really going to initiate a biological attack here..."Byers' voice was etched with concern; Price could relate. The truth was that he did not know what this man planned to do. The tip they had received was that this individual was traveling to a predetermined location that was relatively close to this location. If there was to be an attack, that was not verified, but the fact that the intel was right on the money was worrying. This area was more dense and full of people; even one infected could possibly turn into the next Raccoon City, and that was a fact. He had seen the newest strains; the infection rate was almost instantaneous. In hours, even from patient zero, this whole city would be overrun. "What are our orders, sir?" Price received the question as he stood up and grabbed the case from the ground. The man would pass by, almost oblivious to the fact that he was under surveillance, or maybe he knew and just didn't care. "Byers, I want you to take up position at the meeting site we got from the intel. Sandoval I want you to follow at a distance in case we need to act quickly; keep watch for any unknown factors. I will follow the target and relay any possible changes to the situation. We do not have room for error; if this bastard even alludes to opening that case, we TAKE HIM OUT, Intel be damned."

Both men would confirm their received orders as Price picked up the coffee cup and bagel and tossed them idly into the trash can nearby. Leaving some money on the table, he adjusted his faded bomber jacket as his Nine-O-Nine showed just ever so briefly as he passed by a woman sitting on a bench as he got behind the target.

"Excuse me." Charlie spoke looking up as she noticed someone walk past her, "Are you here to see someone? I was told to wait here for a meeting. Though, I was never told who I was waiting for or what he or she looks like. Oh, the joys of bureaucracy. Jokes and sarcasm aside, I'm Dr. Everson, but you can call me Charlie."
He backpack shuffled subtly as whatever was inside shifted position.

As Price would turn at the sound of a woman's voice, he was at first oblivious to the woman's identity; he opened his mouth to politely decline her query as to if he was here to see someone, but looking upon her face, he realized with a dawning concern that this was Charlie Everson; there was little doubt. He remembered her from the dossier; during a previous outbreak, he had never seen her in person, but she was a splitting image of the woman they were secondarily tasked to apprehend for engineering the outbreak. Damn, what the hell was this woman doing here? It almost seemed to be too much of a coincidence that the day a possible outbreak attack was to occur, the one responsible for another just happened to be sitting nearby. The truth was, he did not have time for this; quickly looking in the opposite direction, the man ahead was slowly disappearing down the road. "Sir, is that Dr. Everson?" Sandoval's voice came through his headset; there was a tad bit of concern in his voice. Price was silent; he had a decision to make. While he was well aware that Charlie Everson claimed innocence over the outbreak that caused the destruction of the surrounding town by Lazarus Corporation, it was not proven, and there was no way to know what she was here for. "Sandoval, change of plans, I need to continue pursuit of the target; keep me apprised of his activities."

"You got it, Sir." Price spoke the words as he looked at Everson with derision etched into his face. It was no lie that he had no love for people like this who screwed around with bioweapons and even less love for those who unleashed them on innocent people. Price had intended to reach for his firearm, but the problem was that he was in a crowded area, and drawing a weapon on a woman could cause a panic, and that alone could blow their cover. But he had to do something, and it had to be quick; he could ill afford to just leave this woman here with so many unknown factors. He could prevent one outbreak so another one could start. "Miss Everson, it is almost ironic that you and I would meet like this, especially on the day that another possible outbreak might occur. My name is Price, and I work for the BSAA. Once upon a time, you were a target of interest that I was assigned to apprehend during the Lazarus Incident. I am aware that you have claimed innocence for that attack, and I honestly do not believe you, but my personal beliefs aside, I find myself in a delicate situation, Miss Everson. My instinct is to detain you, but if I do so, then many thousands of people could possibly be at risk today. So, if you truly are innocent, then I need you to come with me, now, no questions asked."

"O-Of course." Charlie looked at Price in surprise. "If the BSAA needs me for anything, I'll be happy to oblige. Let me know where you wish to take me and I will follow."
She stood up and grabbed her backpack preparing the follow the soldier. Charlie wasn't sure if this was the person she was intended to meet, but he did sound urgent and the last thing she wanted was to cause any sort of commotion. Besides, she knew better than to question authority, especially given her current situation.

