[IC] Pokemon: Shadows of Things Past

Chad stepped out of his house, a huge grin on his face. It was time for him to get his starter Pokemon and a Pokedex. Of course, he had a Pokemon of his own already, but he wasn't going to pass up the opportunity to get a free Pokemon. As he walked, he turned his eyes to the air. Supposedly another new trainer was on his way here from Saffron to get his own Pokedex, and he was expected to arrive here at any time. He couldn't help but think that Professor Oak planned this on purpose, but what did he know.

He approached the front of the lab and read the sign, "Professor Oak's Lab." With his grin firmly in place, he reached for the door...

"Lil, Lil, Lil Pettiiiiiilil!" shouted a happy and cheerful grass type Pokemon. Who was dancing and bouncing left and right. On a boy's legs, making him chuckle and laugh at how excited she was getting. "Lil, peti?" it chanted out while twirling around and eye smiling up towards the boy. Making him to chuckle and stroke her head gently left and right.

"Yeah Petilil we are almost there too Pallet town. Where we will meet up with Professor Oak and receive our very own Pokedex!" He said with a grin. Then laughed when Petilil charged right into his chest and began snuggling and rubbing up against the boy. Purring and mewing against him, as he heard his mother laughing out.

"Well first Robert, when we get there. I mean when we get too the entrance of pallet town. You will be going too the lab by yourself." The mother explained, shifting her green eyes up towards teh rear view mirror. Seeing the blue short hair boy, nod his head and moving Petili next too him. Fixing and organizing his orange long sleeve shirt back into place.

While the mother smiled brightly as well, facing forward. Feeling her pony tail blue hair, gently press against her neck. As she sighs out and gave a caring smile. "I never thought I will see the day, of you finally starting your Pokemon journey. Now, you have everyone with you right?" She asked, directing towards Robert's other pokeball's, that were attached to his belt around his blue long sleek pants, with silver lines going down the right leg. In which has two more pokeballs on him, that contain a Pikachu who he ran into, when the electric mouse Pokemon. Had some how got into the electrical wiring of their apartment building, nibbling and eating the wires. In order to get electricity into it's system. while the last pokemon is Dratini, who he won at Celedon Game corner...a lucky win indeed as he manage to get A jackopot and enough points in order to get the small and cute dragon type Pokemon. Who just loves to coil aruond his arms and playfully trick people. Who walks by him, thinking it was an accessory. Only for them to get jumped and get frighten when the dragon pokemon, will blink it's large pearl eyes and then start smiling and laughing at them.

As if on cue, a flash of light from Robert's pokeball, and out came Dratini. The little dragon quickly wrapped itself around Robert's arm, nudging Petilil out of the way as it did so. "Dratini! Tini!" it cried, excited to finally go somewhere with it's trainer.

Meanwhile...

Chad entered the lab, making sure his camo vest was on right. Unferneath that he had short sleeve black shirt on, with a pair of black pants to match. He had messy black hair, and brown eyes tgat scanned everything they could. He hadn't been in Professor Oak's lab before, so he was both fascinated and confused by all the machines he saw lying around, including what looked like two pods connected by a huge power cable. The man himself stood by a table which housed 3 pokeballs and watched Chad approach with interest.

"Welcome, welcome!" Professor Oak said, walking forward to shake the 17 year olds hand. "My name is Professor Oak, and this is my lab!" He gestured around at the rest of the building, clearly enjoying himself. He always loved giving new trainers their Pokemon and Pokedex, though if course not everyone got them. That was what made this meeting slecial, it had been years since he had given a Pokedex to a hopeful young trainer, and niw there were two! "I see your felliw trainer has yet to arrive, si let's introduce ourselves shall we? I am Professor Samuel Oak, but some people calle me the-"

"Pokemon Professor." Chad cut off, "I'm Chad, and I live here in Pallet Town. My dad said you were gonna give me a Pokedex and a Pokemon?" He'd heard the Professor's speech from his father a dozen time's over. He was hust lookung forward ti getting o the road.

Professor Oaj raised his eyebrow at the young trainer, but said nithing about the interruption. "Um, well, yes. But I'm afraid well have to wait for that until your fellow trainer arrives. It's a rule to allow both trainers to pick together. So until he arrives, how about you show me that Pokemon you have there?"

Chad grumbled something about late people, before grabbing the ball from his hip, pressing a button to enlarge it. "If you insist Professor. Here he is, go! Sharptooth!"

"Hey Dratini be nice, you all have to work together when we set out on our journey." Robert explained, laughing a bit. When Petilil growled out and began ruffling her leaves left and right, at how dratini nudge the little grass type out of the way. so it can wrap around the boy's arm. After that and stopping itself from growling. The three of them will feel the car stopping at the very entrance of Pallet town. With the sign on the right side of the sidewalk, reading the town name and such to any visitors.

