Agernath Solas, The Blade of Light

Basic Identity

Name: Agernath Solas
Alias: The Blade of Light
Age: 35
Gender: Male
Race: Aasimar
Occupation: Battle-Brother of the Order of the Eternal Light
Affiliation: Order of the Eternal Light

Core Concept

A veteran holy warrior shaped to bring decisive end to unnatural darkness, carrying both divine light and something far less understood within him.

Agernath does not hesitate when action is required. As he commits, doubt gives way to clarity, and clarity to inevitability.

The only question left is whether he can choose to stop—or whether, when the moment comes, he will no longer want to.

Appearance

Artwork by theDURRRRIAN

Height: 6’0”
Build: Broad, heavily muscled
Hair: Shoulder-length black
Eyes: Pale white-blue, faintly luminous

Presence:
Quietly commanding. Controlled until action is required—then singular and immovable.

Notable Features:
A faint, constant radiance beneath the skin that intensifies under stress.

Armor:
Royal blue adamantine plate with gold trim

Personality

Core Traits: Disciplined, resolute, burdened, measured, unwavering

Temperament:
Controlled and deliberate. Narrows under pressure.

Values:
  • Order must be maintained
  • The vulnerable must be protected
  • Evil is to be ended, not negotiated with

Social Behavior:
  • Formal and respectful
  • Speaks little, observes more
  • Acts without drawing attention to it

Habits:
  • Sleeps lightly
  • Positions himself deliberately in any space
  • Ends conversations once their purpose is fulfilled

Motivation & Conflict

Primary Goal: Eliminate sources of unnatural darkness

Secondary Goals:
  • Maintain control in combat
  • Understand the true nature of the Light within him

Fears:
  • Losing the ability to choose restraint
  • Realizing he no longer wants to

Internal Conflict:
He no longer hesitates in the moment.
The conflict comes after—when it felt necessary… and easier than it should have.

Abilities & Skillset

Primary:
  • Greatsword combat (efficient, decisive)
  • Radiant smiting and divine channeling
  • Frontline control

Secondary:
  • Battlefield positioning
  • Threat prioritization
  • Reading intent and escalation

Special Abilities:
  • Radiant-enhanced spellcasting (Paladin/Warlock)
  • Light-based magic and pressure
  • Divine Sense

Internal Experience:
Using his power sharpens perception and reduces hesitation. As pressure increases, thought narrows into clarity, and action becomes easier the more he commits. Continued engagement reinforces this state, making it increasingly difficult to question or disengage.

Limitations:
  • Power intensifies under stress and injury
  • Darkness creates psychological strain
  • Sustained engagement narrows awareness and reduces adaptability
  • Once fully engaged, disengagement becomes difficult

Strengths & Weaknesses

Strengths:
  • Highly controlled combatant
  • Unshakable resolve
  • Exceptional focus
  • Endurance under pressure

Weaknesses:
  • Overcommits when a target must be ended
  • Struggles to disengage
  • Narrow worldview
  • Growing reliance on the blade’s clarity

Equipment

Greatsword of Vengeance — Teronis’ Blade

A magical greatsword that cannot be willingly released.

When Agernath commits to a target, the blade reinforces that focus. Strikes become more precise and decisive the longer engagement is maintained, as if the path to resolution is being steadily cleared.

This blade is not simply a weapon.
It is the result of Teronis’ death, his will, and the Light’s intervention merging into something enduring.

It does not rage.
It does not speak.

It clarifies.

Using it sharpens perception and reduces hesitation. As focus deepens, the world narrows to a single point of resolution, making continued action feel increasingly necessary.

This clarity comes at a cost. Sustained engagement reduces Agernath’s awareness of anything beyond his chosen target, making it difficult to disengage or respond to new threats.

If pushed too far, that narrowing becomes absolute. He may commit beyond reason, ignoring critical changes in the battlefield and resolving the wrong fight completely.

Agernath does not feel controlled.

He feels free.

Other Gear:
  • Adamantine Plate Armor
  • Warhammer
  • Javelins
  • Cloak of Protection
  • Gauntlets of Ogre Power

Background

Agernath was born marked by the Light and taken by the Order of the Eternal Light to be shaped into a weapon against darkness.

That path broke the day his mentor, Teronis, was killed in battle.

In that moment, Agernath reached beyond his limits—and something answered.

The Light did not simply empower him.
It reshaped him.

Teronis’ blade became bound to that moment, carrying forward both the will of the fallen and the force that answered Agernath’s call.

Years have passed.

What remains is not grief, but pattern.

Agernath continues forward as the Blade of Light not because he seeks to become it—
but because he already has.

Relationships

Teronis the Seer:
Mentor. Present within the blade—not as a voice, but as direction.

High Marshal Macharius:
Watches Agernath with measured trust.

Order of the Eternal Light:
Source of structure, expectation, and scrutiny.

Reputation

  • Common Folk: A distant protector
  • The Order: Reliable… and concerning
  • Enemies: A force that does not stop

Current Status

Role: Acting as both symbol and weapon of the Order
Situation: Engaging threats that do not follow known patterns

Theme

Control vs inevitability

Quote:
"No personal justice takes precedence over the world’s justice."

