Introduction
First, welcome to Wanderer's Respite. My name is Sessamaru (or Sess for those of you who hate typing long names) and I'm a veteran Role Player. I've been Role Playing for eleven years (I'm 23 years old, and I honestly do not care if I gave my age away) and I'm quite proud of it. Though I GM'd (Game Mastered) many RPs, I have grown tired of being constricted to a single story with so few people and always watching it die away. So! I figured I would push my luck here. My goal for this RP is to bring back the olden days of Role Playing before I ever knew of forums or stories and etc. This Role Play is meant to bring back nostalgia, though I do regret that this is not a chat... but, I made this to compensate for it. This RP is entirely Sandbox, with no Game Master to guide the players. Though I am technically the Game Master (or Dungeon Master, or whatever you call people in this kind of position), I will not be creating stories or anything. I am simply going to play along and only enforce the rules I have created if I need to; otherwise, I am simply another player. The idea here is to create. Though the tavern is the main setting, it is what happens outside of the tavern that will be the most interesting. We play by ear, we all create a setting in the outside world, and we all have fun. Want to be the Big Bad? Go ahead! You can create a story that can involve everyone, and those who do not want to participate can simply do their own thing. It's our world! Not just mine, not just yours, but everyones! Want fantasy stuff? Go for it. Want sweet magical science? Shoot. Want a modern influence? Have fun. Anything and everything goes so long as it does not infringe upon the rules that have been put forth. As I said before: this is entirely a Build Your Own Sandbox ("BYOS") RP. Simply follow the rules, don't force my hand, and have fun! I'm looking forward to RPing with you folks, and not as a GM but as another player! ^^
Wanderer's Respite
Wanderer's Respite is a hub for various people who travel the world. They come from other nations, continents, and even worlds. The world, itself, is full of many races and cultures, with varying traditions and sciences. The powerful, the wealthy, and even commoners come to Wanderer's Respite, as if drawn to it by a thread. Swordsmen, gunslingers, dancers, doctors, and even priests stop by to have a drink, a quick conversation, and perhaps a rest. Sorcerers find it to be the perfect place to start a reputation, to hear stories and to speak of tales of their own. In this world, Wanderer's Respite is perhaps the only true safe haven, though in its shadows may reside a darkness just waiting for the opportunity to present itself in all its glory. Heroes and villains are said to be born here, the halls full of unwritten stories just waiting to be told, to be scribed.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It is a magical tavern that is quite small on the outside, but larger on the inside. The Tavern has many, many rooms and doorways, with infinite food and infinite supplies. It is the half-way house for wanderers seeking a home or a simple sojourn. Its purpose is unknown, but it is a place to heal and to avoid death's creeping clutches. Time does not exist within the tavern, thus sleep is not needed (though it could be desired). When first entered, it is described as a Valhalla, archaic and beautiful. Further in, it gradually shows a certain "youth" to its depths, some rooms being more modern and so on. Here, patrons shall encounter other folk whose fates may be entwined...
Da Rules!
1) No Godmoding (also known as "Godmodding") No one should be omnipotent, omniscient, and/or omnipresent. That steals the fun from everyone else and could easily get out of hand, bringing forth a lot of frustration. You can always be hurt, you can always be vulnerable, and you can always feel ignorant. This is reality, and even fictional characters share that attribute with those of us who are not made up. The point is to always remember that you have limitations. Without limitations, we can never reach our potential. Those limitations tell us that we must overcome it in order to reach the next level of our own strength. Please abide by this. 2) No Autoing Known to be quite a hassle, autoing is where a player controls another person's character, not allowing them to react to anything. This kind of goes hand-in-hand with Godmoding, and it's not fair. Though I do agree that everyone needs to get hit every once in a while, I also believe that everyone has the right to choose their own actions and reactions. You are NOT the other player's character, so hands off. It is disrespectful and unfair. Abide by this or be booted. 3) No Player Killing NEVER EVER kill another person's character without their permission. Much like Godmoding and Autoing, it is unfair and disrespectful. Killing another player's character is like butchering another person's child right in front of them. It is heart wrenching to the point that it's painful, and can give birth to rage and frustration. Though everyone must die at some point, it is the choice of the other player whether or not to kill their own character. Always ask permission and notify me about it. Otherwise, it will be considered a great transgression and booting will be imminent. 4) Only one character per player (New characters can be created if a previous character dies) 4.1) Any character can be used so long as they do not infringe upon the rules! Want a guy who uses guns? I'm fine with that. Want a sorcerer who can use a sword? Cool. Want a mecha-tank with human emotions and a rocket launcher for a hand? Sweet. Please, don't hesitate to use your imagination! This world is full of surprises and the chance to see a colorful set of characters will be greatly appreciated! :D 5) Rule of Time: In Combat vs Out of Combat Time flows differently through text. We do not know how much time has passed when we post and people think being unconscious for a couple of posts equates to four hours. Well, truth be told, it is difficult to measure time. To simplify it for you, we will divide this rule into two parts: In Combat and Out of Combat. First, the easy part-- Out of Combat posting. Out of Combat flows differently, for it is much more random and free flowing than In Combat. Simply put, time flows faster, much faster, out of combat. There are more actions and expressions that can be displayed and is more or less up to the player's discretion. However, time also flows differently in and out of Wanderer's Respite. In the tavern, time practically stands still while time on the outside flows at "normal" pace. The world outside of the tavern works much like ours, where even though time flows at the same pace, it is not the same time everywhere (we're 14 hours behind Japan (if you live in Indiana), for example). So, players have freedom of time in their own posts out of combat. In combat, however, time flows much more slowly. In and outside of the tavern, time flows slowly to both the onlookers and the participants (much more so for the 2+ people fighting). This is because of every action taken, the reaction, and so on; approximately, each round for combat is six seconds long. So, ten rounds (meaning twenty posts) is an accumulated minute of combat. Hopefully this will clear up combat and free roam posts. Any questions? Feel free to ask. 6) Romance is allowed, but not explicit content (anything beyond kissing and other "harmless" displays of affection is not allowed (i.e. erotica)) 7) Blood is allowed, gore is not. It's best to keep this somewhat "kid" friendly. 8) This is a "Build-Your-Own" RP. It's as sandbox as it can get and anyone (everyone) can make a story! I'll also be a player and the only thing I will do as the maker of it is to enforce the rules! If anyone wants to make a storyline of some sort, feel free! It'll be loads of fun! 9) Please write at least one paragraph! (3-5 complete sentences) 10) Have fun! That's the entire point of this RP is to have fun. If no one is having fun, then we'll all just have to fix it.
