"Not an issue for me. I don't sleep much no more." Lee stood up too and headed for her own mat. "What with them things moanin' and howlin' all night. Ain't nobody can get a decent night's sleep 'round here."

"Right," Florence knew how that felt. When she was waiting it out in Armadillo, when her husband was still with her, they would live on the rooftops with the other survivors. But they started to die off. Every so many days, someone would have to retrieve food and water for the group, and they would each take their turn with who had to stay on night watch and who got to sleep. The undead did not sleep - there was no rest for the wicked. The day her husband went to retrieve, he never returned and she had not seen him since.
However, she had learned to sleep with the growling and snarling of the undead. Like the howling of coyotes at night, it was just something that would have to be accepted.
"Well, if you don't mind," Florence started as she took one of the thick blankets and blankets and placed it on the floor, up against the wall. She slowly sat down on it, resting her back against the wall and placing her face in her hand. "I'm gonna get some shut eye."

Lee nodded and laid down in her own blankets, turning her back to the the lantern. It was going to be an interesting night. She'd probably be the first one to wake up... if she ever fell asleep. An undead moaned somewhere outside in the distance. Lee grunted. When will this end? HOW will it end? Lee hated thinking about these questions and she'd often push them out of her mind, but, some nights she just couldn't.

The morning came and Florence awoke to find that Lee was wide awake.
"Mornin'," she muttered as she scratched the back of her head and got to her feet. She made her way over to where Robert was sleeping and lightly nudged him with her boot. "Rise and shine, princess," she smirked down at him.

"Yeah." Lee sat up, shoving the blankets off. She was exhausted. As predicted. As she had anticipated, she'd gotten precisely zero hours of sleep. She looked toward Florence, trying to wake Robert. It didn't seem like her efforts were having much of an effect on him. "I got an idea." Lee got up and went to one of the shelves. She picked up some ginger and pulled a knife out of her breast. She peeled some of the skin off and sneezed to the side as the strong scent filled her nostrils. "Watch this." She smirked.

She brought the ginger to the sleeping man and placed it right under his nose, knowing the scent would definitely wake him up.

Robert stayed quiet during the conversation last night. It wasn't because he was shy or uncomfortable, but more ashamed at his story. Both these women were around for their family, even if they didn't seem to care that much. But Rob? He had no clue. Was his family alive? Dead? Did they think the same of him? Lost in his thoughts he reached behind his back and pulled out his beloved kukri, the knife that sent him into solitude. Sitting in the far corner of the room he slowly drifted to sleep with "what-if" questions.

"Rise and shine, princess."

Robert was slowly coming to consciousness, when suddenly a strong scent caused him to jump awake.
"WHOA! I'M A WAKE!" He staggered to his feet, "What in the hell was that?"

Florence chuckled as Robert jumped to his feet from the smell of the ginger. "Glad we're all up," she said. "I suggest we have somethin' to eat, then head north. Cochinay is at least a couple hours away." She stretched her arms out before making her way over to the miniature stable and checked on her horse.

Lee laughed at Robert. The ginger had worked. "I don't think I got much for food, but I think that could be easily remedied."

As Florence made her way back into the main room, she retrieved a slice of bread she had managed to save from the last town she stopped by. "I won't burden you with my own personal needs," she told Lee. "Once we are stabilized, we can establish a food retrieving routine. Until then, we will be responsible for our own food." She slid on her coat and leaned against the wall as she ate. The sound of the undead growling and hissing seeped through the walls. They sounded unusually violent today. "Nasty little fuckers got themselves in an upset," she chuckled, gesturing to the outside.

Lee chuckled. "Sounds like a plan. As for them? I have no doubt we can take 'em. It doesn't sound like there are too many." She flicked a blade out of her sleeve for emphasis.
"I'll be bringin' all my knives with me. There's more than enough in my pack to handle it. Not to mention, y'all got guns, donchya?"

