Hmm. While I'm fine with Wrang's head being part of Vayex's deal, I had thought that you would all know you are being hired by a Citadel black ops group. From your post I'm not sure if Vayex is aware of that part. But if you think it works better if he goes in thinking he was just hired for a normal merc job, then so be it. Or maybe I misread something.

I hit something of a snag so it looks like the rest of you still have some time to post. I'll get back to you soon enough, though.

I'm hoping this posting rate wasn't an omen for the future of this game.

That being said, hopefully it would go easier when you can just react to situations?

I'll try to work on a post later today.

There. If by any chance any of you were still working on introduction posts, feel free to just post that and then add the response to the DIrector's question at the end. Otherwise, a short, curt response is better than none. But if your characters do have any IC questions about your terms and what is expected of them, now would be a good time to ask!

Also, by the blue salarians' skin tone I mean that they look more or less like this: http://img4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100110011330/masseffect/images/f/fe/New_Salarian_Races_Page_Image.png

Bit worried about Ekirei, as apparently he last posted anything at all two weeks ago. I'd rather not have to resort to trying to replace people this early in...

Made a big post. Sorry if I'm overloading you with exposition, but it seemed warranted in this case. :P I'm going to NPC Moss if Ekirei doesn't show up before your mission starts. He will be free to reclaim him if he returns afterwards unless, of course, Moss happens to die. In his current state he still has more plot armour than your average NPC but less than the PCs...

Alright, gents. Any responses?

Twice a week is slower than I would have hoped, but it would be better than nothing.

Also, going to start expanding the google doc.

Sorry about my absence. I don't know why, but I recently made a habit of starting on CS's and then not finishing them, but dammit I finally finished one! That and the fact that I recently replayed Mass Effect 1 and 2 sort of jumpstarted my enthusiasm for Mass Effect on the whole. Anyways, is it too late to throw my character on the table?

Go ahead and post the sheet or send it to me through private conversation. If you don't mind I'd still rather add you after the first mission, though.

I don't mind waiting. Here's the CS. Not gonna lie though, I'm nearly clueless as to how the ratings work.

Name: Serris Zaelen
Species: Turian (13)
Appearance: Serris sports blue face paint; two stripes on each mandible, perpendicular to their length, in the middle of them; a v-shape on his lower jaw; a line running along the bottom of each eye and along each side of his nose; a line running up his forehead which splits into a curving v-shape that runs along the ridges on either side of his top fin.

Class: Infiltrator (13+5=18)

Backstory: Serris was born on Palaven. His father was a captain in the Turian Navy, thus Serris didn't ever see him much. His mother always talked about how brave and smart his father was, and Serris grew to admire his father, even though he was never really there. Sometimes he would get a letter from his father and he would brag to his friends about how he was the captain of a ship. He started to muse about captaining his own ship, or leading a commando squad. Throughout his adolescence he trained himself, physically and mentally, to become a soldier.

He enlisted in the military as soon as he could and earned high praise from his superiors. He had a drive that most of his fellow trainees admired, and he displayed exceptional observational skills that earned him a letter of recommendation to a special forces unit. Once there, they trained him in a reconnaissance role, sharpening his already outstanding powers of observation. They also trained him in the use of sniper rifles in case he needed to serve a limited combat role, and he proved to be an exceptional sharpshooter. Along the way, he ended up becoming a good friend of another trainee who planned on being a shuttle pilot. He and his friend finished their training together, and were assigned to the same special forces unit.

Their very first mission was a simple intelligence operation in the Terminus systems. He was instructed to gather information on a possible base of operations for a terrorist group while his friend flew the shuttle that would get him to the mission zone and extract him once he was done. He was inserted a few kilometers from the supposed base and instructed to keep as much distance from the base as he could while getting as much useful information as possible. Shortly prior to being dropped on the planet, he got a feeling something wasn't right. He brought it up to his commander, who said it was just a thing that rookies felt and he would get used to it. He never shook the feeling, but he kept it quiet from there on.

He followed his orders and proceeded to the site, but when he got there all he saw was an abandoned mining complex with no signs of movement or recent activity. His suspicion escalated to a feeling that something was very wrong and notified his commander immediately, requesting they pull out until he can get more information. His request was denied and they sent down the shuttle to pick him up. Moments later the shuttle arrived without a hitch and Serris began to question himself. Just when the shuttle took off, however, anti-orbital cannons lit up several kilometers away and destroyed their command ship. Knowing that their shuttle wasn't safe to enter orbit, Serris told his friend to land the shuttle and stay on the ground until he got back.