"I can't tell you too much, but time is not on my side; I'm in pursuit of a target of interest that is currently in the city. I need you to follow me closely, but I feel obligated to warn you that this individual in question is possibly carrying a new strain of virus. I'm sure you can understand that your being here at the same time as this man is suspicious. But if this is a legitimate threat, then I cannot afford to be tied up with you, Miss Everson. This individual is heading to a location up this road. To do what, I don't know, and I intend to find out. I am going to trust your being here is pure coincidence for now, but if you give me reason, I will take you down. Understand that I will not risk these innocent people's lives. Come on, behind me, and please keep up." Price was direct and resolute in his words as he turned and quickly started to make his way further down the road; he was sure to keep a certain distance from the target as they came back into view. "Byers, what's the sit rep at your location?" Price kept his head on a swivel as he made sure to keep his surrounding area under surveillance for possible threats. "Peaceful; there are no civilians in this area. It's almost a bit unsettling if I'm being honest. If this was an attack, then it makes me wonder, why such a secluded location?" That was weird, but the fewer innocents in the area, the better, so he would take that small blessing. "Sandoval, have you spotted anything out of the ordinary?" . Price quickly put his hand back as he stopped moving and motioned Charlie over to the side as he took cover on the side of a nearby building.

"Negative, just people going about their days. I got a bad feeling, sir." Price watched silently from around the corner; the target had stopped moving and had a phone to his ear. He wished like hell he could hear what was being said, but he could ill afford to let himself be known just yet. As he watched, the man would lower the phone from his ear and slip it into his pocket; without any hesitation, he would turn around and look directly at Price with a more than sinister smile on his face. Damn! He knew that he was being watched; the man would raise the biohazard case. That was more than enough; Price quickly took his sidearm out and stepped around the corner. "Sandoval, the target is aware! Take the shot! Now!" It was perhaps seconds before a shot rang out over to the right of the target; the effect was instantaneous as people nearby quickly started to panic. The man ahead of them dropped the case as it clattered to the ground; a large wound was festering in his shoulder. Price began to move fast "Move, Everson! Stay behind me!" He raised his gun at the target, who just smiled even wider as he turned and started to flee down the road in the ensuing chaos. "Target is on the move! Sandoval, keep your eyes on him; Byers, he is still heading towards you! Hold position!" Price quickly slid to the ground as he grabbed the case and gave it a quick once-over; it was unharmed, it seemed, and it did not seem to have any kind of timer on it to indicate it was going to explode.

In fact, the case was suspiciously light; he knew it was a horrible idea, but he quickly slid up the latches and carefully opened it. When he realized it was empty, his face dropped. "The case is empty; repeat, the case is empty! It was a decoy; the subject may have the virus on them! We have to move and intercept now! If we can, we need to take him in a place without civilians!" Price gave the command as people all around him were still running and panicking from the earlier gunshot. "We have to move, Everson! Let's go!" In his haste Price was unaware that the spot where the stranger had been shot suspiciously had no blood discharge at all, as if his arm had never been hit.

"Regeneration. Healing fast from potentially fatal wounds." Charlie made note as she followed after Price, "No signs of necrosis so T-virus is out of the question. There's also no sign of mutation so I can also rule out G-virus or G-Neo. Veronica, possibly. Progenitor is also a potential but not as likely. If my research is accurate, the last known strain was destroyed back in Africa years ago."
A muffled series of confused gurgling could be faintly heard coming from her backpack.

"Move!" Price yelled the command as they followed the target down an alley; a nearby man quickly fell backwards back into a door with a container of God knows what that splashed all over him. Price raised his gun, but ahead he could still see civilians in the distance. He lowered it, cursing to himself; this bastard knew well enough that with civilians around him they were less likely to shoot, but the real question was how long had he known they were following him? He would like to say that phone call had been the thing that blew their cover, but in his gut he did not think that was the case, especially with that decoy case. This man was leading them on a chase, and he was certain this was part of the plan. "Sir, I'm cutting down a fire escape; we can box him in right here and now!" Sandoval was quick as he quickly smashed into the metal lattice and quickly started moving down it. "Do it!" Price gave the command as Sandoval quickly descended and let his boots hit the ground and started up the opposite side of the alley. They had him, or so he thought. He never expected what happened next. The target, seeing Sandoval coming up in front of him, leapt from the ground to the left and hit the brick of the building and crawled along it like a damn spider at a high speed. Sandoval had no time to even react as he passed by with little effort and jumped back to the ground as he kept running. "What the fuck!" Sandoval swore loudly as the man passed by him. "What the hell is he!?!?" Sandoval shouted the question as Price ran by him; Sandoval quickly followed after raising his gun. "No! Too many civilians!" Sandoval lowered his gun as he swore under his breath.