Hidden Truth:
The most dangerous moments are not when he loses control…
but when nothing in him tries to stop.

CAELIS VALE

Moonveil Rider of Avalan

Basic Information

Name: Caelis Vale
Age: 82
Race: Elf
Nation: Avalan
Magic Type: Mana

Description

Tall and slender, Caelis possesses the kind of beauty that often causes people to underestimate them exactly once.
Sharp crimson hair frames pale, refined features balanced delicately between masculine and feminine. Their posture is graceful without seeming fragile, movements measured with almost unsettling precision. Long fingers marked by faint scars betray years of sword practice and mana shaping alike.
Their voice rarely rises above calm conversation, even during battle. Caelis has a habit of watching people quietly before speaking, as though measuring something beneath the surface. While outwardly composed and courteous, there is a coldness hidden beneath that composure that becomes most visible during violence.
They do not enjoy cruelty.
But neither do they flinch from it when they believe it necessary.
Among the riders of the Alliance, Caelis has earned a quiet reputation as someone unnervingly difficult to provoke, manipulate, or read.

Abilities

Thornweaving
Caelis specializes in accelerated plant manipulation through mana. Roots, vines, flowers, and thorned growth can be shaped into restraints, barriers, spears, or spreading battlefield hazards.
Their control becomes more dangerous over time as terrain slowly transforms under sustained casting.
Bloodbloom
By introducing mana into wounded organic tissue, Caelis can forcibly trigger explosive floral growth from injuries, armor seams, wooden structures, or exposed surfaces.
The technique is extremely mana-intensive and risks severe magical feedback if overused.
Verdant Mend
Caelis possesses formal training in restorative mana arts centered around accelerated organic recovery.
By stimulating natural regenerative processes, they can close wounds, slow bleeding, stabilize internal injuries, reduce infection, and ease mana exhaustion.
The process is neither painless nor instantaneous. Rapid healing often manifests as thornlike vine growth, floral blooming, or rootlike patterns spreading temporarily beneath the skin before receding.
Severe injuries require extensive concentration and carry significant feedback risk.
Caelis specializes in battlefield stabilization rather than miraculous recovery.
Precision Casting
Rather than overwhelming magical force, Caelis favors efficiency, timing, and layered spellwork. They are exceptionally skilled at minimizing mana waste and exploiting openings created by terrain or psychological pressure.
Swordsmanship
Carries a slender dueling blade primarily intended for close-range defense and finishing strikes. Their fighting style prioritizes redirection, fluid movement, and precision over strength.

Background

Caelis was born to a respected Avalan household known for producing healers, scholars, and court mages. From an early age, they displayed unusual aptitude for mana manipulation, though their talents often unsettled their instructors.
Plants near Caelis did not merely grow.
They reacted.
Wilted flowers revived overnight in their presence. Thorned vines curled toward emotional distress. Forest undergrowth thickened instinctively around moments of fear, anger, or grief. What initially appeared beautiful gradually became difficult for others to fully understand.
Though trained as a healer, Caelis’ perspective changed permanently during a Kovosian border raid where they witnessed entire villages burned beneath dragonfire. Healing alone could not save everyone. Mercy and violence ceased to feel separate.
It was shortly afterward that Eiravelle chose them.
Not through combat.
Not through conquest.
Simply recognition.
Since joining the Alliance, Caelis has served both as a battlefield support mage and rider, specializing in disruption, aerial coordination, containment tactics, and battlefield recovery. While respected for their effectiveness, many fellow riders remain uncertain what exactly Eiravelle saw in them.
Caelis themselves have never answered the question.

EIRAVELLE

Moonveil Forest Dragon

Description

Eiravelle is an ancient woodland dragon native to Avalan’s oldest forests, where dense canopy, fog, and moonlight conceal creatures older than most kingdoms.
Unlike larger war-bred dragons, Moonveil dragons specialize in silence, concealment, and precision movement. Eiravelle’s body is lean and long, built for gliding through forest and mountain air with almost unnatural quiet.
Her scales are ash-gray with muted silver undertones that only truly reveal themselves beneath moonlight or mist, resembling wet stone after rainfall rather than polished metal. Darker coloration gathers naturally along her spine and shoulders while her underbelly remains pale and weathered.
Thick feathered growth runs along portions of her neck, spine, and shoulders, giving her silhouette a more animalistic appearance than many dragons. Numerous scars mark her body, especially along the flank and upper shoulders, evidence of age and survival rather than weakness.
Long crescent-shaped horns sweep backward from her skull like branching antlers, roughened by time and chipped at several points.
Silver Mist Breath
Eiravelle breathes a silver mist capable of inducing severe disorientation, distorted depth perception, heightened fear responses, and dreamlike confusion in those exposed. Riders caught within it often struggle to distinguish illusion from reality until the effect fades.
Temperament
Eiravelle rarely threatens openly. Instead, she watches long enough for most people to become uncomfortable beneath her gaze. There is an unsettling intelligence behind her silence, a constant sense that she is measuring those around her in ways they cannot fully understand.
Deeply distrustful of crowds, confinement, and loud authority, Eiravelle has little patience for arrogance or unnecessary cruelty. Yet beneath that cold wariness lies fierce loyalty. She is intensely protective of Caelis, lingering close with a near-possessive devotion that manifests less in affection and more in constant presence and quiet vigilance.
She respects restraint, honesty, patience, and competence above all else, responding far more readily to calm composure than displays of dominance or bravado. Many riders describe her as unsettling, though the creatures of Avalan’s forests seem to understand her far better. Wherever Eiravelle chooses to rest, the woods grow silent long before she is ever seen.

