Rewatching them made me remember how Katniss was thrown into the rebellion without much regard for her, personally. She became a symbol when I think she just wanted to lay low and look after her family, and then Haymitch and the others took her "victory" as an opportunity to spark a rebellion so it would be more interesting to have it be more gradual, rather than she being out of the loop with so much secrecy.

It would be good to leave Haymitch and Katniss in the dark about any plot to break out of the arena, if either got hinted, it might make things challenging with Haymitch trying to control things and Katniss possibly overreacting.

If they start in the wilds. I think we should prepare to have Gale and Prim keep a stock of extra items during the Hunger Games so they have some support when they escape into the wilds. I assume them being there would be on purpose? Maybe the plan would be to break out of the arena and have them eventually be picked up by another district? No word from 13 right now, since we want to keep the whole thing at bay and all. Or would that not work?

Agreed. I know she never wanted to be anyone's symbol.

I'm thinking she and Haymitch could be a hiccup because things never go according to plan. I think Katniss would catch on to the secrecy between Gale/Prim and the other victors before Haymitch, so maybe we could throw in an argument, or have them kind of placate her and tell her nothing is going on? When they eventually do escape, Katniss would be reluctant to trust them and it would put some strain on those relationships?

No, I think that would work. We could reason that Peeta was supposed to arrange the pick up, but he got taken before he could follow through on his end, so they're stuck in the wilds and waiting? We could bring in Effie or Cinna, or even Plutarch through that because one of them could enact the final step of the plan.

I think we could have some switch in sisterly relationship with Prim and Katniss, sure. It's understandable if Prim is coming into her own and taking on more responsibility while Katniss may feel left out, and without Peeta (despite probably not liking him) and Gale maybe being more distant if he's with Prim so much.

That works for me. I think we could have Coin try and capture Katniss for her own reasons when Katniss was meant to stay hidden from district to district, so it could be a sort of three sided war, rather than the two sided one we had going on the books.

It will be really interesting to see how she handles that, even if she always acts like she prefers to be alone. I imagine Prim would feel pretty bad about the whole thing and aside from Gale she's pretty convinced Katniss is all she's got.

That sounds good to me. I could see Coin somehow assisting Snow and then betraying him in order to get Katniss for herself and it will be fun to play up how unhinged Coin has sort of become. I never felt like the books did her mental state justice.

It sounds like we have a good starting ground. One question I had to ask is that with the reaping, would we want Haymitch called and Katniss make Peeta promise beforehand to not volunteer? Or would we want Peeta reaped with Haymitch taking his place for Katniss? I think whichever way we go, would impact how Katniss' mind is going into the games. Either way, Katniss would feel rather responsible for picking between Peeta and Haymitch's safety unless we wanted to approach it another way and have Katniss and Haymitch plan to enter together, knowing he'd be more useful since we could give Peeta his leg injury or something like that? After writing it out, I think Katniss forcing Haymitch or Peeta to do something, would mess with the dynamic too much...

And I could edit the first post a bit for info about our general direction, Quarter Quell rules we decided, possible arena pictures and tricks, as we make them up.

I think if we're going to stick to canon and not ignore Peeta's leg, then Haymitch would feel obligated to volunteer for Peeta regardless of what Katniss had to say. Although I imagine that she still sees Peeta as an innocent, and would want to keep him safe. No matter how Haymitch ends up in the games, it will be bittersweet, but I think both he and Katniss will agree that Peeta will need to stay safe. I could see the two of them devising their own plan for the arena and leaving Prim and Gale out of it thinking they'll be protecting them too, but that's just an idea. For the sake of the story and the emotional impact it's going to have, let's let Haymitch volunteer.

So if we have Haymitch and Katniss already planning their game plan, would we want to include Peeta since he'd be the mentor? I mean, would he be surprised by Hatmich's action or would he also be already aware of the agreement and Katniss being too stubborn to let him enter again when he, let's be honest, probably should have died.

Include him as in one of us play him? I don't think he would be surprised by it. Since he's got his injury, I doubt that he thinks Katniss will let him be a tribute again, and I'm pretty sure he's aware of her need to make him survive. I think he would feel a little guilty for Haymitch volunteering, because he's also probably aware that he should have and would have died if it weren't for Katniss. I think he'll be a fine mentor, though, especially since we're not including the romance between him and Katniss, and he can just help his friends out from the Capitol.

Ans I also think it's a role we could share, if needed, depending on our post.

I think we're about ready, I did edit the first post so tell me what you think about my summary of everything, if I need to change it, etc. And I think I could start us off tonight.

I think we could treat him like an NPC and use him as needed. I could see us both playing him when they're finally all together again and using him to further our posts in terms of dialogue, that way we're not worried about godmodding each other. Since they're doing the tour in the beginning, though, I can play him in the scenes that he's in with Katniss if you like?

I think we're good to go! I might have to find a face for older!Prim just for fun and maybe we could edit it in. We could probably use a map of the arena too, but that can come in time. Thanks for offering to start, btw. I'm swamped with replies for the moment, so I really appreciate it.
