When people think of the cloud city where angels live, they think of this fluffy place where streets are made of gold and buildings are simple and everything falls into place. But that is not the case. The place was beautiful, different in its own fashion but nowhere simple. The lush streets were filled with people carrying baskets and talking to one another. To the left of the main area were the residential places and to the right was a training ground. Yes a training ground. The idea that a war is on the horizon had the angels up in arms already. Ever training their youngest people to be able to pick up a sword and fight; one of the youngest and most talented was the pride of the Arch Angel Michael. His daughter Angela was the star pupil of the training grounds but she never really seemed to enjoy the training as much as the others.

“Is the training too easy for you?” Michael said, approaching his daughter who was pulling off the armor they trained in.

“I don’t understand it father.” She said simply, her green eyes looking up at the identical pair her father had. “We have been training for centuries and nothing has happened. The humans thrive; the demons keep to themselves and everything in between seems to be just focusing on themselves.”

“That means they’ll crack soon. We must be on guard and you are destined for greatness. To take over my spot when I die as a protector of the humans.”

“They don’t need our help; they are thriving on their own. Why push your job onto me when it doesn’t seem like it’s needed?” Angela said as she tossed her armor aside, she hated the training; she hated fighting and did what she could to avoid it. It wasn’t long before the two were fighting, their voices erupted around the town as the young blonde girl stormed off and her blonde father was hot on her trail. Their fighting turned into screaming, her father was trying to force her into a corner of being something she didn’t want to. Everyone has a destiny, is what she’s always been told but her father seems to think that a destiny was the same as his. The blonde girl shoved clothes into a bag and grabbed a key from the wall.

“Where do you think you’re going?” Michael snapped at his daughter.

“I’m going to earth. You seem to be rather set on me doing your job so I’m going to take a few days to walk in their shoes like you did.” She said turning to face him as she held up the keys. “I’m staying at your place but I will be disabling the cameras. I’d like my privacy as I explore their world.” With that she left the house and slammed the door hard behind her.

Earth was brighter than she thought it would be. In the cloud city, clouds blocked a lot of the sun but here, the sun was rather intense. After squinting through the sun, Angie finally found her home and let herself in. A small sigh left her as she looked around. There was a lot more to this apartment than meets the eye, a protection spell not allowing anything but angels in unless someone of the Arch Angel’s bloodline changes it, things were spread out so if she wanted to be outside of her human form she could relax and stretch out her wings. Arriving at the nearby mirror she expected herself as the sun started to go down. A smile moved across her full lips before her attention looked upwards. Her halo was still visible to her. Her hand reached up and touched it, it blurred as her hand went through it but then returned to its sharp feature and soft white color. A shrug lifted her shoulders, when her dad would tell her stories about going to earth, he told her that he and other beings besides humans could see the halo but most people just went about whatever they were doing. With that, she locked the door behind her, had her little purse over her shoulders , blue jeans on her hips and a tank top over her top half; blonde hair down she made her way into the city as the sun began to set. The City that Never sleeps, New York City; this should be interesting.

After hearing his alarm go off, Adam slowly sat up in his bed and glanced over at his phone before shutting off the bird chirping sound. It was about 5 pm, and you might wonder...why his alarm was set for 5 in the evening? The answer to your question would be this : He's a demon ( well, half demon ) and he's a bartender whose shift starts at 7pm and ends at 1am.

Getting up out of his bed slowly, he stretches his arms above his head and brings them down slowly before scratching at his neck. Running a hand through his already messy hair that was sticking out in several places, he went into his bathroom where he showered and washed up before brushing his teeth and rinsing with mouthwash. Lifting his head up slowly and looking at his reflection in the mirror, his normally honey colored eyes turned dark blue for a few seconds and his black wings stretched out behind him.

Being in a city that was mostly filled with humans meant that he didn't get a chance to ' be himself ' as much as he wanted. He had thought about moving to a different city several times but he's always found reasons to stay.

" Another day, another dollar right? "

He looked down to see the fuzzy gray ball of fur known as Delia staring up at him and she meowed before pawing at his leg.

" Yeah, I'm hungry too. Let's go see what we can find in the fridge. "

Putting on a clean pair of boxers and the black pants that were part of his uniform, he walked through his apartment to the kitchen where he looked through the fridge and decided on a roast beef sandwich with fries ( which he had to pop into the oven ). While he waited for the fries he opened a can of tuna and gave Delia about a third of it before putting the rest into the fridge. She was content with her meal and Adam focused on eating his sandwich while he waited for his fries. He was about halfway done with his sandwich when his phone rang from the bedroom and he wandered in there to answer it.

