Unfortunately it won't contain every concept that I have created as some of them are not always worth mentioning, however these are the ones that I wish to expand on.

Rules, requirements and important details. Please ensure that you read through carefully and understand what is required of this roleplay.

» The Behaviour of the Roleplayers:
Any player who wishes to join my roleplays must remain on their best behaviour at all times. You are to respect your fellow roleplayers and understand that this project will only work if we focus on having a good time. If any problems should occur they are to be raised with me immediately.
» The Common Rules of Roleplaying:
Do not metagame, powerplay, or godmod the characters. Your characters will only know what they have discovered along their journey, not what may have been discussed within the OOC. You will only control your own character and any interactions with other players must be discuss prior to the submission of your post. In some situations collaboration posts may be an option for those more important scenes however they are to be used sparingly, ie: the majority of your posts should be about your own characters. Keep in mind that your characters are still human and thus they are someone who can be injured, make mistakes, and occasionally may fail.
» Post Length and Dedication:
This is a Casual to Advance level roleplay, meaning that each post will have a requirement of several paragraphs or enough information to depict a scene. Narration, actions, dialogue and emotion are all important features that should be considered as you construct your post. By joining this roleplay you are agreeing to the terms that you will post on a regular basis and will make an effort to remain committed. Failure to abide by this rule may result in the player's complete removal from the roleplay, at which point said player and character may be replaced.
» Be Creative and Have Fun:
This is a character driven roleplay that will progress and develop thanks to the decisions that you choose. Keep in mind that the plot will act as a long term driving force for the characters and thus you can use elements of it to your advantage. I am open to ideas and thoughts, scenarios and scenes, however I will always have the last and final say in what I will accept into my world.

S T O R Y P R E M I S E
Pitch of the Night is a cooperative narrative of darkness and delirium. A tale set within the boundaries of a forsaken, desolate town known as Brier Hill.

Established in the early 19th century on the east coast of America and heavily influenced by the English Victorian era, Brier Hill began its lingering life as bustling, coal mining village; a prosperous supplier of the raven black fuel to the western world in return for valuable supplies and stockfeed. With a local tavern, a corner grocery store, and a motel for those pesky travelling tourist, the town at one stage held all the attractions that you would expect in any country estate. And yet at almost two hundred years after the initial settlement there feels as though something has fallen amiss. Like an irritating itch at the back of one's throat — scratchable, sensitive, but unable to be physically removed.

The prosperous lifestyle Brier Hill once had slowly bleached into a grey filter, exchanging the once warm summer glow for a consuming, wet, hazy fog; a world soaked by the mystic seeds of taint, inhospitable emotions, and a creeping cold who nestled themselves into the roots of the town culture. Many family trips would end early as visitors returned to their lives with teary eyes and sickly pale skin, and onlooker could only ask if the feared rumours were true...

T H E C U R S E
Every so often a child is born, a child with an elucidate fate which connects them to the world of the supernatural and paranormal. To be an occult of an affliction for which others cannot understand is but a malison that torments these individuals forevermore. The tainted are often branded with the mark of a three pointed star from the age of childhood forgetfulness, abandoned by heartbroken families to the clawing abyss of social outcast, and even hunted by those who view them as a worldly abomination. They do their best to hide within the unsympathetic shadows as they are the myths once portrayed as villains in folklore tales; but do they really deserve such a harrowing title?

Y O U R C H A R A C T E R S
This is where you play your part as your journey has drawn you into the den of Brier Hill, to seek answers you most desperately need. Perhaps you are a simpleton hunting for money, or you yourself are on the run from your past misdeeds? You bear the mark of that accursed malady and you are lead to follow a journey which is sometimes lonesome, filled with distrust, and copious amounts of scepticism. On the rare occasion you may form a bond in the with the most unlikely of kinds, if it means that you can sleep safe for one extra night.

Keep your answers true, but your secrets safe, for you do not know who may be the predator or who may be the prey. Remember why it is that you have come here, and what answers you may seek. Discover the past of your hexed heritage and the route meaning behind the three pointed branding; that is before mania festers and consumes your sanity. This town holds many secrets, if you can brave the ebony of the night.

T H E M E S O F T H E R P
Pitch of the Night has been designed with a vision for exploration in a world of horror and mystery, tapping into the elements of psychological and physical hardship in a specific way which creates a series of challenges for the characters. Many inspirations for this RP — such as the TV series Supernatural, the movie It, or the game Silent Hill — offer inspiration for the overall world design that I wish to build with my players; while the game Bloodborne has offered heavy inspiration with some of the ideas, tones, concepts, and themes that I feel are worth exploring.

For the most part the Roleplay will be shying away from any unecessary, action based conflict as I feel that the moment you empower your protagonist with excessive heroism you run the risk of undermining the foundations of what may be at stake. These are normal people caught up in a world they are struggling to survive within.

There will be a Character Sheet Template in the Char tab of the RP, available to use if you look at the Raw page of that particular post. Please use this template when writing up your CS and only fill out any sections marked with *****. I would like to keep uniformity in the posts where possible so please do not edit the layout aside from adding or removing listed points in Character Traits and Dark Hungers.