With buildings here and there from what they can see, as well as what appears to be people working and just having fun wandering around their town. Chatting and talking to one another, along with Children and some little pokemon laughing and running about with playful laughter. "Alright here we are Robert...Pallet town, now I want you to be on your best behavior when you meet Oak okay?" Robert's mother said. In which the boy opened up the car door and got out of it.

Making sure Petilil will follow right behind him, as she happily hops down onto the ground. All the while taking a few stride forward so the boy, can close the door behind her. As he smiled at his mom and adjusted his pokemon league hat. "Of course mom! I won't give Oak trouble! See you when I get back to saffron!" He called out and began running through the city of Pallet town, all the while holding onto Petilil who immediately jumped into his arm when he began running.

It would take Robert about five to ten minutes, before he finally found the lab and home of Samuel Oak. With the boy breathing and panting lightly, as well as gulping down his nervousness. "Well...here we are guys. We are about to start our very own Pokemon journey!" he whispered and then raised his voice at the end in excitement. Feeling his entire body filling up with butterflies. "ALRIGHT! Let's go!" he shouted with a confident grin and fist pump lightly, as he opens up the door and calls out with both eyes closed. "I AM HERE PROFESSOR OAK! Sorry for being late, a long drive from Saffron."

Chad rolled his eye's as Robert burst through the door. "It's about tume you showed up!" He snapped, putting his pokeball back on his belt.

"Calm down Chad, it's fine." Professor Oak said calmly. "Welcome trainer! I've heard good things from your mother, how has she been?" He added, a fond look in his eye. He still remembered giving Pokemon to these kids parents, and just loikung at the duo brought memories flooding back.

"And just who are you anyway?" Chad asked as he crossed his arms.

Robert sheepishly rubbed the back of his head, laughing a bit. "She is doing fine, she's doing fine. As well as her pokemon too." He said while taking few steps forward. Hearing this new trainer snapping at him for being late. Which Robert just shrugged his shoulders, with Petilil hopping her way over in timing with the boy. Smiling up towards the professor.

"As for my name, its Robert arma." He stated towards the boy without really looking at him. Not rudely but in hopes, of keeping the playful Dratini from jumping at the boy and scaring him. He then faces at Oak with a bright smile, "So how are things going Professor? I heard from you recent news interview, that you might've discovered?" He asked while resting a hand onto his side, with Petilil just blinking her orange eyes looking around at the many book shelves, computers and furniture in the place.

"Oh, I'm glad you asked!" Professor Oak said excitedly. "We just discovered a new fossil, and I was asked to take a look before any attemots at ressurection were taken. I remember when they tried to do so without udentification last time and it turned out to be a Kabutops. That wasn't pretty, let me tell you."

"Sorry to interrupt Professor, but wasn't there something for us here?" Chad asked, knowing that these sciency type's could get wrapoed up in a story easily.

"Oh, right, sorry." The Professor chuckled, embarassed. "Cone over here, please." He asked, walking over towards a table on the far side of the room. Chad stopped for a minute and took a look at the trainer, noticing the Petilil bouncing around. "Where'd you get that Pokemon? They're not native tovKanto."

Robert let out a quiet sigh...he really did wanted to hear what kind of fossil they discovered? Along with chuckling at the mention of, those who resurrected one of the fossils. Containing Kabutops didn't end well...Although Robert look at the corner of his head, whispering 'wait Kabutops? Aren't they regularly Kabuto?' he said to himself all the while hearing Chad, getting a bit impatient of wanting to get something from the professor. Making Robert to roll his eyes a bit, and followed the two down the lab...only to then get asked about his Petilil.

"Oh her?" He said with a smile, and then chuckled when she happily jumped up onto his arms. Snuggling up against his chest fondly, "Yeah that is true Petilil, are not native too Kanto. She is actually from Unova, as well a Pokemon who I ran into during one of my walks as a kid. Through Pinwheel forest...although I think she followed me." The boy chuckled out, not entirely sure how he met Petilil with the grass type. Happily nodding her head with chants of her name. She then blinked her eyes at Dratini, who is coiled on the boy's arm.

"So Chad getting your first Starter Pokemon?"

Chad raised his eyebrows in surprise at Roberts mention of Unova. He was from that far away? He could barely even hear an accent. "Yeah, I'm getting a starter." He said in answer to Robert's question. "Although I already have a Pokemon." He added, grabbing his pokeball off his hip. He smiled as he thought of the powerful Pokemon inside. "I've had him for a while now, though I still can't decide on a name."