"Byers! The target might possibly be a B.O.W.! Price and Sandoval busted out into the street as the target, who was just up the road, turned towards them. "He's a what!? Are you serious!?" Price didn't respond as he saw the young woman in the target's grasp; a dart gun was in his hand and pressed to her neck harshly. Price raised his gun as Sandoval did the same; all around, people had their phones out, presumably recording or calling the police. "Ah, Price, so good to see you again. They told me you and your cronies might be here waiting, but I just couldn't resist." Price took a step forward, but the target tightened his hold on the woman and pulled the trigger on the dart gun halfway back, stopping him in his tracks. "Let her go, Nikolai." Price said the words spitefully as Sandoval looked over at him in slight confusion. "You know each other?" Price didn't answer as Nikolai chuckled softly to himself. "Oh Price, I am so, so, sad that you never told your team about me. I thought I meant more to you than that, my old friend." Nikolai laughed as Price felt his face etch into anger. "Don't get high on yourself, Niko; you're just a part of the past, and after today you won't be a part of the future." `Tsk tsk tsk` "Is that any way to talk to your old superior? It's no wonder the BSAA wants to get rid of you, just like that rogue Chris Redfield." Price said nothing to the remark as he put his finger on the trigger and prepared to shoot Niko in the head.

Charlie trembled in fear as she held her backpack close to her. She didn't want anyone innocent getting hurt and she certainly didn't want anyone getting ahold of what was in her bag. For the time being, Price was the only thing between her and potential certain death. The backpack began trembling as soft whimpering could be heard.
"Shh..." she whispered hoping no one would notice, "It's ok, little one."

"Uh-uh, don't even think about it, Price; you take that shot, and I guarantee this beautiful young lady will be dead. I am not here to start an outbreak, but if that's what you desire, I can make that a reality. We all know what Raccoon City was, and this, this will be much worse." Price slowly took his finger off the trigger; Niko was right. The fact that he had abilities like a B.O.W. made it impossible to know if a headshot would even kill him now. "What do you want, Niko? Why are you here?" Price's ears perked up as he heard sirens coming in the distance; the last thing he needed was the police stumbling into this and making this situation even worse, but there was nothing he could do about that now. "Why am I here? That's simple; I want Charlie Everson, and as fate would have it, you brought her right to me. I knew you were watching, so I couldn't approach her. I had intended to lose you at the rendezvous point and acquire her later, but it seems that's no longer necessary." Price furrowed his brow as he slightly looked back at Everson. "You seem confused, but I'm afraid I have no desire to explain it to you. Miss Everson, you desire to prove your innocence, for yourself and the others. Come with me, and I can guarantee the world will know your innocence. My employers require your assistance with a little problem they have been having. You help us, and we help you; it seems like a good deal." Price drew his full attention back to Niko as he shook his head: "That is not happening, Niko. I don't know why you want her, but you are not leaving here with this woman." Niko lost his smile slowly as it was replaced with a scowl.

"Stay out of it, Price; you have meddled enough. I've grown tired of your sticking your nose in my business, and you can tell Chris the next time you see him that if he insists upon keeping you as his bloodhound, there will be death on a scale he could never possibly imagine. Now give me the wom..." The shot rang out like a firecracker exploding; Niko's head would explode from the front as a bullet tore through it and damn near struck Price before it struck a wall. Niko would let go of the woman he was holding as he staggered back; there was a chorus of screaming from the crowd as Byers ran into the fray, his rifle aimed high. "Get the woman!" Sandoval would waste no time as he lunged forward to grab the woman; however, Niko would raise the dart gun in his hand as he pointed it directly at Byers. "Bastard!" Byer would have no chance as the release from the barrel of the gun, "Byers!" Sandoval would yell as he launched himself sideways and jumped in front of Byers just barely; the dart struck him in the shoulder. Sandoval hit the ground as he quickly ripped the dart out, but it was too late; almost immediately a black mist started to sizzle like hot fire from the injection point. "Sandoval!!" Price yelled in anger as he raised his weapon and shot Niko four times dead center in the chest, knocking the man to the ground. "Get the civilians away! Now!!!!" Price yelled the command as Byers quickly raised his weapon and started firing wildly into the air : "Move! All of you!" The civilians around them, in fear, started to run in different directions, going for whatever cover they could find.