Bond Between Rider and Dragon

Caelis and Eiravelle are bound less through dominance and more through mutual recognition.
Both are emotionally restrained, observant, and quietly dangerous. Neither trusts easily, but once loyalty is given, it becomes fierce and enduring.
  • Eiravelle lowers her head so Caelis can rest a hand between her eyes while thinking.
  • Caelis unconsciously brushes leaves, dirt, or dried blood from her scales while speaking.
  • Eiravelle sleeps lightly, but fully relaxes only when Caelis is nearby.
  • During battle, the two coordinate with minimal words, often appearing to move as though sharing instinct rather than commands.

They do not feel like rider and mount.
They feel like two predators who chose cooperation.

Name: Kael Arashiro (Kai-el Ah-rah-shee-roh)

Age: 19

Gender: Male

Personality:

Kael remains calm, attentive, and hard to upset, even in dangerous situations. He exudes easy confidence and maintains a polite, composed demeanor that puts others at ease. Instead of dominating conversations, he prefers listening first, reading the room before speaking.

Despite his polished appearance, Kael isn't distant or cold. He enjoys socializing, values sincerity, and often treats others with patience, sometimes seeming older than he is. He invites friends to his family home, checks on people when something feels off, and naturally keeps groups grounded during tense moments. His mother often complains that he forgets to reply to texts when he disappears for training.

Kael also has a competitive streak, especially in combat. When fighting, he becomes intensely focused, controlling exchanges through movement, positioning, and timing rather than brute strength.

At his core, Kael fears helplessness and chaos more than pain. He believes that panic makes difficult situations worse and that remaining calm and collected is crucial to handling crises.

Backstory:

Kael grew up in Sagamiyama with his parents, spending much of his childhood between the city and a nearby coastal town where much of his extended family still lives. Weekends near the ocean became a regular part of his life, surrounded by warehouses, machinery, shoreline roads, hiking trails, and bustling streets filled with noise and activity.

Unlike many of his peers, Kael was raised in a stable and supportive home. His parents emphasized discipline, honesty, and responsibility without placing excessive expectations on him. Over time, he became a reliable presence in difficult situations, quietly stepping in whenever things became unstable.

Throughout his life, Kael has encountered strange phenomena: reflections moving oddly, shadows appearing without cause, and persistent pressure in empty areas. Instead of fearing these experiences, he has gradually come to accept them as part of his world.

Recently, during a fierce storm while helping evacuate civilians near a roadside warehouse district outside the city, Kael was caught in a Hollow attack. Despite sustaining serious injuries, he stayed behind to lure the Hollow away from trapped civilians.
His bravery caught the attention of Shouko Hayasegawa, who intervened before the Hollow could kill him. On the verge of death, Kael was offered the chance to become a Substitute Shinigami.

Kael accepted without asking many questions.

Since becoming a Substitute Shinigami, Kael has found it increasingly difficult to explain his injuries, disappearances, and exhaustion to those around him. Although he remains close to his family, he now carries parts of his life he can no longer fully share.

Why did you become a Substitute Shinigami:

Kael never viewed becoming a Substitute Shinigami as heroic. After witnessing the hidden dangers surrounding ordinary people firsthand, he realized he could no longer look away once he understood what existed around them.

Feats:

None currently.

Zanpakuto:

A simple wakizashi without a tsuba, kept in a matte-black sheath engraved with faint spiral patterns visible only under direct light. The hilt is wrapped in dark blue cloth with loose weaving near the base. Though unremarkable outwardly, the blade feels unusually well-balanced, lighter in movement than at rest.

Shikai:

Unavailable.

Techniques:

[Hakuda]

Nagare Sen (流れ閃, Flowing Flash)

Kael deflects attacks quickly and slips in close to counterattack while still moving. It's more about timing and positioning than hitting hard.

Suiren Kōsa (水蓮交差, Crossing Water Lotus)

A close-range fighting style with layered strikes and shifting angles. Kael constantly moves during exchanges, making it hard to predict where his next hit will come from.

[Hoho]

Kaze Ayumi (風歩み, Wind Step)

A movement technique emphasizing smooth footwork and momentum over speed bursts. He uses it to stay mobile and avoid being locked into direct exchanges.

Engetsu Kaiki (円月回帰, Returning Crescent)

After attacking, Kael repositions with circling movements instead of resetting his stance, maintaining pressure without losing momentum.

None.
