"Oh, trust me...Boring left three hours ago."

She slowed the van as the old buildings of Black Hollow came into view, rain glistening across the empty streets.

"Hotel should be just ahead."

Another glance out the windshield.

"Everybody stay together."

"I've already had enough surprises for one day."

She killed the engine and climbed out, stretching after the long drive.

Her gaze swept over the quiet main street.

"...This place gives me bad feeling."

She looked back at Liza.

"But we're here."

She jerked her head toward the hotel.

"Come on. Before you invent another emergency."

she shakes her head with a laugh and grabs her bag before jogging after her.

"If you trip before we even check in, I am leaving you there."

Before she could grab everything, she reached over and took one of the bags from liza's hands.

"And don't get too proud."

A grin tugged at the corner of her mouth.

"You only got here first because I let you."

Kimberly laughed, setting the bag down beside the others.

"You're welcome."

She gave Liza a light shove on the shoulder before stepping inside.

The smile faded almost immediately.

The lobby smelled faintly of damp wood and old cigarette smoke. Wallpaper peeled from the corners, one of the lights overhead flickered, and a cockroach disappeared beneath a cracked baseboard the moment the door shut behind them.

"...Well."

Kimberly looked around.

"This is... charming."

Her eyes drifted toward the front desk.

She hesitated for the first time all day before offering a small, polite smile.

"...Hi."

Colt let the other two have their teasing conversation, while he grabbed his bag, a camera and boom mic. He followed, scoffing at the decrepit buildings and empty streets. To no one's surprise, he wasn't convinced of anything paranormal. It just seemed like a town that wasn't funded enough to be updated.

The hotel was just as rundown. He wrinkled his nose slightly. "I wondered why there weren't any photos of this place online." Colt commented. "Can't say I've ever stayed in a zero star hotel before."

Hearing Colt come in behind her, she shot him a quick help me look before giving the smallest nod toward the person behind the front desk.

Then she plastered on a polite smile.

"...Hi. We should have a reservation."

Kimberly let out a quiet sigh and stepped off Liza's foot.

"I know."

Her voice stayed low.

"Just... first impressions matter."

She gave Liza's shoulder a quick pat before turning back toward the front desk, offering the receptionist an apologetic smile.

"Sorry about them."

A pause.

"They're like this all the time."