Just then, three cop cars pulled in as several officers exited the vehicles and took position behind the doors of the cruisers: "Drop your weapons! Now!" Price would draw his attention back to Sandoval as a guttural scream released from his throat. Everyone's attention was drawn to the ailing man as he flipped over on his stomach and climbed onto all fours, breathing hard. "Sandoval!" Byers would yell and run for his friend. Price tried to scream for Byers to stay away, but it was too late. Sandoval's arm shot sideways with a sickening crack as Byers was struck and ragdolled away; he struck a nearby car and crumpled to the ground. Sandoval's body was shooting dark jets of black mist now as his skin cracked and red blood dripped down in large pools all around him. The black mist would almost engulf the officers like a living thing; they started to cough violently as they fell to their knees trying to breathe. Price, as much as it pained him, raised his gun. "I'm sorry, my brother..." Price pulled the trigger as a bullet tore from the barrel and struck Sandoval directly in his head. Sandoval's head would explode in a cascade of skull and gray matter before his body would fall down to the ground and lie still.

Price had barely lowered his gun when Niko appeared in front of him as if he had been invisible; the hand struck him dead center as Price flew back hard and smacked into the nearby brick wall. Niko would crack his neck left then right as he drew his attention to Charlie. "Miss Everson, I believe we were discussing your coming to work for my employers." The smile would return to his face.

Charlie frowned as she watched the chaos erupting all around her.
"Your employers?" she asked suspiciously, "Who might they be? I refuse to help anyone I'm not familiar with or who may have alternate motives to my own. All I'm after is to prove my, and Lazarus' innocence, and to ensure the safety and whereabouts of the clones. Especially Birkin. I promised..."
She took a deep breath before reaching into her backpack and pulling out a small creature. It was rust-red in color and blob like in shape. Several tentacles waved about curiously as a pair of large orange eyes darted about in various directions. The blob let out a soft cooing and gurgling sound making it clear that, despite its grotesque appearance, it was of no danger to anyone.
"I promised him I would keep this little one safe." Charlie continued, "He somehow ended up with me when the incident happened last month. I call him "Junior". Please, don't let anything happen to him."

Niko looked at the creature in her hands with indifference, fully aware of the experiments that had taken place at Lazarus. So it was of no surprise that this woman had a docile B.O.W. considering her research. "My employers prefer to remain anonymous; you can understand there are many who would love nothing more than to bring harm to them, bring harm to me, and of course, bring harm to the creature you hold in your hands. People like Price, they only see monsters; they do not see anything beyond that. Me, I've progressed beyond such narrow views. Soon the world will understand that B.O.W.'s are not monsters but the next step in human evolution. I am but a small example of what humans can be—no more frailty, no more disease, and no more fear of death. You and Junior will never have to ever be afraid again." The laugh that would erupt would draw Niko's attention. Price was back on his feet; the case he had carried before opened beside him as he held what appeared to be a pistol of sorts. Before Niko could do anything, a small needle-like projectile struck him in the neck. "Price... you son of a bitch." Niko tried to reach up to grab the dart in his neck, but his whole body stiffened like a board as he fell backwards and slapped the ground. "Still spouting that same bullshit, Niko? I promise you if you go with him, you will never see the light of day again, Miss Everson." Price approached Everson as he saw the creature that she held in her hands; his first instinct was to shoot the creature, but he had been listening to Everson moments ago, and it was obvious that she cared for the creature.

Niko was right in a way; to him a B.O.W. was a B.O.W., but he could ill afford to nitpick right now. If his employers wanted Charlie Everson, then he could not allow them to persuade her to join them. Whatever they were planning, it would be nothing less than the end of the world. Price looked over at Byers and then at Sandoval; both of them were dead. He couldn't help but feel responsible for this; they were his men, and he had let them down. "Miss Everson, I won't lie to you, that B.O.W. you hold, I believe it needs to be destroyed, but I am not going to do that so long as it does not become a threat. Niko is right, I hate B.O.W.s, but I am not blinded by my hate, unlike Niko, who is blinded by his ambitions. I can't promise you that I can clear your name, but if you're truly innocent, then I will do what I can to help you but you need to come with me. I'm asking, not forcing. Please come with me and not him."

She looked over at Price and nodded before gently coaxing Junior back into her backpack.
"I'll go with you." Charlie spoke, "I don't know what that Niko guy was going on about, but it sounded absolutely insane. The next step in human evolution? My research was to try to find new ways to treat viruses through cloning. Maybe not cure them, but certainly provide vaccinations using the clones' blood. It would at the very least reduce outbreaks by a significant margin."
With that in mind, she began to follow Price. She wasn't sure where they were going, or if anyone else would be after them. Charlie wasn't much of a fighter. Sure, she did carry a pocket knife in case she needed to defend herself. But, she couldn't say with absolute certainty if it would actually be of any use to her or anyone else.
"If you need me to supply any more information, let me know." she pointed out, "I can give you all the details I know about my work. The only thing I cannot do is tell you where the clones are. Even I don't know that."
Her backpack shuffled a bit as Junior made himself comfortable once again. She let out a sigh of relief and a bit of a smile.

