Real World:
Spring 2015: The Sci-fi channel buys the rights to Heroes. Because most of the original actors have moved on to other things, they decide to launch a spinoff for their fall lineup. A week after doing the casting, however, the writers go on strike, so they decide to let the actors right the story based on the simple premise that the writers came up with: two years after their kind of people are revealed to the world, A group of supers come together to learn to cope with the way non-supers see them.
Heroes world:
Angela Petrelli starts a support group in NYC for people with powers, to help them deal with being treated as special by the general population. She funds the meeting and rents a 24/7/365 room at the local community center for them to have their meetings in, but rarely attends.
People generally responded to the existence of supers in some combination of:
1) Conspirators: They think the government, shadow government, etc, have known about people like this, and been using their abilities for personal gain for centuries, if not longer. The fact that they are right only makes them more insufferable.
2) Fanboys: They are obsessed with super-humans, some because of the 9th Wonders comics, some not. In general, they want powers too. They idolize Dr. Suresh, as he went from being a normal human to being a superhuman.
3) Haters: They are obsessed with super-humans, but mostly because they are jealous. They might choose to get powers if it was possible, but they would never be caught saying anything good about the supers.
4) Superhumaniphobes: They hate superhumans. They are an affront to nature/God/etc.
5) Knowers: They see them as useful, as tools to be exploited or a threat to be controlled.
6) Accepters: They believe supers are people too, just people with interesting abilities. Unfortunately, these kinds of people are kind of rare, at least in pure form.
Where the original team is now:
Hiro, Ando, Peter, "Rebel": After Claire's revelation of them to the world, Hiro took a team to the future to see if things would go badly because of it. The team hasn't been seen since.
Matt Parkman: Went back to his wife. Consults with the FBI and occasionally helps them with superhuman threats.
Noah Bennett: Works for the FBI apprehending super-human threats.
Claire: Along with other rapid healers, earns a seven figure income letting a major pharmaceutical company create a Panacea from her blood and sell it to sick people for 250k or more per dose.
Maya: Went home.
Dr. Suresh: Works for a major pharmaceutical company trying to recreate the serum that gave him and Ando powers. He has had partial success, namely temporary and/or fluctuating powers in test subjects, but he remembers his first attempt to get powers and is taking it slow.
Gabriel (Sylar): Joined the Circus and disappeared.
Angela Petrelli: Sells high-value real estate.
Basically, we would start off in the group therapy session, dealing with our problems, then something will happen. Superhumaniphobes will attack and we will have to uncover a conspiracy of some form.