" Hello? "

" Hey Adam it's Dan. "

Dan was Adam's boss.

" Hey Dan, you sound a little annoyed about something. Everything okay? "

" One of the new girls just told me she can't work tomorrow because ' something came up at the last minute ' and it's something that she absolutely can't miss. "

Adam could just hear the air quotes.

" It's not Emily is it? "

" How'd you guess? "

" Guessing games are something that I'm good at. Did you call to ask if I could take her shift? "

" Well I can't deny that you're rarely wrong when it comes to guessing things. "

Adam waited for what he KNEW was coming.

" Would you mind terribly...taking her shift? I know you have tomorrow off and everything but I'd rather not be short staffed. We also seem to get more business when you're here. "

" Is this your way of trying to butter me up Dan? "

" Is it working? "

Adam laughed and scratched Delia's chin when she hopped onto the bed.

" Yeah, it's working. What time should I be there? "

" You're a saint Adam, you know that? Can you be here by 4? "

" I can do that. "

" Great! I would tell you to enjoy the rest of your day, but you're going to be here in about an hour so the point is probably moot. "

" I wouldn't necessarily call it moot. But anyway, I'll see you in about an hour. "

" Thanks again Adam! "

" You're welcome. Bye Dan. "

" Bye. "

He pushed the ' End Call ' button and put his phone in his pocket before he headed back to the kitchen, where he took the fries out of the oven and turned it off. Salting the fries a little bit, he consumed them and the rest of his sandwich while Delia watched him from the bedroom doorway.

" I'll be home around the usual time sweetie, be a good girl while I'm gone okay? "

He got a meow in response followed by a purr when he bent down and petted her. After he finished getting dressed he put his wallet in his pants and grabbed his keys before getting into his car and heading off to work.

The streets of New York City were surprising. Not because they were clean or because they were messy but because they gave off different vibrations of emotions. There was happiness and sadness, some vibrations were joyful, others were depressed. There was anger in the air as well; crime of many styles but kindness could also be felt. There was love as well as hatred, lust along with honest passion. For an angel, walking through the streets of New York City was like walking into a gold mine of never-before-felt emotions. “Wow…” She said softly as she passed people, the humans emotions read in their sleeves simple as reading the cover of a book. No wonder they needed protection, their weaknesses were spread out for the world to see.

The sights, sounds, smells and thoughts of New York City rang through her small head as she walked. Wow… just wow. The things people thought were crazy. So many ideas, thoughts and directions shoved into such a small space were very impressive. People were thinking about work, school, family, the women on the street corners and something called ‘beer’. Beer… She thought, her mind abuzz as people both stumbling and not stumbling passed her thinking about the same topic. How, interesting… one couple she passed actually talked about a nice bar they had gone to and enjoyed beers at. Tilting her head to one side, she gave her small shoulders a little shrug and started towards the way of the bar.

Pushing open the large wooden door she was instantly stopped by a large stern looking man. Her head jerked back in surprise as he demanded to see her driver’s license. Of course, as an Angel and new to earth she never actually drove but she did have one of those license thingies to help her get around while on earth. The man snatched it from her hair and scanned it over with his eyes before looking back at her with an odd expression. Handing her back to the driver’s license he snatched her wrist and placed a stamp on it before allowing her to venture further into the bar. Well that was odd, but if she wasn’t raised properly to want to help humans instead of hurt them she probably would have slugged him in the face; and though she was small and didn’t seem like it should make much of an impact… well he’d fly back ten feet. Good thing she was raised right huh?

Inside the bar was actually really nice. The place wasn’t too crowded but some people were dancing on the dance floor in the middle while others were off playing pool or sitting in the booths chatting. Why hadn’t she come to earth sooner? Every seemed rather happy and go-lucky! What was the cloud city honestly stressing about? Ha.

Smiling she made her way over to the bar and slid herself onto one of the spinning stools, during her time of sitting she had no clue the chair could spin and, much like someone who first experiences a spinning chair, she spun twice around before she felt the presence of the bartender. Stopping by placing her hands on the bar top, she gave the young man a cheeky grin. “A beer please.” She said politely with a lot more excitement that one normally would have asking for such a drink. The only difference between others asking for it and her, is that she obviously didn’t know what type of beer she wanted since she didn’t state the style. Boy was she in for a surprise.
