[IC] High Grades

Brady, the University of New York's newest point guard for their basketball team was fresh to the idea of freedom since he has barely been out of high-school, and his parents tight grasp around him. Life had been hitting him with all it's freedoms, and he had indulged in it the entire time, letting his grades and school itself fall into the back-seat, living off the high believing that he'd grow into a professional basketball player, and compete with everyone in the NBA, including DeRozan, and several others he was aspiring to try and be like. He soon found out though that life has an interesting way of catching up to you.

He woke up late on the Thursday, a voice-mail on his phone from his guidance counselor at school. He made a groggled, and tired sounds, incoherent with what was probably a 'What now?'but all that left him was his morning tiredness. After listening to the voice-mail, he had to stop himself from throwing his phone across the room in anguish, and instead dropped it to his bed. He used almost every word in the bad dictionary he could before finally getting up. He had to find a tutor by the end of the day, and turn his grades around by the end of the semester; or else.

Or else to him was always a middle-ground, sometimes you could get away with it, or you'd actually get burned. The air of confidence he'd had around him was still there, but a little bit deflated now, especially that the school was seriously considering axing him, and while he showered, he repeatedly thought of tutors he'd heard around of at school, there as only a few he could think of, and most of them were people he didn't mix well with, un-fun people who when they tried to teach him, would probably have a easier time hurting him physically then teaching him some philosophy.

Hopping out of the shower, dressing and throwing on his clothes for the day, Brady was quickly leaving his dormitory, and heading back onto the school's campus to begin hunting for that one tutor his friend's had told him about, the one he hadn't tried, and even a few people recommended he try them out, perhaps they'd actually help him.

Mia had a busy day ahead of her. She heard her alarm clock ring and she sighed as she got up and tapped it off. She made her way into the bathroom and took her morning shower before doing the rest of her morning routine. Once she was dressed and her make up was on the looked at herself in the mirror to see her result. She was in her favourite pair of 3 inch platform New Rocks, her ripped up fishnets and a layered netted skirt with ribbons dangling down. She was wearing a simple 'Disturbed' tour t-shirt and her make up was dark and done to perfection.

As you can tell she isn't the 'usual' nerd, she wasn't big on socialising and she had never tried to 'fit in', even in school she was always the 'weird one'. Even though she doesn't like people too much, she often finds herself in situations where there are many of them around her. She finished up curling her hair into loose ringlets and smiled to herself before grabbing her backpack and grabbing her keys and making her way out of the door.

She made her way into the campus building and went to the reception area where she found the group of people waiting for her. She was asked to give them a tour around the campus as they are possible students for next year. She put on a smile and wandered over to the group. She took a clipboard out of her backpack and ticked everyone off the list that were present. "Okay guys, as you can see this is the reception, this is for any general enquiries you may have about the campus or need and phone numbers-" She was cut off with a guy at the back of the group cutting in "Can I get your number from here?" He said, followed by some high fives and chuckles from his friends. She just smiled, "Sorry kid. You're too young for me, I'd destroy you" She said and gave him a wink, this was followed by some of the girls giggling and the boys friends 'ooooooh'ing. "Now, shall we get started? We have a lot to get through before lunch" She said smiling before getting the group to follow her "Oh and if you have any questions.. Unrelated to my personal life.. feel free to ask away." She added and smiled as they made their way around the first floor of the main campus.

As Brady walked into the main office of the school. his counselor was there waiting for him. He rolled his eyes to himself as she, and him walked into an office to talk to each other for about fifteen minutes. Brady tried to tell her that he'd be fine without a tutor, and even if he needed one, he'd look for one himself. She insisted that he needed one though, adamant as well that he'd only pick a tutor that'd afford him laziness. She told him about this student she had out giving new students for next year a tour of the campus, "She's gonna be your tutor," She said, "You are also being volunteered to help her show off the campus," She added to him.

"Wait.. What? Why?!" Brady protested, wanting to be able to mess around with his buddies before class, instead of showing around some kids the campus. "She's got a few prospects for your team walking around with her too, maybe you could impress them enough to get them to come here as well," She said to him. "Ughh, fine," Brady said, letting the counselor win, just so he could get out of the stuffed up office. As he picked up the bag, she told him they were just starting in the reception area, and would be moving through towards the gym they had on the main campus. He nodded, and went searching for the group

It took him a few moments, but he finally found 'em ,"Hey, hold up!" He called out to the group, mainly to the punkish looking girl who was leading them.

