Chapter 1

It was October 1st, the beginning of a spooky, ghoulish time. A holiday, a classic nuance from the jolly family humbling feelings that most holidays bring. It was a time for monsters, witches, “creepie-crawlies” and the alike to be celebrated. The idealistic notion that on Halloween night these creatures lurked in the shadows with us. Yet the truth was, they always were.
In a small town, roughly southern Louisianna, called Rilla they held a festival all month long. It was here a cult classic horror was filmed, Nights in Graves. The movie wasn’t fantastic, it was actually rather stupid. 80s gore movies weren’t really up to par in effects, especially considering the low budgets they usually dealt with if coming from an original script. Because of it’s not-so-serious reputation, it built fame from shame & humor. It was ironic to enjoy the movie-and that is why people enjoyed it so much. It was a movie everyone loved to hate. The festival would begin on this day and run the length of the month, up until Halloween night. People all over the country would travel to visit.
It was here a young girl, Belinda, would be working in their haunted house as a ghost doll. They ran practices all through September to work on perfecting jumps & scares for opening night. Every actor felt prepared, comfortable with the house and knew the run through like the back of their hand. This year would be the biggest year yet.

Belinda was taking a small snack break in her little cube of a section as they held off the line a few minutes, giving each actor a chance to rejuvinate their spunk. Her bloodied braids swung as she bobbed her head, munching on some goldfish. She heard a small snarl behind her, piercing through the music that played repeatedly. Belinda payed it no mind. She kept snacking, thinking it might be another actor or just something on the tape.
“Turn around,” she heard a voice say. But when she turned there was no one to be seen. “Hello?” She called out. She opened up a black tent flap, to the outside of the haunted house. “Hello?” She repeated. She stepped out, peering into the dark woods that were behind her. Just then she heard screams from scared walkers and quickly panicked back into place, ready for them to pass through.
“I SAID turn around!” A womans voice yelled behind her again. A crack would fall through the air but land on deaf ears as the music continued over it. Belinda was in someone’s hands, arm twisted and tilted. Just as the walkers began to reach Belinda’s section she felt sharp pains in her neck, so excruciating she began to screech at the top of her lungs. Blood seeped down her doll dress, adding to the effects of the fake blood. The lights continued to flash, music kept playing. In came the group. She locked eyes with one of them, a man. The monster was tearing into her neck, destroying it, flesh torn aggresively. Belinda cried and screamed “help me!” She pleaded them. “Please!”
The family believed it to be a part of the show, like everything else.
Belinda quickly passed out from the trauma, and the monster continued to have their way with her, with no one paying any mind even after seeing it first hand. Her body was left to drop on the floor once they were finished, her wig and dress taken, leaving her naked and dead in the haunted house.
A coworker of hers stepped into the room, being only a tent or so over. “Were you adlibing?” He was yelling over the music, “that wasn’t your usual act..” he lifted the tent cover to find her on the floor. “Holy shit.” He would run to the front through the walkway, stopping any new walkers and turning them around. “Belinda is hurt!” He kept screaming, barely audible. When he finally reached the front of the house, it was quickly shut down. Police were sent in. Belinda was pronounced dead on scene.

Despite her murder investigation, everything besides the haunted house remained open. All the food trucks and pop up shops stay, the corn maze, the haunted hay ride, even the haunted school walk through stayed open. A murder on sight would only really add to the scare factor of the festival.
As for Belinda, her coroner case seemed stumped. They could only chalk her murder up to some sort of animal that may have gotten through the back of the tent. How else could you explain the mutilation on her neck, shoulders, and thighs? People spread rumors of a real life zombie that had come, quoting the movie the festival was themed after. But no one actually believed that because zombies were of fiction.

Newspapers across the country reported on this, as well as a few online articles. It became a phenomenon. Everyone had their eyes on the Nights in Graves festival. But only a few would look to it with certain suspicion. What had really killed her? Only a certain few could find out.

The Demon Hunter Zek

Louisiana...the roar of a black pickup truck drives down the road, behind the wheel of the truck is a bald headed individual wearing a rather expensive looking black and white suit with a red tie. 'A case, this one Halloween out of all the months to be searching for something that goes bump in the night it had to be this one.', these were the thoughts of the man in the car. Man might be the wrong word for this person as he was once human, he wasnt went by the name Gregory Wells. Time changes everything and a life time of damnation turned him into what he is today. His name is Zek and he is a demon and he hunts monsters.