Professor Oak watched the two silently, wondering how it would turn out. Would they get along and become friends? Or would they become rivals, like so many others? It was true that he had asked both here on the same day for a reason. He was hoping fir a friendly rivalry to start up between the two, just like their parents before them. Having a rival to fightvand griw along side was a wonderful thing, and he couldn't help but think of Agatha and himself. "Ah, what memories." He said quietly enough that neither would hear him.

Robert blinked his eyes a bit at the mention of already having a Pokemon. Making Robert to think in his head, of why go and get a starter Pokemon? If...you already have a Pokemon in your team? He figure not to question the logic behind his decision, he himself isn't going to get a starter Pokemon. On the account he already has three of his own, one of them wrapped nicely and comfy on his arm.

"Well no offense to Oak, although I think he already knows that I ain't choosing a starter." Robert said with a chuckle, figuring Oak already knew why he is here in which. Was to have a Pokedex as well being able to get the license of being a Trainer. "If you don't mind Oak, after everything I do want to show you the Pokemon I have." He explained, wanting to get the old professor evaluation of his team.

"Of course!" Professor Oak said. "I was hoping to see your Pokemon anyway, especially that Dratini on your arm." At that comment, Chad looked at what he had assumed to be a wrist band of some sort. He had a Dratini? He made a mental note to find out where he got it later.

At the mention if it's name, Dratini partially uncurled itself from Robert's arm and looked up at Professor Oak. "Dra?" It said questioningly.

"Heh heh, don't worry little one, we'll get to you soon enough. But first, I have a starter Pojemin for the two of you!" He said, sweeping his arm towards the table, which held three pokeballs and two Pokedex's. "It is time for you two to choose the Pokemin you will spend the rest of your journey with, the one who will be with you through thick and thin, easy and rough-"

"We know the deal Professor, but if you haven't noticed we're a vut ilder than your usual crowd. We don't need the whole grand speech."

"Oh, right. Heh heh, silly me." Professor Oak said sheepishly. Chad was quite the impatient one it seemed. Oh well, everyone had their quirks. "But now, choose your Pokemon, and your Pokedex!"

Robert leer lightly towards Chad, about how they don't need the usual speech when getting a starter Pokemon. Making Robert to sigh out and shake of his head, while shrugging his shoulders. Yeah they are older, yeah they are a bit...or somewhat maturer than most trainers who visit him. But there is really no reason to interrupt the one job, the man has in his belt. When introducing or giving off the speech too new trainers.

Robert chuckled lightly when Dratini uncurled herself from his arm, surprised probably of oak. Figuring out that she wasn't a wristband but an actual Pokemon. "Professor oak i you don't mind? But I don't think I will be needing a starter Pokemon...if you catch my drift." Robert said lightly raising Petilil up in his arms, along with Dratini. In which the grass pokemon happily wiggled her green like skirt around. "That and I have came here with three Pokemon at the ready, so hope you don't mind." He said with a sheepish smile.

Professor Oak looked at the Pokemon in Robert's arms and nodded. "I understand. As long as you have Pokemon by your side, you'll be fine. Now then, Chad, do you still want a Pokemon?"

Chad nodded, stepping towards the table. He picked up his Pokedex, deciding to register the thing later. He looked at the three pokeballs: Bulbasaur, Squirtle, and Charmander. Niw which one was the right one...

While he was making his choice, Professor Oak picked up the second Pokedex and carried it over to Robert. It was a bew, sleek model, eith a variety of functions beyond your basic Pokedex. These were nearly impossible to get wuthout knowing somebody, and they were valuable research tools. Could ge trust these two with such a large task?

The old man handed Robert the Pokedex, his face becoming serioys for a moment. "Can I trust you to take care of this? To do your best with whatever you choose, be it battling catching, or something inbetween?"

Robert seeing the serious look on Oaks face, the boy understood exactly how important a Pokedex is. His mother told him everything there is about what features it...well used to have, along with the encyclopedia of every single Pokemon that is known to mankind, is all stored into this little library handheld. giving it too the wrong hands as well with the Trainers ID and information of what he/she has done during their quest. Can be very disastrous too anyone they know or have met along with the Pokemon that they have probably caught during their travels.

"You can trust me Professor oak. I definitely know how important this device is." Robert explained while taking the Pokedex, as Petulil looked between him and Oak. With her orange eyes blinking a couple of times, only to then start gently hopping up and down in Roberts arms. Out of excitement as well as saying in her own little words, that Oak can trust in Robert of the deeds and journey he is about to take! "You can count me, and I will do my best...if not to fill up the pokedex." He said with a little chuckle...knowing how impossible that will be. Considering there are over about 694 Pokemon known so far in the world...with new species being discovered now..."I think I will focus on completing the Kanto region Pokedex first." He mumbled to himself in thought with eyes closed.

Professor Oak nodded. "Of course, do it hiwever you see fit. Now, let's see if Chad has chosen yet."

