It doesn't really matter what you think because it's not your roleplay. Your character is largely OP and the mere fact that being shot kills him does not counteract that.Sorry for the intrusion, I may apply but I'll need to think of a character first!

if you can't give an example of how my character is OP then I question your statement, also as a member of the guild i do have right voice my opinions on a matter.

How about the fact that your character is able to communicate with spirits and fire concentrated lightning from his hands? If you look at the other powers and the sort of powers that have been declined then you will see what is and isn't OP within the confines of the roleplay. Even control of wind was restricted to a degree. Also, toning down powers to match what the original poster wants for his setting does not restrain creativity, if your entire creative flow comes from your superpower then that's more your problem than anyone elses.

I'm going to join in on this, because as you said I'm a also a member of the guild so I have the right to voice my opinions.

First off, you forgot the part where the GM said the Native American thing doesn't fit in with the theme of the roleplay. Way to pay attention to the entire post they gave you.

Second, the way you worded it, saying the thunderbird gave you various powers makes it sound like you can just add stuff all willy nilly in the roleplay whenever you need something new. You can summon lightning whenever you want, which considering I can't have a sharpened wave of air, is overpowered. And you can communicate with it and get its great wisdom, which is also overpowered considering you could learn pretty much whatever you wanted, whenever you wanted.

That enough for you?

I couldn't get to communicate with a regular ghost, what makes you think you'll get to talk to a giant spirit bird.

This power-talk has me thinking, is it possible for our characters powers to improve as time goes on? Like, perhaps that sharpened wind thing of Princess' char isn't possible right now, but it could be done later thanks to training or other plot-reasons?

I actually like the Native American angle, but since the spirit thing doesn't fit in, maybe Patriarch could take a faith sort of approach? Like he believes in the spirit and maybe even hears it, but it's just his mind doing some awesome tricks up there. Of course one might consider the character a nutjob then, but I like the idea. Who doesn't want their character to be a bit of a nutjob, yes?

It's not really something Ive thought of too much but I wouldn't be opposed to characters becoming a bit more powerful later in the rp.

Also I just want to say thanks everyone for trying to explain the situation to Patriarch but it was unnecessary to group up on him like that. Given time I could have handled the situation on my own. Anyway I think we have enough people to warrant me putting the ooc up. That doesn't mean I'm done recruiting but it does me we can start preparing to actually start the game.

Would it be ok to make a non superpowered character who sympathizes with the super people?

Absolutely. I actually think having a character like that would add quite a bit to the rp.

Name: Frank Waters

Appearance: He stands at 5 foot 11.

Age: 31

Gender: Male

Power: Can spot a good cup of coffee from a mile away, none.

Bio:
Frank was born in Yakima, Washington to a police rookie father and a housewife mother. As a young lad he idolized his father and constantly went raved on about how one day he too would become a 'policeman' just like his dear old dad and go about saving the town from whatever imagination filled villain popped into his head at the time of the story. Of course, there were spots in his teen years in which his angst got the best of him and he announced he hated the world and whatnot, but that was all talk.

It turns out the idolization he had of his father affected his later life as he did in fact join the police force after leaving university in which he studied law. He stayed on the force for quite a few years before being offered the position of detective within the force. He accepted with delight and began going through cases as best he could. It was only until a year into his new position that he met a case that plagued him for many years of his life. An arsonist had gone on a short and abruptly ended spree of crime within Frank's precincts jurisdiction without leaving enough evidence to gain a proper lead on the case. Frank took this to heart and began making it his life's goal to find and arrest the arsonist. He tracked him for years while juggling other cases and tasks set to him. The arsonist grew wiser as time went on, he stopped doing crimes as often and started spreading the buildings he lit alight out. The case was driving Frank around the bend he grew angrier and angrier with each day that the arsonist walked free. It was only until the arsonist affected Frank personally that he finally lost it. Frank's father was in the hospital after surgery on his bowels. Frank and his mother were visiting him when the arsonist struck again. This was the biggest case that the arsonist had done yet and now it was endangering Frank and his family. As the building set alight, Frank caught a glimpse of the arsonist just outside the window through the rising smoke. He leaped onto the fire escape and began a chase through the streets of Washington. He didn't think about the people in the hospital and the people he could have saved, just the ones he could prevent having to save in the future. The chase ended up in a secluded alley, a corpse lay in front of Frank and a smoking gun was gripped tightly in his hand. He only realized what he had done after he had done it.