A series of newspapers were in the seat next to him of the area. Lost in thought still he was trying to figure out the situation the best he can from the what little information he had. 'A movie set, a horror movie. A big set for nearly anything to hide it. Can almost rule out a ghost, if the girl was found the way the newspapers whatever or whoever did this had something to do. That's if the police here gave all the details to the press. If it is a ghost though, I might be able to see it..." These thoughts trailed off as he makes a sudden turn down the road he needed to go down.

He sees the building in the distance, he reaches over and pops open his glove compartment grabs a wallet and his revolver. He puts the gun in his inner coat pockets along with his wallet with the ID he needed should he need to ID himself on this mission. Making sure to have one angel blade bullet, and a bunch of devil trap bullets. They might not be silver or iron but they can stop a demon.

Zek brings his truck to a screeching halt before getting out of the truck and slamming the door shut as he got there. He decided to go to the small shack where the scene took place. He looks around assess the situation to see what is all around and or who is all is around. Meanwhile trying to keep a business look on his face as he is suppose to be there.

It had been a couple of years since Sully had received a phone call from a mystic called Madame Kiki. She operated a fortune telling service deep in Lousiana, far from where Sully was based but it was somewhere he visited while hunting a pack of werewolves. While he was there she helped him out and in the process she proved that her powers of foresight were far from a magicians trick.

"Hello Kiki, it's been a while. How can I help?" Connor's thick Welsh accent was foreign to the ears of most people he came across in the US, but it's tone was soothing to those that heard it.

"Well Connor you know I wouldn't bother you unless I saw something important." Kiki's voice was as caring and loving as that of a grandmother, unfortunately for her the body she was given didn't allow her to become one. "Recently a girl got killed working at a fun house. The police reported it as some sort of wild animal attack but it's definitely something up your street. If you are not busy could you come take a look?"

Sully didn't have any current cases to work on so his answer was immediate, "Yeah of course." He looked down at his watch quickly, a timepiece a slight bit too fancy for the typical hunter although he was anything but typical. "I should be able to get to your place by about..."

Kiki interjected before he could say anything. "You're not coming to my place, you need to go to a town called Rilla. The girl worked at a haunted house, it's there she...you know..." Kiki trailed off, letting out a deep sigh.

"It shouldn't be too much further from you anyway, i'll get there by about 3pm tomorrow if I leave now." He picked up what he called his "ready to go bag" and made for the door of his apartment, not wasting any time.

"You just be careful Connor...come see me when you're done." Kiki loved company, it gave her a chance to show off her amazing culinary skills. "Anyway I will let you go Connor, I can hear you half way out of the door already...as usual. I'll see you when it's all done."

"I'm just not a fan of time wasting." Sully let out a laugh before bidding Kiki farewell. "Take care." Ending the call Connor locked his door behind him and started on the long journey to Rilla.

Sully emerged from the hotel onto the highstreet that ran through Rilla after getting a quick power nap. He scanned the street taking in the number of people that vastly outweighed the size of the town. The girls death had not put anyone off from visiting, the town clearly made a living from the entire month of October. Even so Sully was there for a reason, the girl Megan. After some minor digging it didn't take long to find her parents house location, that was as good a place to start as any.

The roaring engine of his Mustang ceased as he turned off the ignition and stepped out of the car. He was wearing an all black suit that gave the distinct impression of someone who was more than just a simple detective. He reached inside his jacket pocket and pulled out an ID that read Mark Evans, FBI. He always liked to double check the details of his identification, he didn't want to risk giving his cover away. Luckily for him the only real way his cover could be blown was through his own mistakes. His good friend Curtis hacked his way into the databases of all organisations that Connor had identification for and created actual records and back stories should any local forces ever try and check him out. Mark Evans moved to the US at the age of 16 before joining local law enforcement, eventually moving onto the FBI...thats what Curtis put in his record at least.

With ID in hand Sully made his way to the door and knocked with a firm fist. He intended to ask the usual generic hunter questions and also if possible, to search Megan's room for anything that could help him work out what he was dealing with. It took a moment but the door soon opened, "I am so sorry to bother you, my name is Detective Mark Evans, would it possible for me to come in?"