Once Serris found the actual base, which turned out to be run by Cerberus, he used his long range sharpshooting and cunning to his advantage and managed to not only destroy the anti-orbital guns, but also kill every single operative that was in the base at the time. Once he knew the base would no longer be a threat, he decided to level the entire place with some demo charges, but while he was setting one of the charges he noticed on an operative's datapad was an order to send a squad to kill whomever was in the shuttle. Serris radioed his friend to warn him, but got no reply. Acting hastily, he threw what was left of the demo charges and detonated them once he was at a safe range, then began running back to the shuttle, fearing the worst of his friend. His fears were confirmed, and he found that his friend had been surrounded and executed by the kill squad. He took his anger out on the three Cerberus operatives who were left and put a hole in each of their heads. They never even saw it coming.

With little knowledge of how to fly a shuttle, Serris activated a distress beacon and prepared to hold out. He knew that pirates and the like would probably pick up the signal and come to it looking for an easy snag, so he took a supply of food and moved to a hill to watch over the shuttle. Over the next three weeks, several pirate gangs came looking, all of which he quickly dispatched, until finally a passing civilian cargo ship landed and started looking for survivors. Serris revealed himself and they took him aboard, even offering to give him a lift to Palaven. He took them up on that offer, but when he returned he was apprehended and interrogated about the mission. As he learned later, they had long since blamed the failure of the mission on him. He was tried in a military court, and although the hearing found insufficient evidence to convict him of the alleged charges of espionage and treason, he was given a dishonorable discharge from the military and was prohibited from reenlisting.

Although his military standing was taken from him, his skills were still sharp, and he began looking to redeem himself in any way possible. The first place he went was C-Sec, but when they saw his service record they rejected him, despite his impressive skill set. He began applying for private security firms, and each one rejected him for his "lack of competence" in the military. Just when it seemed as though he had nowhere else to turn, he was introduced to the Viper Project. He saw it as the second chance he needed, and he was recruited almost as soon as he was introduced to the project.

Did you read the thing I wrote about the ratings earlier in this thread? I can help but I'd need to know what exactly you have problems with.

I like the backstory on the whole. My main question is "why Cerberus?" I was under impression they largely kept a low profile at this time, though I suppose one of their operations may have ran afoul of the turians. Would he even know what that group was?

The abilities all seem to check out well enough! It's possible to diversify them a bit to replace some of the skills with equipment, contacts or personality traits, but it works this way too. I'm curious about the Biotics flaw, though - it's interesting, but do you have some explanation in mind for why he would be so susceptible? Some kind of physiological quirk? A birth defect affecting his brain, perhaps? An allergy? :P

I'll admit I had a bit of trouble finding it. I didn't really think your post relating to it was anywhere other than the first page, and I only just recently thought to check the second page. I pretty much found it about 20 minutes ago, and it pretty much makes sense now that I've actually read it. :p

Well, when he first ran into the base he noticed the symbol, but didn't know what it was. It wasn't until after he was discharged and did some research that he found out who they were. The outcome of the mission already made him feel sour about them, but the more he did his research, the more his disdain for Cerberus grew. The Turian government and Cerberus didn't really have a particular sour relation, at least none noteworthy enough to instigate active hostilities; the Turian military just had intel that there was a potential terrorist operation on the planet that Serris was deployed on, and they didn't find out until later that it was Cerberus.

I realize some of the abilities may seem kinda redundant, I just didn't want my character to seem OP. I'll switch one or two of them out for an informant, or a sniper rifle or something.

As for the biotic deficiency, I honestly just wanted to give my character an obvious flaw that could easily affect him in combat. If there were to be any explanation, I would say that the planet he was on during his deployment had small amounts of element zero contained in dust particles, and his prolonged exposure to it affected his tolerance to biotics. Now that I think about it, with how many biotics there are in Mass Effect, I may have to either buff my character's combat abilities or soften up his vulnerability to biotics to keep him from being nearly useless in combat.

Well, you have some time to figure things out if you want to change anything.

Did you have some idea of what Cerberus was up to in that place? Or would you rather leave that up to me?

You could also take something to reflect the Cerberus connection - the fact that he hates them, or perhaps that they know who he is. Something like that. Mid-Range Gap isn't a bad flaw per se but it is a bit on the bland side...