She turned around slowly to see who was calling. "You must be Brady... You're late. I'm Mia. Everyone this is Brady, any questions about the sports here, you're best directing them to him." She said smiling to the group. She gave Brady a once over and shook her head, he was the guy she had to tutor? This was not going to be fun for her. He seemed like a lazy ass hole. She sighed before continuing walking the class around.

They soon got to the gym where Brady would be able to actually do something. "Okay guys, this is just one of the gyms here on campus but it is the biggest and main one. Not many people practice here only the sportsmen and women who are representing the University -The ones who compete against other uni's- are allowed here. Other teams and sports people use the smaller gyms. So maybe if you're lucky enough to represent the University next year, you'll have permission to train here." she said smiling, she acted as though this was something she was really interested in for the sake of the kids, but in reality she hated sport. She found it way too boring for her tastes.

"Sorry I'm late," He said, quickly apologizing to her, he ran a hand through his dark and short hair, smiling awkwardly, "I had to break up a fight between two frats," He said, looking from her to the kids after he pushed up to the front with her, he could easily pick out the kids who he was supposed to try and peak interest in, the ones who looks completely bored. He heard the sigh leave Mia, and raised an eye-brow, wondering what she was sighing over, "Nice to meet ya, Mia," He said as he caught up with her to lead them towards the main gym they had.

A few of the kids who're previously bored seemed to be interested in the gym they had, and Brady walked backwards, leading them into the gym as Mia hadn't done yet, "Mia's right, only our teams are allowed in here, it's a pretty cool gym," He said to them, "Our entire gym's based off the size of the basketball court, key's and everything's accurate to even the NBA standards, and that's pretty hard and expensive to do," He added, looking around he saw one of the basketball's the team's left lying around, "Which one of you are gonna be coming here to play with us next year?" He asked, a few students raised their hands, "Come play a quick pick-up then," He said, "Some street ball," He grinned.

Mia's eyes rolled when Brady mentioned about the frat fight. She despised frat houses and anyone who were in them, always arse hole Jocks being in a big group of more arse hole Jocks. She preferred quiet company to loud mongrels challenging each other to drinking games and talking about sport. She looked at the time on her watch looking annoyed, he arrived late and now he's holding up the tour with stupid games.

She had her arms crossed while she watched Brady play ball with the kids. She kept her eye on the time and took a seat giving yet another deep sigh. She hated being held up, she always planned everything and this wasn't in her plans. She was bored to tears. Sport really wasn't her forte.

He was actually purposely doing this, but Mia probably didn't know. If he showed these prospects that he was good, perhaps they'd want to come play with him, instead of against him. He oddly enough had a pair of basketbal shorts under his jeans, and after he kicked his shoes off took his pants off, to reveal the basketball shorts, after a few people looked away, presuming he was stripping, "I'm not Magic Mike, ladies," He laughed. His smile was complimenting to his facial features, a resting face that always seemeed to have a smirk, small dimples would appear with his smiles, and his dark hazel eyes matched his hair as well.

His body wasn't the ideal jocks, he wasn't as buff as the football players or the hockey players, he was rather tall, with a decent build on him. If he got into a fight with someone he wasn't so lanky as to lose within the first few minutes. As the game played on, they agreed on playing until the two on two match got to twenty one points. It was a pretty fun match, he had to admit. The prospects weren't too bad, but he was still able to get by, even dunking on the kids. "That's what's good," He bragged after the dunk, checking the ball they quickly went back into play.

The game ended 21 to 19, separated by only one basket. "That was a good match," He admitted after, hands on his knees panting as well. Once they had barely cooled off, he looked over to Mia sitting by her lonesome, "You okay to go, Mia?" He called to her, "Eager to show these kids teh rest of the school?" He asked, noticing she seemed rather bored by their match.

She stood up finally. "Let's go" She said simply and walked off out followed by the group. She was severely irritated by Brady. She wanted to throttle him. She was now forty five minutes late. Meaning they would get around the whole school now because of his stupid game. She wanted to scream. She had ocd which made it so hard for when plans didn't go the way she had made them. She gave a quick tour before the lunch break to try and make up for lost time but she was still a half hour behind schedule.