"Niko is insane. Once upon a time, when I was new to the BSAA, he was my commanding officer. Even then he was peculiar; his beliefs when it came to bioweapons were... extreme. Always had this idea that instead of trying to eliminate all bioweapons, we should take the technology and use it for the good of all mankind. He is not the first one to think this way, and he won't be the last, obviously. The problem is that everyone who ever tried has always succumbed to the virus. But I never expected that Niko would willingly infect himself... to actually infect himself. Damn him, damn him to hell. Price was angry; his men were dead, and even worse, he couldn't even do anything about their remains. This whole mission had gone sideways, and he had no backup to help him. Given a choice, he would have made sure to properly care for his men's remains and make sure that the area was safe again, especially after Sandoval was infected, but with Niko wanting Everson and that sedative only lasting so long, he could not afford to be anywhere near here when he could move again. This was not the way he conducted operations, but this was the consequence of going rogue. The truth of the matter was that Price did not have the support of the BSAA because of his investigation; he could not risk the higher-ups getting wind of his true intentions, so he could not bring others into this assignment without the risk that they could be part of the conspiracy.

"We have to get as much distance between us and Niko as humanly possible; that sedative I shot him with is potent but experimental as well. It should keep him immobilized for an hour, but I've never had to use it on a person infected by the N-Virus to such a degree, so it could be more or could be less. There is no way to know, and I'm not sticking around to find out. If he wants you, then it's for nothing good, and given your history..." Price went silent as he approached what appeared to be a modified Humvee; walking up to the door, he opened it as he motioned Everson in, then climbed in himself and started the engine. He peeled out of the alleyway with gusto as he got on the road and sped up. "So, first things first Miss Everson, what is that creature in your pack and tell me why its not attacking you or me...

Charlie sat her backpack down before answering, "Well, for starters, Junior is only a baby. The worst he could do is give a painful bite, and even that wouldn't do any serious harm. As for what he is, he's a Golgotha Larva or G-Blob as I've come to call them. To be honest, his entire existence was completely unexpected. None of us thought that the G-virus would've mutated when we cloned William Birkin or that it would cause him to essentially be able to breed like a seahorse. And, yet, here we are."
Junior gurgled curiously as he peeked out of the backpack.
She continued, "Normally, the G-virus would be transferred via the infected implanting parasitic embryos into others as an instinctive desire to reproduce. However, Birkin's mutations have allowed him to reproduce without the need to infect others. Granted, it is still possible for him to transmit G-Neo to others. One way would be if someone were to take his, or his offsprings' blood, and inject it into their own bodies. The other way would be if he had unprotected sex with an uninfected person. I should point out that the latter is unlikely. Prior to the original's death, Birkin was married and had a child. His wife perished tragically during the Raccoon City incident and, while his daughter is alive, her whereabouts are unknown to him. And, given he had infected her back then, I can't say a family reunion is likely."

"You cloned Birkin? You told me not too long ago that your work was for the benefit of humankind through vaccinations, so how the hell is cloning Birkin helping humanity? Birkin was a walking nightmare after he was infected with the G-Virus, and now you're telling me that he is back, along with the G-Virus, and he can reproduce asexually. This is exactly what I'm talking about, Miss Everson—scientists messing with things that ought not to be messed with. What's to stop Birkin if he goes on a rampage or if that creature mutates and decides it doesn't like you or anyone else anymore?" Price couldn't help but be annoyed by this information and concerned in more than one way. How many people have died and still will die because of these damn viruses? And now Birkin is alive and well again, the man who helped create a legacy of death that still lives on even today. It was a damn insult to the people who Birkin killed and a slap in the face to the soldiers that died, even more so. "That aside for now, his daughter is quite alive and well, but I'm pretty sure she isn't lining up to have a family reunion. I'm sure, given his past indiscretions, that reunion might be violent. If Birkin is alive, then that means he is now out in the world by himself, doing god knows what, and by your own admission, you have no idea where he is right now." Price would look in his rearview mirror as he noticed a couple vehicles behind him that had been there for a suspicious amount of time. "It's nice to know that all the people Birkin killed can rest in peace now, knowing Birkin's back among the living..."