He turned away from Robert and headed back towards the table that Chad stood by. Noticing the Professor coming over, Chad grabbed his choice from the three and turned to face Robert and Professor Oak. "Got it!" He said, lifting the Pokeball and showing it to the duo.

"I see, good choice Chad. Now that thats out if the way, why don't we meet all our Pokemon, hmm?"

Robert nodded at Oak with a grin and watches him walking over toward Chad, to see which Pokemon he has chosen for his starter. In which Robert, who was watching chad, notice him choosing one of the Pokeball. Making Robert curious of which one he chosen? Before he can muse any further with it, Professor Oak went ahead and asked them, to see all of their pokemon.

Which Petilil instantly hopped down onto the floor and happily waddle her way forward away from Robert for a bit. As petilil did that, and giving Robert left arm some freedom. Moved that arm down to his belt and grabbed his third Pokeball. "Alright then I don't mind, so come on out Pikachu!" Robert said tossing the ball forward in which landed onto the ground, and sent out the electric mouse Pokemon. Whose body appeared in the white glow and vanishes, with Pikachu shaking his head a bit and smiling up towards Oak with a bright smile and a peace symbol with his fingers.

"Pikaaaaachu!"

Dratini quickly uncurled itself from Robert's right arm and jumped next to Pikachu, landing with a loud thump, and a happy cry. "Dratini!"

Chad grabbed his other Pokeball from his belt, grinning wide, excited to show off his Pokemon. "Alrught the., come on out! Squirtle and Tyrunt!" In a flash of light, a small blue turtle appeared, along with a brown dinosaur Pokemon who was taller than all the other Pokemon present. The two Pokemon looked at their surroundings, with Tyrunt setting it's gaze on Dratini, and Squirtle looking from Professor Oak to Chad. "Squirltle, squirt?" It said confused.

Robert blinked his eyes at the new Pokemon that chad sent out, calling it Tyrunt? Never has he seen a Pokemon like that before in his life, as well curious of where Chad manage to even get something like that? "Tyrunt...what kind of region is it from...never seen something like that before?" Robert asked pointing at the t-rex looking Pokemon with blinking eyes.

While Petilil happily just shake herself in place, while doing some back flips. While Pikachu happily smile at Squirtle, "Pikachu, Pika, Pika, Pikaaachu." Pikachu chanted out, while moving it's paws and arms around. Explaining to the starter Pokemon that this boy behind it. Is it's new Beginner trainer, as well Squirtle being Chads starter pokemon...although kind of weird how he already has a Pokemon? "Pikachu." the electric mouse said with a bashful chuckle, rubbing the back of his head.

"Tyrunt's a fossil Pokemon." Professor Oak explained. "They come from Jaw Fossils, found only in the Kalos Region. They were once the top Predator of prehistoric Kalos!"

"I got him as a souvenir on a trip there. I had thought it was just a cool looking rock at first. Imagine my surprise when it turned out to be a rare fossil!" Chad said, remembering what happened a few years back. "He's a bit of a handful, but he's worth it."

"Squirtle? Squirt?" The turtle Pokemon answered back to Pikachu, asking if Pikachu was Chad's Pokemon as well, or if he belonged to the other human. Tyrunt and Dratini however, were expecting each other closely, with Tyrunt smelling the smaller dragon. Dratini gave a low growl before lunging forward in a headbutt, bouncing off the rock type Pokemon with a yelp of pain. Tyrunt stumbled back a bit, surprised at the sudden attack, before growling at Dratini and bearing it's large intimidating fangs.

Robert hummed when Oak explained that Tyrunts are fossil Pokemon and hailed in from the Kalos region, being that of the jaw fossils. Robert then look towards Chad when he went and told them, that it was a souvenir he gotten from his trip here. Only to make Robert smile when the boy, explained how shocked and surprised he was, when he figured out it was a Pokemon and not just some rock.

"I bet with a T-rex looking creature like him, would definitely be a handful." Robert said. Looking towards his Pikachu and Squirtle, who were discussing something he wasn't sure of? But from the motions and waving of arms? He can tell that the two Pokemon or...Squirtle at least, is wondering if Pikachu belonged too Chad. Or too the human in front of him, in which the electric mouse eye smiled and wagged his tail gently. Explaining that he belongs to the boy behind him, whose name is Robert. While also introducing Petilil who had falling asleep in place. From waiting to long making Pikachu to bashfully sweat drop and then looking over towards Dratini and the fossil Pokemon. He then flinched backwards when Dratini growled out and headbutted the rock type Pokemon.

"Hey Dratini what's that all about! You know better too attack." Robert said as he moved forward and lifted the small dragon type Pokemon. "Now apologise" Robert exclaimed while pointing a finger against its snout.
