The summer sun blazed over Phoenix, Arizona on a blissful Saturday morning. The Desert Flower Plaza was bustling with activity, each shop filled with people looking to spend a little on the weekend. The plaza itself was a hive of activity, cars and people moving from place to place, taking advantage of the beautiful weather and the lowered prices. A cafe by the name of "Cactus" housed a very important man, a man that was about to meet his end. Merlin leaned against the palm tree nonchalantly, eyes locked on the man. He knew how dangerous he was and he knew that the coming battle would tear this place apart. He looked toward a young man tending a flower bed, seemingly a worker for the Plaza owners. The young man caught his eye and nodded, he was ready. He looked to his left and saw a man sitting on a bike, Merlin sent a pulse to his mind, alerting him of what was to come. He didn't bother looking for the girl. He knew he wouldn't find her The plan was for him to send a strong shock into the target's brain, stunning him. Then the two elemental wizards would throw all that they had at him, while the girl came out of nowhere with a power attack. Of course Merlin knew that wouldn't be enough and many civilians would likely be killed. But they were expendable. Merlin concentrated on the target, channeling massive amounts of energy. He threw a psychic pulse at him, he immediately saw him convulse and slam his head on the window, he sent out a psychic signal to the other to attack. It had begun.

Spero gave the affirmative, finally ready to get on another mission. Absently, before the order to attack came, he wondered why he was so unbothered by the thought of killing. It wasn't really that he enjoyed it or anything- he just didn't feel very much when they died. Maybe it was because one less person increases his chance of survival? He didn't know- he didn't care. Truly. So when Merlin gave the go-ahead, and launched the attack, he yanked a flower up, spun around, and threw it at the target, yelling, completely and entirely on impulse, "Flower power!" The next moment, he launched a bolt of electricity, what was really lightning, which, of course, missed. The bolt boomed, sending a deafening wave of sound thundering through the plaza, forcing people to scream and cower and run away like the little insignificants they were. His bolt had both melted and shattered the glass; where he hit, melted, everywhere else, cracked and shattered. He fired two or three more bolts before feeling his power begin to waver, and he ran to take cover and regenerate his mana.

Ah, summer. It was a weekend, and so rush hour was noticeably absent from the streets. With Top 50 on iTunes Radio and a half-drunk Starbucks espresso in a broken cupholder, Donnie took his time weaving through the dozy early morning life of Phoenix, Arizona. Along the way he caught a mysterious old man with a bowler slipping through causal morning bustle, a young man carrying a box of gardening tools seemingly on the way to work, and glimpses of a feminine shape in the alleyway shadows. They received virtually no attention from the populace at all. At last, he reached the Plaza. It didn't differ much from any of the other malls in town. He stopped dead in the shade of a palm tree opposite of an old man looking like he was taking a brief rest. He also saw a gardener innocently working with a few daisies and carnations directly front of the Cactus Cafe, where it looked like a man in a business suit was having a quick coffee. The girl was nowhere to be found, and he didn't particularly care for her at the moment. They never talked, either way. Then, like anybody else would have done, old man with a flick of the wrist smashed business man against the all-glass front of the Cactus Cafe. Then, like any other gardener would do, flower man suddenly kept up from his work and violently bombarded business man with possibly fatal electric bolts. Now, like any other random biker would do, Donald Tavish McCunnell threw his bike to the side, and with an energetic movement of the hands, sent a shockwave swiftly moving towards the Cafe and smothered business man in an enormous pile of flagstone and earth about eight feet tall. He then quickly disappeared into the garden shrubbery and took cover not too far from where flower man was.

The two had gone according to plan, but the girl was nowhere to be seen. Merlin scowled and walked toward the cafe, sensing a growing anger in the dust. Civilians screamed and ran in all directions, but he didn't care. They were about to scream a whole lot more. The target emerged from the cafe, clothes tattered and ripped, the whole side of his face covered in blood. He locked eyes with Merlin and growled. The air around him flamed up as he sent a blast of fire barreling towards Merlin. Merlin raised his hand and braced himself as the projectile smashed against his invisible shield. He sent a pulse to the other two to notify them he's distracted and they should attack. The heat from the spell made his skin red, but he held his ground.

Spero took a deep breath. Thankfully, the unknown target did not seem inclined to attack him. He took another deep breath, and then another. He was tingling, all over, and it brought back unpleasant memories when he first gained his power- when he would accidentally begin electrocuting himself, unable to stop or control it. He had worked on it and worked on it, forcing himself into seclusion, and now that he was actually out on the field, he worried he might lose control of it again. But he forced his doubts down, swallowing his fears, and quickly wiped the beginning of a tear. None of that- he might hurt himself with that big of water. He wiped it on his pants, and then stood up, without letting himself think about it. He summoned another two bolts of electricity, crackling and whipping up and down his arms, darting to nearby metallic objects and back, and then he let a path of ions gather in a line towards his target, and let loose his power. Electricity darted through the path, shooting down it too fast to be seen, and two more rolling booms of thunder shook the area. His two best strikes yet- the thunderclap shattered the nearest glass, letting the thunder be followed by a smash-and-crack, and then the musical tinkling of glass, as the two bolts darted to the target. It didn't matter if he had reflexes, if he knew what was coming. Lightning wasn't a bullet- it constantly seeked to enter and go through something, to find something that it could squeeze into and be absorbed. Even if the bolt went right by, it would still adjust, finding the wetness of our bodies, the such complex chemical makeups, so appetizing, so appealing, and the lightning would hit anyways. It was just the question of- How strong was he? Could he take it? He hoped not- this might be over quickly if he wasn't strong enough, and might drag on endlessly so if he was.