Florence grinned as she pulled her coat back to reveal a double action revolver nestled in her holster. "Bet your ass," she remarked.

Once everyone had woken up and was ready for the journey, they took hold of their horses reins and began to lead them out from the secret room. "Y'all ready?"

"Ready as I'll ever be." Lee said, latching several packs of medicines and blankets to her horse's saddle. She ave each of the other two their own, smaller supply of basic medicines just in case they got separated. She also handed them a few extra rounds of ammo. "Not sure if they'll work for ya, but it's worth a try. The old boss used ta keep that under the counter in case some dumbass thought it would be smart to rob us. Never happened though."

"Much appreciated," Florence nodded as she accepted the ammo and medicine from Lee. As they led their horses out onto the streets, they were met with madness. Numerous undead were littered across the streets, frothing at the mouth, howling at each and every sound. With their horses getting spooked, the undead's attention snapped onto the small group. Quickly, Florence rushed to saddle up. "We gotta get outta here," she tried to keep her voice low as she spoke.

Lee looked in awe at the large crowd of undead. She'd never seen so many here since the day the disease peaked. "You owe 'em somethin'? 'cause that's a lot." She hopped on her horse and pulled a shortsword out of its holster on her back and readying it for a swing.

Florence gritted her teeth as she spurred her horse forward, ploughing through the hordes of undead that had mysteriously gathered in Blackwater over night. She made sure Lee and Robert were in line behind her. She did her best not to use her gun, as ammo was still low, but resorted to using it once or twice when an undead got dangerously close. With little ease, the three managed to make their way out of Blackwater and were onto the dusty roads of West Elizabeth, headed north west to Cochinay. As they rode, Florence called back to the others.
"What the hell was that?! How could so many gather over night?"

Rob unsheathed his Kukri as he sat firmly on Arrow. He tried to keep his fear hidden, last thing these two needed to see was him freaking out. He'd faced the undead before, but never in a huge mass like this. Still, last thing they needed was a panic attack.

Cutting through on horse back wasn't as hard as he had thought. While he didn't have much range, any who tried getting close met with their second untimely demise. Once they had finally lost sight of the horde, Robert leaned forward and rested on his horse.

"I ain't got a clue. Maybe being in a group gave us stronger scent for them to find." Robert was just BSing, he was just as confused as Florence but had to at least try and rationalize it.

Lee kept quiet as they wive their way through the crowd of undead. The stench was almost unbearable. The mixed smells of bad breath and rotting flesh were enough to make a grown man cry. She looked forward to Robert. He seemed unchanged. As did Florence. Lee wasn't particularly scared, just uncomfortable. She'd dealt with so many of them that this, as strange as it was, did little to phase her.

Once out, both of the others spoke. Lee agreed that their scent might be stronger now that there are three together, but part of her was uncertain. She'd been studying the undead for a while now. It seemed to her that they were getting smarter. Hunting in packs and raiding cities. They began hunting at night when they knew their prey would be trying to sleep that way they were less likely to get shot.

"That is quite likely," Florence called back to Robert. She had never thought about it that way. But, now that she thought about it, she realized that there seemed to be more undead gravitating towards her when she was in a group, rather than alone. Although, she was sure Robert was just guessing, he may have been spot on.
"We need to move quickly," she called back to Lee and Robert. "Hopefully we will make it to Cochinay before sundown...and hopefully they won't be overrun. In the case that they are, we'll either have to cleanse the place or continue riding until we find a safe place to camp out."

"I don't mind a little house cleaning." Lee let an evil grin cross her face. She flicked a small throwing knife out of her sleeve for emphasis. "I'd actually find it quite entertainin'. Ain't had nothin' to do stuck in that hole in the floor."

Florence chuckled lightly at Lee's remark as they rode. "Good to see you don't have a problem with puttin' those deranged creatures down," she called back to her.
The ride to Cochinay would be a fair distance and take a fair time but Florence was sure the three of them could make the best of it.
