AGE OF NATIONALISM
1815

The End of the Valliance Wars (1804-1815)

The Valliance Wars were a series of wars that took place between 1804 and ended in March, 1815. The first, though least important was the Dalemian War, which was a pseudo-civil war between monarchist and libertarian factions. The war, which ran from 1804 to 1807 and saw the monarchist faction emerging victorious, saw elements of their ideology spill into neighboring Heldemar Commonwealth. The war for Dalem was costly and bloody, with such battles as the Battle of Uzotario where the beleaguered monarchist factions fought a libertarian army of 165,000 to a standstill, even while running low on ammunition.

The Dalemian War revealed a very real fact to the Great Powers of the world. No longer would stalwart empires stand unmolested by the divine right of monarchism. With Dalem's war settled, the identity of cultural nationalism spilled into neighboring Heldemar.

Haugesend's Independence (1807-1809)

The poverty stricken province of Haugesend had long been a backwater in the Heldemar Commonwealth. General Varman Norrdan, a native Hauge and nationalist, fed on the bait of Dalemian libertarians who had fled at the outset of the Dalemian War and started the Hauges Independence Party. His coup was short lived, but his legacy festered and grew while Heldemar dallied. The Haugesend War of Independence turned into a wild guerrilla war, with the Heldemarian Grand Army struck like a lion beset by hyenas, the Heldemarian monarch negotiated a settlement to save face.

Haugesand had earned it's independence, though whether it could hold onto it remained to be seen.

The Congress of Valliance (1815)

With the upheaval of the continent apparent, a meeting of the Great Powers was necessary. The Raydir Sultanate, though not having experienced such issues, was nonetheless an important member. The Heldemar Commonwealth as well would be attending. What issues would be discussed were not yet set, and which nations would come away the victors and which would come away the losers was a mystery as well. The Commonwealth of Dalem sent it's own delegates.
