Hello, Everyone,

New guy here. Long time roleplayer, long time GM, and long time no roleplaying after losing the tabletop group to Life.

I always liked smaller groups, and recently I discovered this thing called 1-on-1 play. I'm interested in both.

Currently I'm very interested in a game called Heroes of Adventure, which is a free rules-light OSR game with lots of free setting stuff coming with it. I like that setting, so I can offer to GM, either for one player or up to three. By its very nature, the setting is ripe for exploration and intrigue, with many dark things stirring in it.

My base idea would be the PCs as new recruits in the Eastwatch Rangers, a group that wants to protect the common folk from dangerous things. However, this isn't set in stone, so if a player (or group) is interested in something else, let's talk about it.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

P.S.
The setting books have no player section, so from page 1 they are chock full of spoilers. Don't read them if you don't want to spoil your mystery.

So long as you don't mind having players who have never played Heroes of Adventure before, consider me interested.

No, that's no problem at all. Character creation is quick and easy compared to many mainstream games, and the mechanical side of gameplay is straightforward as well.

Did you have a look at the PHB?

EDIT:
And the Dusky Dragon Inn supplement has 240 pre-made characters (although a lot of them are higher than level 1), so you can check that. Either as examples, or to pick one that you really like.

I am looking at it as we speak. So many interesting combinations to choose from.

Thanks for mentioning that. I'll be sure to take a look.

Are you looking for a 1-on-1 game, a small group, or either?

I'd prefer 1x1. But if small group makes things easier, I can do that too.

That's my preference as well. Ok, when you have a character idea, drop it here for me.

If it's exploration, intrigue, and dark things stirring you want; and the base idea isn't set in stone, might I interest you in a game about a traveling merchant? You got exploration in the form of venturing out to find new goods to trade and partners to trade with, intrigue in the form of conspiring against rival merchants or those pesky trade regulations to secure the best deals and the greatest amount of profit, and I'm sure something could be figured out on how to benefit from any dark things that happen to be found stirring along the way.

Where would the character be on the 100% selfish - 100% altruistic axis? So, basically how egoistic would they be? There's a level where I lose my interest. I don't know, I'm a sucker for heroics.

So, Han Solo or Jabba the Hutt?

Would 50-50 be an acceptable level or would you rather I skew a bit more towards altruism?

That's ok.

Would you like some help with character creation?

---------------------------------------------------------------

The Setting (the Wildlands on the PHB map)

The center of civilized life in the game is Skenrith Keep, which is literally a keep. The road from the south-west ends in the keep, from there to east and north there are only paths, if at all. There are only few villages: Woodhaven is south-east of Skenrith Keep, Alwick is north from it, Gravestone (mining 'town') is a little more north from Alwick.

The known factions: (all based in the keep)
- Skenrith Keep, led by Lord Commander Cullyn, focused on protecting the keep
- Eastwatch Rangers, led by 'Blackhand', focused on protecting the common folk
- Adventurers' Guild, led by Fain Blackthorne, focused on gathering gold and reputation

The whispered factions:
- rebels hiding in the east, plotting to occupy the keep
- shady witch hunter(s), hunting magic users and artifacts
- Elven tribe far to the east, protecting the forest
- a hidden heir of Sentra gathering support
- beastmen (orcs?) gathering in the north
- dark creatures led by ghostly horsemen

Cool guy.

How long has he been in Skenrith Keep?
If he just arrived recently, he doesn't know much about the residents, but if he spent at least a few years here, he knows most of the significant people.

Could you reply in our OOC thread?

He's been there for the better part of seven years, a little over a third of his life so far. Since both of his parents travel a lot as well, Allan grew up moving from place to place on a regular basis. With both of his parents' homes being a common destination. Sometimes he'd be living in his mother's tribe, other times he'd be living with his father's family, occasionally he'd go off with one or both of his parents to other places as well.

Ninja'd. I'll move it there.
