Aurora sprinted after the rabbit as quickly as her legs would carry her. This rabbit may very well be the difference between life and death. Unfortunately for the she-wolf, Aurora had never been very good at hunting. Back when she had been in a pack, she had been a caretaker. She'd raised the pups and cared for the sick or injured. Never hunted. By instinct, she knew the basics of what she was doing, but she'd had no training. She had never gone on the big, group hunts. She almost wished she were hunting a bigger animal. At least that way it would be easier to keep track of the creature. As it was, this little white-coated rabbit was nearly impossible to see in the knee-deep snow. With each bound, the animal disappeared and reappeared. Disappeared, reappeared. And, eventually, she lost it, and off it went into the snow.

Disappointment flooded Aurora as she slid to the ground in defeat and exhaustion. She had not eaten in a week. She had survived solely off of eating snow for water, but she could not do this much longer. She would surely die soon. This infernal winter would never end. She did not even have the strength to get up and head back to her little den. The last thing she remembered before she passed out was the snow that continued to fall silently around her.

Hungry. Cold. Gut strode through the snow as best he could, the snow sticking to his thick coat chilling his scrawny legs to the bone. Every few steps he shook it away, with every few steps more attracting even more of the accursed powder to his body. Another day with out food, and soon he'd have to look for any shelter if he were to survive the night without freezing. Gut chanced a sniff to the ground, and to the air, only it what seemed the barest chance of luck he smelled an animal, one outside of their den by how clear their scent was.

The gray wolf lowered his slowly atrophying body to the snow, stalking towards the scent. By providence it was not long before he caught sight of his meal. A wolf, like he, though this one was lying in the snow. No wolf would sleep in this cold, least of all in the snow of all places! No, it must have been dead or passed out, whether from the cold or starvation he couldn't say nor did he care. Fresh meat, unfrozen meat, no fight to eat, simply food.

From his stalking Gut quickly assumed a quick sprint, born from both desperation and a salivating maw. Food, after so long, food. So close, but another few seconds and his aching, cold teeth would be dug as deep as could go inside the delicious flesh. Just a bit more.

Aurora awoke with a yelp of pain. There was a searing, aching pain in her leg, like something was... biting her? What? Her eyes snapped open, and she looked down to see a grey-coated male wolf with his teeth around her left back leg. He was staring at her. His eyes held a crazed expression in them, and he did not let go of her leg. She continued whimpering as his teeth remained clamped there, drawing blood.

"What are you doing?" she asked.

His eyes told her he was debating whether to let go or continue biting. She could feel blood trickling down her leg. Still, he did not let go. She figured he probably was not going to. Suddenly, her resolve hardened. "If you're going to eat me, at least kill me first," she growled, narrowing her eyes and baring her neck to him. "Do it quickly. Otherwise, get off my leg."