Once it was time for lunch she took the group to the diner. "The University has said you get your lunch on the house as you're guests" she said smiling, she was still flustered a little but she was starting to calm down. "So, everyone grab a tray and queue up for your food and take a seat at the table over by the window. We have an hour lunch before the tour continues, so take your time and have an chat with everyone and get to know each other, after all you could possibly studying with them next year!" she said smiling before making her way over to the salad bar and getting a simple salad. She wasn't overly hungry this afternoon with the stress of being behind schedule. She got her food and took it to a table to side by herself. She sighed and took a sip of water then tucked into her salad.

Brady grinned, he figured if she pushed her hard enough over the day, perhaps she'd tell him to go die in a hole and not be his tutor. As they walked through the campus, he didn't know how far behind they were on a schedule he had no idea they were working on, "So you're my tutor, if you didn't know," He said to her with a small smile as they headed through the university, the cafeteria pretty close to them. "Now I get this line and get-up looks like a cafeteria your used to in highschool, but trust me, it's some good food," He said to them.

Taking his spot in line beside Mia as she grabbed her tray and quickly moved through the line, getting simply a salad, "Come on, with those looks you're gonna fall into such a stereotype?" He teased her as she grabbed the salad while he busily filled his tray with a mountain of food. He hadn't eaten yet in the day and he was feeling pretty darn hungry. "Studying, and partying with them, mainly partying," He laughed to the students beside him that were also seeming to giggle a little bit, knowing that they too enjoyed parties. He saw Mia sitting by and decided perhaps he should give her some company, "So what'll we be studying on our first study date?" He asked. "I wanan save the anatomy of the human body for like maybee fifth or sixth?" He said.

She stopped and looked at him over her fork at the 'Anatomy' comment. "Honey, you wouldn't be able to handle my anatomy, so lets drop it there, I have been warned about you from your councillor. You will have to try very very hard if you want me to quit on being your tutor... I like a challenge, and I am a stubborn bitch" She added as she finished her salad, She took a sip of her water and looked at him. "As for our first study session" she added extra emphasis on the word 'session' "We will be starting from the beginning of the first module of this year, we will be going over everything you need to know for the next module exam." She said with rather an evil smile. She was going to make him work. It was punishment enough for her to have to do this so if she was going to suffer so was he.

She took another sip of her water while she flicked through her 'Spiral Direct' magazine. Some of the 'popular' girls walked past in their cheer leader outfits and threw some vulgar comments to Mia. She just stuck her middle finger up at them. She got bullied way too often at school, she has heard pretty much any insult you could possibly come up with. They made their way over to Brady and gave him a few flirtatios giggles before addressing the fact he was sat with the 'Witch' "What are you doing, like, sat with this witch?" She said attempting to offend her. "I wish I was a witch, then I could use magic to kill you instead, then I would have to go to jail for getting rid of superficial bitches that sleep around with frat boys just because, 'They're like, toats hot y'know?" The last part was said imitating their annoying voices. She never took her eyes off her magazine, she continued to flick through it as though they didn't even exist. The girls all gave her death glares which just made her smile, "Well, go on, answer them Brady. Why are you sat with me? " She asked looking up at him, she wasn't expecting him to actually sit with her in public so she would like to know also.

Brady laughed as she made a snarky comment on his anatomy, and he looked to his pile of food and took a few bites as she spoke to him, "Dear if I really wanted you, nothing would stop you from falling faster then an iron beam," He chuckled. He had to protest somewhat, her rigorous study regiment was unbearable, "Mia, if you make me go over an entire module, I'll end up digging my eyes out with a dull knife," He scowled, "There has to be some middle-ground where we can compromise," He said. Her evil smile definitely had crushed what morale he had in the belief that they could find a middle ground though.

He rolled his eyes as he saw the cheerleaders, he glanced over to Mia as they commented on her apparel, also calling her the witch. Seems they knew each other, a lot better then he thought they did. Her middle finger to them was rather bold, and he actually kind of liked it. Not enough girls stood up to these girls he tried to not hang around too much with. He smiled a fake smile back to the ladies as they gave him a few flirty giggles, probably hoping that he'd side with them as they stood there in front of the two of them, bashing Mia, purposely asking him why he was sitting with her.