"He's aware of what he's done." Charlie frowned as she picked up Junior and cradled him in her arms, "I told him that he can't change the past. That he cannot undo what has been done. But, he can still atone for his actions. There's still the future. He can still make right with what could be."
Junior looked back at the vehicles following them and let out a series of worried clicks. He didn't know what they were, but he could tell them following him wasn't good.
Charlie spoke again while gently stroking Junior, "If it's of any relief to you, back when the whole incident happened, I told Birkin and the others to avoid people as much as possible. That it would be too dangerous for everyone if they ended up in any populated area. And, given I haven't heard from anybody since, I think he's heeded my words."
As they continued on, Junior kept watching the vehicles that followed. He still was wary of them, but Charlie's presence kept him calm.
"And, the whole cloning thing?" Charlie pointed out, "We needed living infected tissue to work with in order to work on an effective vaccination and/or treatment. It's important to study the effects of the virus and any potential treatment on a living specimen to ensure we don't just ship out a bunch of either ineffective or worse products. Initially, we tried just cloning infected animals. That proved to be a failure when they perished within days after cloning. So, we moved onto cloning infected humans. Mutations. Steve Burnside was the first successful clone. A teenage male who had been infected by T-Veronica. It was fortunate for us that his body had acclimated to the virus since his initial death, so he had retained his mental functions. And, well, Birkin became the second clone. I've already told about him. Prior to the incident, we were preparing to start the cloning process on Lisa Trevor. Out of all the infected we were planning on cloning, there was only one I was completely against."

"I'm so glad he is aware, but you will have to excuse me if I don't feel any pity or remorse for him. The fact of the matter is that he chose to make the T-Virus; he chose to pursue the Golgotha Virus. It was his betrayal of Umbrella that led to the end of Raccoon City and thousands of people. He has caused nothing but death and destruction with everything he touched; there is no atoning for that. His death was the closest to atonement that he would ever get. How many people, Miss Everson? How many people have lost loved ones, their lives torn to shreds? How many children have had to grow up alone and see nightmares every time they close their eyes because they can't forget the horror they witnessed? It must be pretty humbling to know you were the cause of your wife's death, infected your own daughter, and were the father to something that changed the entire dynamic of the living world." Price was aware that there was a sting in his words as he spoke; it was entirely possible that as much as he was trying to be fine with the fact that his men were lying face down in their own blood, he was hurting, but even then it was obvious that there was something much deeper to his anger that was being unsaid. There was a personal undertone to his words that involved him on a deeper level. Looking in the mirror, those same vehicles were still there at the exact same distance. They were most definitely being followed. Ahead there was a side road coming up that led off into what appeared to be a wooded area. Putting his foot to the pedal, he reached down into the center console and removed what appeared to be a smoke grenade. Rolling the window down, he pushed into the handle and broke the safety as he tossed it out the window. A brilliant explosion of light and smoke covered the area as he turned sharply and hit the sideroad; he went even faster as he sped over the crest of a hill and started down the other side.

"You're quite a popular person, Miss Everson; for them to follow us this far without trying to attack us, they must be cautious so as not to harm you. I'd like to say they are after me, but I seriously doubt that. But I think I might be starting to see why they are so interested in you. Considering your cloning of ancient villains, I would say there is one such man they might want you to bring back for them. If I were trying to destroy the world, then I would definitely want that man on my payroll... The name was unspoken, but he was pretty sure that Everson knew exactly who he was referring to.

"Trust me, I'm aware." Charlie replied solemnly, "Moved three times. Been banned from lord knows how many places. Had death threats sent to me in more languages than I was aware even existed."
Junior let out a startled yelp from the flash and burrowed his head into Charlie's side.
"They don't like bright lights. Their eyes are sensitive to them." she explained while cradling Junior, "Where are we going?"

Deep in the forest, a man sat by a campfire. He brushed his hair out of his face as he grabbed another chunk of deer meat and ate it. It was the only life he had ever known outside of that building. Ever since he, his father, and his siblings had to flee the laboratory and head into the wilderness for their own safety. After that, he had found himself on his own surviving on the local wildlife.

Hawking didn't mind the solitary life, however. He enjoyed the quiet and the sounds of nature. Humans could be so bothersome and noisy. At least, that's the impression he got from his father's description of them. They weren't all bad, though. That one human lady that helped them out of the laboratory was pretty nice. Hawking just hoped that she and his little brother had gotten out safely too.
