A C C U R S T
Hope has left you all.
The kingdom was lovely. It was a sprawling center of all sorts, and a major point for trade of much of the necessities of life. As busy life was, most of the marble forest's denizens lived in relative happiness and comfort. Humans and any fantastic race to think of that walked on two legs and grabbed with two arms have made their abode here, and while some difference prevailed, many of them lived in peace and unity. And while far from being a utopia by any means, it was one of the superior cities among many, if its renowned feasts haven't made that obvious.
That was surely a time to be missed. As high as a golden age soars, so does it crash down.
The king and his heir mysteriously vanished one day, only to be found as pitch-black skeletons a few days later. Before the initial news has even spread, the cityfolk have been baffled by sudden disappearance and deaths along the borders, and some who had intended to leave have mysteriously been redirected back to the city, as if some sort of mysterious barrier was blocking them. There were those entering, indeed, but it became apparent that even they were no exceptions to the mystery of the border and thus proving even more difficult to escape than to enter.
As both news spread, despair took its hold to the kingdom, and so did a deadly plague to wipe off clean a fifth of them. And even further, an enigmatic ghastly energy, more powerful than what any magician can harness, has took its grasp on some people and has spawned foul fiends and demons from within its being. A fifth are further killed.
The skies have turned red.
The city was cursed, they say. But by who? The kingless kingdom was left to the rule of the council of advisors, and they immediately went to working on searching and subduing the culprit once and for all, along with the many sects dedicated to their own faith. Not out of the question, unsurprisingly, were witch hunts. Many accused of participating in, or being the source of the curse itself were either thrown into prison tortured, or executed, depending on how "convincing and damning" the evidence was. But all efforts were to no avail.
Three years have passed. All of these, now daily routine.
Or so they thought.
The barrier had suddenly expanded. Another city is now in reach.
And the curse has spread.
Would it consume the world?
That would be up for question.
But now, things have become more desperate as that fear now lingers within their thoughts.
...Save them. Save yourself.
This roleplay is set in a high-fantasy setting, so expect a lot of magical stuff here. While an overarching plot exists, all will be allowed to go on their own paths, and most likely at some effect or even cost to the story. It's evident that the tone here is rather grim. However, it's not really dark or deep, but more of mysterious, so I'd suggest you lighten up the mood as you like.
I'll be elaborating more as I finish some important stuff to do, such as sleep and study. For now, though, feel free to put up questions regarding this. I'll be entertaining those when I'm back.