Mia definitely sported a pair of claws, and used them very well against these women, and he had to hide his mouth as he tried not to laugh at the mockery she made of their voices. It was rather accurate, he had to admit. She finally looked up from her magazine and glanced to him, making him shrug his shoulders, "I don't know, it's a free country last time I checked and I should be able to sit wherever I want, we don't have a caste system so why do you care?" He asked, looking from Mia, and then to the cheerleaders.

"Yeah right, you aren't my type, I don't like 'Jocks' " She said rolling her eyes at him. She listened to his moan about digging his eyes and shrugged accepting it before turning back to her magazine. " No middle ground. You do as I say, like it or lump it, its what's happening, if you gouge out your eyes then so be it." she said smiling "Your councillor said you needed to redo all the modules, so that is what we shall do. Get ready to spend a lot of time in the library" She said smiling sweetly at him.

She saw him roll his eyes at the cheer girls and frowned slightly, weren't all the jocks sleeping with at least one of them? They spent a lot of time together so you would assume he would enjoy their company, especially when they are giggling and basically throwing them selves all over him. She also noticed that his smile was fake too, she was good at reading people, spending the majority of your time alone made it easy to study people from afar. She noticed him hide his mouth when she gave them a verbal punch in the tit. She was also quite surprised to hear him say what he said about why he was sat with her.

"Well, whatevz. Brady! There's a party on at Nikki's house tomorrow night, and you're, like, so invited. The Witch isn't though, she would just like, kill the mood." The taller more large breasted cheer leader said giving Mia a big fake smile. "Oh, my ....my heart! Serena my heart! You , you just broke it into a million pieces! I don't know what I will do with my life now that I'm not invited to Slutty Nikki's party! I wish I would just die! I can't live any more knowing that I am not invited!" she said in an overly dramatic but extremely sarcastic voice before returning to her normal 'go and die' face. She knew the majority of the cheerleaders from her old high school. They always bullied her and picked on her until one day her Aunt told her to rip out their glued in fake hair extensions if they tried anything again. Ever since they ended up crying holding their bald patches, they bullied her from a distance from then on.

She definitely gave him no ground to move on her terms of their studying, evidently even his counselor was enjoying her tormenting of him. Most people would've told her to go and die as well, but the way these cheerleaders had teased the girl, he decided to stick it out with her, the obvious annoyance in Serena's voice with his decision to eat with her was apart of the reason why he chuckled at them, as well as the overly sarcastic remarks that Mia shot back at them. The ladies didn't seem too happy with the fact that he wasn't joining the girls in razzing her, and seemed to lose their interest in continuing the conversation.

"Look ladies, just go do your thing, and I'll talk to you guys later about the party, I might have to study instead of party.. My counselor's not too happy with me, neither are most of my professors," He said to them, getting them to shoo away for now. After they had their fun, and were left with their tails tucked between their legs from the words of Mia, he looked to her, "You've got balls, Mia," He said to her, smiling. "I think I mis-judged you," He added, "Perhaps studying with you might be fun after all," He said, before taking a fork full of food into his mouth.

Once he got them to leave and he said that he might even enjoy studying with her she almost chocked on her water. She raised a brow "Hmm, We shall see as time goes on, However you are welcome to go to the party tomorrow if you wish, I hadn't planned on starting to tutor you until Monday" She said as she continued reading her magazine, making mental notes on which clothes to buy. She knew that Friday nights and Saturday nights were a big thing to Frat houses. As much as she hated them, she kinda wanted the weekend to herself. Today was Friday, the last day before she could relax and sit down to a good book with a glass of wine and some nature soundtracks. "As for having 'balls' I don't really, I just don't give a shit any more what anyone has to say, I don't like any one and I don't expect people to like me back either."

