THIS IS A CLOSED RP.
Veritas

"The belief that there is only one truth, and that oneself is in possession of it, is the root of all evil in the world" ~ Max Born

A collaboration by icmasticc/corneredbliss

How things work

As far as mechanics go, this is a pretty simple RP. Normally I have sections explaining important mechanics, but this can all go in one neat section.

Firstly, in this RP, players will fill the role of the antagonists. Now, they aren't considered evil just for the sake of it, but that is the role they would fall under. They're on a quest to discover the truth in the history of the world and end up discovering a bit more than that. In addition, they aspire to kill the Guardians who previously brought peace to the world. The reasons for this are tied to the narrative, but on the surface you have to ask yourself a question; can one enjoy a peaceful situation if that peace is brought through the fear of knowing that someone much stronger than you is always watching?

As I said in the interest check, this is a character-driven game meaning that the players will be important in fleshing out the plot with interesting characters and meaningful character interactions. Character actions may even drive the plot at times so it's important for players to really try and be creative and thoughtful with each post. The entirety of the RP will take place in one (giant) location so the pace may seem brisk as we hit action and dialogue segments back to back. What this does though is it creates an RP with no lulls or slow moments and if everyone is contributing properly, the RP will remain very interesting and exciting throughout.

Combat will take place against NPC enemies (played by our Co-GM) though I won't say there won't be moments where we may allow the main characters to fight amongst themselves. You'll have to wait and see for that one. In any case, there is no stat system or anything with the combat, we simply expect you to be able to write coherently and in a way that does not equate to god-modding or powerplaying. That will be in the rules down below anyway.

Finally, the mature content. This will manifest as what some may consider disturbing or graphic imagery, adult themes, and language. There is a reason after all that I classified this as a dark fantasy. Nothing will go against the rules of the forum, but me and Bliss do like to push the limit in darker sort of RPs so try and expect a wide variety of things to occur.
The Rules

The GMs have the final say in all decisions. This is pretty self explanatory.

Please refrain from god-modding or powerplaying. In this instance, god-modding would equate to having your character be the greatest thing there ever was against all enemies. Let's not go that route. Flawed characters are far more interesting than supermen. While saying this, we also frown upon Mary/Gary Sues.

Cursing is allowed obviously.

Quality over quantity. Though we do ask for at least three paragraphs per post, me and Bliss both believe that the greatest posts to read are not always the longest posts. A massively long post that has nothing to say is much worse than three paragraphs that expertly detail a scene, character interaction, action, etc. The quality of one's writing is not measured solely in length. That should be remembered by all.

We have no problems with romance. We can't have graphic sex scenes of course, but romance isn't forbidden or anything.

Communication is key. We really need active players who also can be social in both the IC and OOC. Communication between players makes for a better RP so if you can't be active in both threads, please re-think your position on joining this RP. Communication also leads to proper posting speeds. We don't impose posting limits or order, rather we rely on player intelligence to determine when it is the appropriate time to post. Communication can help strongly with that.

The Cast

NotExceedingTheNines - Malcom Gerheart

Co-GM Bliss here, welcoming one and all to the Veritas OOC thread. I hope to see some lovely PM submissions waiting for me to read with my tea in the morning.

Could I get some explanation on the "inherited abilities" part of the character skeleton? I am unsure what it's supposed to mean. Are those the only four things we can pick? If so, what are they supposed to do?

So as not to give away too much of the plot;

Somewhere along the way, each character will have inherited an ability, transforming them into an elemental. For example, if you had chosen fire, your character would eventually be able to bend and manipulate flames. If you had chosen shadow, then your character would eventually be able to bend and manipulate shadows. So on and so forth. And yes, those are the only four to choose from.

Hope that clarifies it?

It does clarify it. Alright, I might drop a char sheet off. Just need to think of a good character for this, since I don't want to go full villain but I do want to embrace the darker aspects of this rp.

Bliss answered that question nicely. In a more basic sense, the powers are limited for plot reasons lol. Glad you found this interesting enough to submit though, badass. I'll take a look at your submission today.

EDIT - I should also say that there is only four powers to choose from because that is tied to our cast count. This will be an RP with four others alongside myself as the main characters for a total of five. Bliss will be playing the Guardians, other enemies, and NPC characters. This will be a small cast RP in the end, though we will allow many to submit characters if they wish before choosing the final cast.

I'm extremely interested, having seen the IntChk the other day. However, I feel I should mention that this would be my first Advanced roleplay - I've stuck to High-Casual prior to this. I'll put together a CS for consideration anyway.

High-Casual is a-okay with us, Halo. I'm sure you will be more than fine! In any case, thank you for considering us to be your first Advanced game. We don't bite much, promise.

Looking forward to your PM!

That's fine Halo lol. I wrote that quality over quantity rule for a reason. Looking forward to your CS.

I've got a CS from Halo and Adora so far. Keep them coming people. We will choose the final cast after a limited amount of time. For now though, feel free go converse in the thread.

If two people apply for the same inherited power, can one of them change to another one? I'm asking this because I'm honestly happy with any inherited power, though metal was the one that struck my fancy the most.

Yeah, we will tell one of the doubles to change powers when we choose the final cast.

I'll ditto this, particularly as I also went for metal! Days of Future Past is clearly having an effect on me.

As Icc said: If an x amount players who had chosen the same element all make it into the final list, we'll just kindly ask the rest them to change their ability and leave the chosen element with the character we feel it'd click with the most.

Ugh, Days of Future Past was brilliant, wasn't it?

Makes sense.

And it was fantastic! I hadn't seen First Class until the day I went to see DOFP, and was rather anxious that they'd screw up the origin stories of a couple of my favourite characters. Instead, both films were potentially the best X-Men films to date. I was rather pleasantly surprised by how well McAvoy and Fassbender pulled off the roles, I wasn't sure about them at all.

EDIT: Also, sheerly out of curiosity, have you and icmasticc worked together before?

Very much agreed, First Class is probably my favorite of the films - mostly because everything felt so fresh. The aesthetics were incredible in both, too. And the McAvoy/Fassbender chemistry was just spot on, I adore both of them in their roles. Couldn't have picked a better team, in my opinion.

Oh dear, is it that obvious? Hahaha yes, we've worked together before. This is the second game we'll be GMing together, but we've written with each other more times than I can count now. He was one of my first friends on the OldGuild.

EDIT: Yes yes out of curiosity, tell us what tipped you off. :3

I think it was an excellent idea for them to delve into Xavier and Magneto's history. Going back and watching the original trilogy after having seen them as vulnerable young men who made mistakes of their own, knowing the paths they took to lead them to where they are now, is a much-enhanced experience. The series has never been afraid to tackle a few challenging ideas - I mean, the whole thing is essentially an allegory for the persecution of gays - so I think examining the struggles of those young characters and how it affects them was a good move.

Well, to be fair, most people who GM together have written together before at least once or twice, and usually know eachother fairly well. But I think maybe it was just the fact that you each seem comfortable answering the same question? If you didn't know eachother very well I think there'd be more of a hesitancy there. Y'know, wanting to double check with one another or not tread on eachother's toes, so to speak. You're both relaxed and chatty, so that indicated you knew eachother... there was nothing in particular, I just had the feeling you had, that's all. ^^;
