Alex and Carrie watched the boys do the banner and gave instructions from below.
Lia watched their progress from afar, until she noticed Kaiden at the side of the room.
Lia followed and handed him a packet of snack. "Here, have one." She smiled.

Kaiden gave a mild puzzled look for a moment and took the snack from her.
"Thanks," he said.

Lia wondered if Kaiden was always this hard to get along with. Or perhaps he was just like that with her.
"Well I do hope you have a great evening." Lia looked at her watch. Only an hour left until the party.

He almost hesitated to touch to her shoulder.
"And uh... sorry about how I acted in science class."
He began to walk back to Mal and Francis.

"Oh. Don't worry about it," Lia smirked, thinking he was quite cute when he's embarrassed.
"I will be irritated as well if I have a stalker like Michelle," she added.
The group worked on the decorations of the party, and was nearly done when there was few minutes left to the party.
Alex spotted someone already coming up the doorstep. "Everybody! It's Party Time!"

Kaiden gave Lia a small smile before continuing on.
He sighed as he heard Alex say that the party was just starting. If I don't see Michelle, that would be awesome

Within minutes, the hall was crowded with people.
Music was blaring and some people had started dancing at the center.
Alex cheekily pulled Mal into the dance circle. "Come on!"

Mal excitedly let Alex pull him into the dance circle and he grabbed her hands and smiled at her.
Kaiden only stood to the side and watched everyone as the night went on. He kept looking back at Lia. why do I keep looking back at her? He knew he was supposed to hate her but now he can't help but be drawn to her. The mini battle between liking her and hating her have been going on since the school year started. Now he doesn't know which feeling to go with.
Do I go and tell her how I feel or do I wait and give her a little note during class?

Alex waved for Lia to join her. Lia tugged at Kaiden's shirt, and mouthed the words, "Hey, wanna dance?"
She failed to notice that her brother, Brandon just arrived with Chelsea, his girlfriend for three years. He was a few years older than Lia and very protective of his sister. His eyes squinted dangerously at the sight of Kaiden, especially when he saw Lia beside him. Brandon intentionally bumped his shoulders. "Hey, Cherwa kid, what are you doing here?"

Kaiden looked at Lia sheepishly before he felt someone bump his shoulder.
"Hey, Cherwa kid, what are you doing here?"
Turning around, he saw that it was Brandon, Lia's older brother.
"I was invited by Alex," answered Kaiden. "What's your problem?"

Brandon snorted rudely as he stood protectively between Kaiden and Lia.
"Huh, stay away from Lia, you hear me? I know what you're up to," he answered remorsefully. Unlike Lia, he hated the Cherwas, especially Kaiden's family.

"You don't know that!" spat Kaiden. "Maybe I was trying to be friends with her and you assume that I want to be more than that with her."
"Ooh, I think there's gonna be a fight!" grinned Francis, running over to where Kaiden, Brandon, and Lia were. "Fight, fight, fight, fight!"
"Shut up, Francis!"
"What? You can take him!"
"Guys, guys!" Mal pushed Francis away and looked at Brandon. "I'm so sorry. I don't know what got into Francis. But we mean no harm, honest!"

"Friends?" Brandon snorted. Apparently he disliked the word. "Lia will never even think of be friends with you. Keep your imagination to yourself."
Alex came along with Mal, but spoke of nothing when she saw the two rivals, and stood aside timidly.
Chelsea showed up just in time, dragging her boyfriend away. "Don't ruin Alex's party,"
"You better watch your back," Brandon warned, giving Francis a sharp glare before he walked away with his girlfriend.
Lia heaved a sigh of relief. She knew she shouldn't think that of her brother, but Brandon can be a jerk sometimes.

"Don't mind him," replied Kaiden. "He's just a hater, that's all."
"A literal hater of our family," added Mal.

Lia's gaze followed her brother until she lost sight of him in the crowd.
Alex tapped on her shoulder. "I have to admit, your brother is scary." She faked a shudder.
Lia chuckled. "I suppose so." Then she turned to Kaiden. "Sorry about how Brandon acted." She was going to add "He hates you" but decided against it.

"It's all right. My two older brothers are the same way." He rubbed his neck while his ears twitched a little. "So... how about that dance?"
Mal motioned for Francis and Alex to follow him. He figured that they should let Lia and Kaiden be alone.

Kaiden's cheeks became a bright red as he walked with Lia to the dance pool. He gently squeezed her hand and pulled her closer to his side.
"You, uh, you look nice," he finally managed to say.
I can't believe I just said that.
His ears twitched some more.

Not till she realized that she was quite close to Kaiden that blushed a bit, though she hoped it wasn't that obvious.
"Thank you," she whispered, and then it was an awkward silence again. "Well, uh, you also look nice yourself," she added hesitantly. Why, didn't she just sound silly?