He was stripped of his badge and gun. He had no idea what to do with his life. He spent about a year wallowing in self-pity and wasting his savings on cheap booze and fast food. It was only after his father had visited him that he had an epiphany in the night. He would move to a new city, start a private detective agency, get off the booze and get in shape. It was as if an angel had been sent to him telling him to turn his life around. He did just as he thought. He stopped eating fast food and replaced the liquor with coffee along with spending the last of his savings on buying a building, decorating it and getting all the equipment he needed to start the agency. He has been doing this for a year or so now and is quite content with the money he is making.

Personality: Frank acts as any detective should. He is calm headed and able to think on the spot if need be. That being said, he does have a few qualities not regularly found in detective stereotypes. While a detective may be thought of as a cool, silent badass who takes dames like he takes cigarettes, Frank is quite the opposite. He likes to talk quite often and would rather have one 'dame' than multiple. Along with this, he isn't too fond of smoking to be honest.

i hope that this character's powers are more reasonable

Name: Matt Yorker

Appearance:

Age: 23

Gender: male and proud of it

Power: he can shapeshift into any breed of domesticated dog and gains all of the keen senses that the animal has when he is in the form, but he can't talk while he is transformed.

Bio: Matt was born to a low middle class family in New York City and for as long as he could remember, life was never easy. His parents were almost poor and the neighorhood where he grew up wasn't the nicest especially now that the crazy conflicts between normal people and the metahumans. He thought of himself as normal that was until he was thirteen years old and found that he had superhuman abilities as well. He could shapeshift into a dog of any breed and at first he found this fun, but it also meant that he had to be careful with how he used the power.

When he turned 23, Matt saw that the city was slowly becoming a hellhole and conflicts between the people was escalating, he decided that the time had come to use his talents to help fight against the crime and corruption of the city.

Personality: He is very loyal and proud of who he is as an Irish American. Matt is very proud of his masculinity and isn't afraid to voice his pride. He is courageous, honorable and very smart, as well as formidable. despite his good qualities, he has no qualms with killing criminals and sees no problems with excessive violence as long as it's justified.

Name: Elizabeth Bishop

Age: 25

Gender: Female

Power:
  • EXPLOSION - "The Ultimate Force"
Described by its owner as "The most impractical power in existence", EXPLOSION is pretty much exactly what it sounds like. Using nothing but her concentration, Liz is able to create spontaneous explosions from any part of her body, devastating her enemies if she can get close enough to them. Naturally, she sports an immunity to what negative effects she might experience due to this power, such as burns, bruises or death by shrapnel.

It doesn't need to be explained, as this is an ability that inherently defies logic, but just the fact that she shrugs it off easily can get kind of annoying. She isn't immune to explosions created through other means, but she can use her own explosions as a sort of "Buffer" against incoming attacks, so she's usually fine. A "Michael Bay" tier ability, which trades practicality for sheer awesomeness.

Those with experience or who are sensitive to imminent danger tend to sense how dangerous it is to touch her, just by being close to her. This is an annoying side effect, as it prevents her from unfairly defeating her opponents before they realize she's a threat.

Bio: Elizabeth was born and raised in northern America, and was recruited into a certain criminal organization due to her latent powers and family connections. There, she learned the techniques necessary for her to become a world-class enforcer for the organization's needs. However, she never got a chance to put these abilities into use, as the organization was nearly annihilated by a certain group of "Heroes" around 8 years ago.

Liz, along with the remnants of that organization, moved over to a different city in order to join up with a certain group of self-proclaimed "Villains". However, Liz's comrades were taken in by the police, and now she is stranded in New York with no real connections to the locals.

Personality: Liz is the exact opposite of her ability, personality-wise. Careful, analytical and manipulative, she's the perfect kind of person for her chosen occupation, and she knows it. She's confident and in control, the type of person who gets annoyed when things don't go her way, but doesn't let it show. She can't stand people who go to extremes on the axis of good and evil, and gets along with folks who inhabit the grey area.