She had one friend, her best friend. She loved her to pieces, she was more popular than Mia but it didn't bother either of them. She was a cheerleader though, not many people know about their friendship as they don't often spend time together during the day due to her cheer practice and the fact that Mia is usually in the library or studying some where quiet. They usually have a few drinks in a quiet bar or at their flats during the weekends and keep up to date with each other through text. Everyone who first meets them together and having fun are shocked due to each others social groups and 'cliques' but they have been best friends since they first started school when they were little kids, and they didnt see the point in breaking a good friendship just because Lana was a 'popular' girl and Mia was the 'Dark Child' as was her nick name through out school, which eventually evolved into Witch due to a rumour that she apparently practised witchcraft and tried to summon demons. Which was completely inaccurate.

She heard her phone beep, the took it out of her bag and opened it, a text from Lana, 'Omgz! u r SOOOO toats coming to the partaaayyyy 2moz! I will drag u thr myself if I hv 2! Spoke 2 Niks n she sez its fine :D xoxoxo" Mia read the message and sighed. She often wished Lana would text her using the actual English Language but she smiled all the same and shook her head "If I have to, fine xxx" she replied simply to her. "Great" she mumbled to herself giving a deep sigh.

He nodded, "Well, today is Friday but I'm not exactly up to much, so you sure you don't wanna kick it off early?" He asked her, for once his Friday wasn't booked up with a silly party, and he raised an eyebrow at her, "I didn't mean literally balls," He said, "I mean it takes a hell of a woman to stand up to 'em," He said to her as they sat and spoke, "I promise you're gonna end up liking me," He said to her, "I've got that Han Solo kind of appeal," He said to her with a smile, which she probably figured was the only sci fi he knew, which honestly, probably was.

Watching her as she pulled her phone out, and sighed, he wondered what she'd just been texted, knowing it probably wasn't the best news for her. He heard her mumble, but couldn't make out what she was saying, to herself, "You okay, Mia?" He asked, genuinely for once. He was curious as to what she'd been told.

She rolled her eyes "I knew what you meant, I meant that I don't think it takes much to stand up to them, not any more anyway... " she trailed off "and as for your so called 'Han Solo' appeal, I don't see it" she said in a matter of factly tone. "And if the only sci-fi you know of is Star Wars, then we certainly wont get along" She added, sighing as she looked at her phone again. "Yeah, everything's fine" she said, she didn't want to tell him she would be attending the party tomorrow. She looked up at the ceiling, mentally praying to all the Gods of every religion that she would just die in her sleep tonight so she wouldn't have to attend this so called 'party' she knew how these things worked. A house ends up being over crowded by way too many people, the people drink way too much then way too much 'heavy petting' goes on then way too many of them have sex, and not everyone retires to an empty room. This was just way too much for her. She sighed as she returned to her normal posture.

"Forget it then, I tried," He said to her as he gave up, she obviously only wanted to make his life miserable for the next few weeks until the end of the semester, "I'll hep you around for the rest of the day doin' this.. shit," He said, referring to the walk-around they were giving the students before he stood up, taking his empty plate that had been covered in food previously, "And after that, I'll see you Monday," He said to her before heading off to dump his tray into the trash, and place the plastic tray on top of the garbage with the others.

He turned, heading back to a table where a few of his friends were sitting, and sat down. A few of them bugged him for sitting with the Witch, and he shook his head, "You guys are just as bad as her sometimes you know," He said to them, "I bet if it wasn't for guys like us, and girls like those bitches, she'd actually be someone who would be interested in talking to someone," He said to them, giving up on his friends for the lunch period, "Whatever, forget what I said.. I'll see you guys after class is over," He said, standing up yet again. He looked to the new kids who were all chatting, getting to know each other, and headed over, figuring they'd probably have to head out soon.

She frowned at him and watched him leave and sit with his friends only to get up a few moments later and leave the table. She looked at her watch as she stood up. She took her tray to the trash and made her way back over to the group of kids. "Okay everyone, time to get going!" She said, putting a happy smile on and using a happier tone to her usual one. She didn't pay much attention to Brady the rest of the day.

Once the tour was over she was relieved that they had managed to make up the time lost with Brady's games. She took the kids back to the reception where she could leave them to their own devices. She handed in her clipboard to the lady at reception and smiled at her before leaving and making her way back home. She was physically jumped on from behind by her preppy cheer friend Lana as soon as she stepped outside of reception. She jumped a little startled but smiled at her "Hey! Piggy back?" Lana said happily. Mia laughed but nodded and grabbed her legs and continued to walk with her friend on her back. She wasn't bothered, Lana weighed almost nothing, she was a topper for the cheer group. Mia admired her bravery, allowing the other girls to throw her around like they did and to be at the top of the pyramids they did. Mia would just not cope at all.