» Name/Age/Gender:
Pretty standard stuff.
» Profession:
A character's profession will not only act as their role in the story, but also an indication to their acquired skill set. A simple title on what their profession may be is more than enough.
» Physical Appearance:
List attributes that help to describe the appearance of your character. Include aspects such as size, colour complexion, hair style, clothing, facial appearance, quirks, and anything else worth noting.
» Inherited Curse:
List your character's affliction here. Check with the GM if you are curious about a particular curse's limitations or have any possible ideas.
» Character Traits:
These are the unique attributes that help to set your character apart from another. Remember to balance them so they are believable, while allowing for any future character growth.
» Dark Hungers (Personal Challenges):
These are what your character struggles against, what they may fear, and their inevitable weaknesses. Attributes that should weigh in pretty heavily into personality and characteristics so match them up with the theme of your character. For a suggestion, a hunger or challenge that goes against their core beliefs will help to add interesting depth.
» Aspirations/Personal Motivation:
This is the main motivation for your character in the story. While there is an overarching narrative that the GM will run, the core of the players time will be in resolving elements of their own personal mystery or prying into the lives of others.

A speckled beauty of youth shrouded by a caramel waterfall. The waves of silky, orange hair flows freely and eternally across Sienna's face — a sentient appendage hiding an alluring secret, a forbidden appearance which could never fully be seen. Nonetheless, with a keen eye and some clever intuition, an onlooker could carefully piece together the lass' face.

And with those rose coloured lips and turquoise eyes they contrast the neutral, achromatic colours of her street style threads. A black parka jacket and dark jeans, not really elements that could be added to any colour palette, combines with the pewter grey tank-top she hides under the fox-fur inner lining. Her hi-top shoes and thin chain jewellery are the only exception, both gold, simply to add that little bit of 90's funk to the otherwise monotone look.

» Soul Sleight: As we view the world through our rose tinted glasses, Sienna cannot help but witness a different performance — one so tortuous and horror ridden as it lays hidden behind the curtains of reality. Within this purgatory limbo are the vengeful apparitions of those who have passed on, and through an incantation Sienna can guide her own essence into this ungodly realm.
» The Invisible Touch: With a mesmerising movement that mimics the plucking the strings on an angel's harp, the witch of obscurity can play a silent tune commanding the belongings of the world to dance hypnotically against the natural laws of gravity. An item's mass still factors in as Sienna understands she can only shift the world one stone at a time.
» Always a New Face: Sienna never stays put for long, choosing to venture throughout the world on an endless journey of hotel rooms and tour busses. Whether it is a sense of discovery, or a fear of being discovered, the young woman will never disclose her true reasoning. Instead, you will often hear conflicting lies as her ability to cover her tracks has become so messy that even she cannot remember what parts were ever true.

» A World of Pain: Transporting her soul into oblivion can be a risky endeavour, often one of the last choices the lone witch will ever take. An undefended shell with a gradual breakdown of body tissue and even a slim risk of possession; you wonder why anyone would use this talent. Still, leaving the authenticity of our world is a pure, unrivalled addiction akin to the familiarities of drug abuse.
» Not a Penny to Her Name: With little in the way of material possessions and relying heavily on the scrapy notes in her pocket, Sienna borders a line of poverty which is combined net worth of unfortunate and self-inflicted decisions. Why work when you can pickpocket with magic? Not a wise choice considering her gift's potential.

Sienna is on a journey to Brier Hill in the hopes of uncovering the secret to a family friend's disappearance fifteen years prior. Struggling for clues and with little to go on, she decided that the hometown of the vanished would be the best locale to start.

Coming straight out the 90's fashion catalog is Dr. Röemheld, standing strong in his signature woolen jacket and slim turtleneck sweater; articles of clothing which are coloured in a mature shade of chestnut and navy respectively. The combination of attire, his 1950's round specs, and the slick in his hair all help to present the good doctor as someone who obtained his position through no easy feat.

It should be known however that Mathias is a man with a rough edge to his pristine demeanour. A ragged, balbo beard rests below his lifeless, grey eyes; a pair of gangly hands which appear twice the age of his weary face; and a distinct limp from a dodgy, right knee. Only the few who know him well will know the reasons to his aged guise.

Lycanthropy

C H A R A C T E R T R A I T S
» Mark of the Wolf: The curse of Lycanthropy is a unique ailment. A mark which offers an abundance of strength, healing, and heighten senses for the lone, monthly cost of a night of beasthood. While his illness is impressive it has taken a toll on his body, wearing it thin and scaring him from the core to his ragged skin.
» Man of Science: As a doctor for two decades, Dr Röemheld is quite the educated individual. He know much more about the happenings of Brier Hill than he lets on, and it would be foolish to disregard his words of guidance. At the same time, obtaining those words is a task unto itself with the Doctor viewing other cursed members as "filthy abominations" not worthy of his time.
» Note to Self: Mathias is a writer, but more importantly a note keeper. Within his coat pocket he keeps a small leather diary which holds all that he sees, and all that he wishes to document. While its presence may be known, its contents are hidden — a book for his eyes and his eyes alone.

» The Non-Believer: Mathias struggles to acknowledge his Lycanthropy affliction, even as he continues to take a specially formulated dose to prevent the monthly mutations. It goes against everything he has experienced and no one seems understand why.
» A Stolen Memory: The diary Mathias keeps is more to him than any mere notebook from an office supplies store. It is a totem, a memory record for the days where his mind fades off into the pale moonlight. To lose it would be to lose his identity, and would reduce him down to no more than a mad Dr. Jekyll, bound by the shackles of a beastly Mr Hyde.

A S P I R A T I O N S / P E R S O N A L M O T I V A T I O N S
As a doctor, Mathias is currently researching the curse and its connections to the human genome. He hopes to one day find a cure, and is even willing to pay the price if it means he can eliminate the plague entirely. The question that is yet to be answered is how much can he truly afford?