It was Lana's turn to go to Mias house tonight. They swapped it around every other night. When they got back to hers Lana made herself at home with a glass of wine and picked out a 'scary' film for them to watch. Mia got herself a glass too and the popcorn and chilled out on the sofa, laughed whenever Lana screamed and hid behind a pillow. Once the movie was over Lana said her good byes and Mia waved her off before retiring to her bedroom. She took all her make-up off and got into her playboy bunny pyjamas. A Christmas gift from Lana so she kept them, that and they were warm as hell. She fell asleep almost instantaneously as her head hit the pillow.

Brady took his time, following behind Mia as she toured the rest of the campus to the students, she was pretty good at getting them pumped up, and getting them interested in the school academics, and even seemed to make a good joke here and there, which he had to smile and laugh to a few of them. Damn her for making him laugh, he'd though to himself since earlier that day she'd frustrated him to actually be repelled by her for the lunch period. She was doing a good job of pretending he was dead too, several times he'd tried to talk to her, and she'd not really talk back, either ending the conversation quickly, or not replying at all, leading him to only more mental frustration that he tried to hide, horribly at that.

When she was finally done, Brady talked to a few of the prospect kids again, making sure that they were interested in their school for sure, and even promising great parties next year if they came, in their honor. Once they were all gone, Brady gave himself to okay to leave, and head back to his dorm. He could've sworn he saw Lana, a cheerleader that he'd talked to a few times get a piggy back from Mia. He also had smoked weed earlier that day too, so he figured he was seeing things. He took his time heading back to the apartment, being sure to get some dinner on the way back a sandwich shop.

His form of relaxation after the day was a complete opposite to Mia's, instead of drinking wine and watching a scary movie, he chose to spend his time attempting to top the leaderboards in a video game he played, although it did a good job at giving him highs and lows with being killed horribly, as well as making little kids from Canada cry themselves to sleep. He wrapped up the night with a good-night toke and fell asleep on his couch, TV and video games still playing as he snored away, completely knocked out.

He woke up to the sound of his phone ringing, and he lazily leaned over the couch, eyes barely open as he answered the phone, one of his friends Adam was on the other end, telling him that they were hitting the gym to train for the upcoming game they had. He said he'd be there as soon as he had showered, and eaten .He ended the call, got up and headed to begin preparing for the day, as well as the party later that evening. After he had showered, and eaten a bowl of cereal, Brady grabbed his keys and headed out to the gym, happy to start his day. Oddly, in the back of his mind, the thought of Mia had come up, but like he had done yesterday, and to others, he pushed it out of his mind, and tried to focus on practicing once he was inside the gym.

The next morning she awoke rather bright eyes and bushy tailed, then she remembered that she promised Lana she would go to a stupid frat.. cheerleader... stupid thing of a party. She let out a deep sigh and collapsed back onto her bed looking up at the ceiling. She didn't really have much planned for today. She picked up her phone and texted Lana "You doing anything today? xxx" She got a message mack almost instantaneously "Yep! Cheer practice, you should come watch! We can hang out during breaks :D <3 Oh and you could bring your camera! Take some snaps for the uni site! We need updated pics! xoxoxo" Mia laughed "Yeah, yeah alright, I'll be there soon" She replied as she got out of bed. She made her way into the kitchen and made herself a bacon and egg sandwich.

Once she ate she made her way into her bathroom and continued with her morning routine. She never had much to do Saturday's so weekends were always free for her. Once showered and teeth brushed she went to get dried and dressed. She picked out a pretty to the knee dress that had a nice collar to it, however there was a diamond shape sut out so it showed of her nice cleavage, not to much, just enough to be classy. She added some 'normal' tights to it and her 3 inch platform ankle boots with buckles and straps. She finished her hair and only brushed the fringe, she let the rest dry messy. She added a black devil horned headband to finish the look. Once she was satisfied she did her makeup and once that was done she made her way out, grabbing her bat winged backpack and her trusty Nikon D5100.
